Margueritte Louise "Margo" Meriweather, 92, of Pierre, formerly of Miller, died Wednesday, July 17 at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre.

Margo's life will be celebrated with visitation Sunday July 21st, 2013 from 3-5 pm at Rembold Funeral Home in St Lawrence, SD. Her funeral will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Miller SD at 9:30 am on Monday, July 22nd, 2013 with Pastor Sarah Goldammer from Pierre Lutheran Memorial Church presiding. Burial will follow at the G.A.R. Cemetery of Miller.

Margueritte Louise "Margo" Dittman was born December 17, 1920 in Alta Vista, KS to Ben and Pauline (Kietzman) Dittman. Margo graduated from Alta Vista High School in 1938 and from Parkview Nursing School in Manhattan, KS in 1942. While earning her degree, she met the love of her life, Norman Rockwell Meriweather, who was washing dishes at the Parkview Hospital, trying to earn his way through college.

They were married in Manhattan, KS on June 5, 1943. Shortly after, military life took them to Ft. Benning, GA. Daughters Connie and Kay joined the family. Norm and Margo moved frequently the first few years of their marriage and finally arriving back in Manhattan where Norm finished vet school. Margo helped finance his education by using her nursing skills. In 1955, the couple made Miller their permanent home. Margo occasionally worked at Hand County Memorial Hospital.

Most of Margo's time was spent with church activities including singing in the choir for decades. Gardening, fishing, hunting, sewing and quilting at the church, playing pitch, taking care of elderly relatives and socializing with friends kept Margo busy. Life was altered when a third daughter, Marcia, joined the family and helped keep the Meriweather's young at heart. Margo loved trips to Canada each summer. She enjoyed being an excellent homemaker and loving Mom and Grandmother. In June of 2011, Norm passed away shortly after he and Margo celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. Margo moved to Pierre, SD residing at Kelly's II Assisted Living. She died suddenly on July 17, 2013 at Avera St Mary's in Pierre, SD.

Preceding Margueritte in death were her sister Catherine, her brother Charles, her parents, her beloved Norman, and many aunts, uncles and in-laws.

Memories of Margo will be treasured by Connie Lou (Gary) Palmer of Pierre, SD, Kay (Kenneth) Danielson of Billings, MT and Marcia Lynn (Tim) Potts of Sturgis, SD ; 7 grandchildren, Gina Lynn (David) Adrian of White River, SD, Dr. Bradley Lane (Dana) Palmer of Sioux Falls, SD, Dr. Kirk Damien (Molly) Danielson of Olympia, WA, Korey Dean (Teresa) Danielson of Helena, MT, Kari Dee (Jason) LaRue of Colorado Springs, CO, Trevor Rockwell (Amber Uptagraft) Potts of Sturgis, SD and Tera Lynn (Mike) Bredeson of Brookings, SD; ten great grandchildren; her brother Robert, her sister-in-law Alice, several nieces and nephews and many very special friends.

To honor Margo's life, there is a memorial established to join Norm's Vet Medicine Scholarship. Memorials may be mailed to Margo Meriweather Memorial Fund, PO Box 7217, Pierre, SD 57501.
