My name is Dorie Anita Merrill Erickson. William Littlefield Merril Jr was my paternal grandfather and married to Maude Matilda Brown, mother of my Dad their only living child, Milo Albion Merrill. His brother Billy Merrril was born the year before my Dad and died in infancy. William Littlefield Sr was married to Sarah Marie Bickford. He was born Sept 28, 1837 at Bloomfeild, Somerset County Maine. Died age 80 Dec 3, 1917, Anoka, Anoka County Minnesota. Lots of detail about our Merrill lineage and their siblings. You may e-mail me Drercksn@aol.com. Shannon Henderson who wrote you earlier is my sister's granddaughter.

I am wanting to trace the Littlefield name. He was Jr and his father was Sr, so that could have been a family name a generation or two back. Do you have any info concerning the Littlefield connection to the Merrills? I have a family genealogy book that traces our Merril lineage to Thomas Merrill b. 1444 Wherstead, Suffolk, England. The story of the De Merels feeling to England in 1552 from the Huegenot Inquistition in France is unproven. A handwritten note without author is where that story arose.

I'm trying to reunite her photo with her family. Another photo has stamped on it "Bryan Studio". She looks very distinctive due to a cute cleft in her chin. Anyone know of her?

Esther Tyler, wife of Asa Hoadley could she be Esther Taylor?

According to the HOADLEY genealogy (1894) the wife of Asa Hoadley (b. 1762 d. 1834) m. 7 April 1785 Esther Tyler at Waterbury, CT. The marriage record says that she is Esther Tyler d. of Abraham Tyler. Esther was b. 1761 and died 2 May 1837 at Waterbury. I haven’t been able to find a record of her birth that identifies her parents.

Could her last name be TAYLOR?
Son Artemas HOADLEY (1791-1830) m. Alma FRISBIE (1798-1880) their daughter Eunice Almira HOADLEY (1822-1894) m. Nathan F. MERRILL (1823-1909). They had a daughter, Ellen TAYLOR MERRILL, my great grandmother. My grandparents named their second daughter Ellen TAYLOR.
I haven’t been able to figure out where the TAYLOR came from, the only thing that makes sense is that it’s a family name. I know that there were TYLERs and TAYLORs in the New Haven, Connecticut area for many years. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks.

mystery man Merrill Teague

We are trying to identify a man my mother talked about her entire life. She always referred to him as "cousin Merrill Teague" whenever she mentioned him.

The only thing we know is that he came from Anson, Texas, or at least lived there; he would have been born sometime around 1900-1915; he was still alive at the end of 1971; and that he was related to family who lived in Mills and Hamilton Counties, Texas.

He was most likely related to the Merrill family, judging by his name. We have talked with several Teague cousins - no one can identify him.

Is there anyone who might be able to help us finally get this mystery solved? I appreciate any help. Thank you.

Patricia Quinn Meigs patty719@msn.com

Iowa Merrills

Am seeking info on Merrill or Flood families of Keg Creek, Pottawotamie Co. Iowa, particularly on John and Louisa (Vandebogart) Merrill and their children. A daughter, Charlotte (or Lottie) married my grandfather, Patrick Flood, and passed away in Saint Louis, MO, in 1928. As a child, I had been to a farm in this area near Council Bluffs, but have no real memories. Would like to reacquaint myself and plan a spring journey to that area for research.

Dear Ms. Sowdon,

I am also looking for verification of this. The only evidence that I can come up with is that on p. 444 of "A Merrill Memorial", it lists a "Sarah Bixley", born on 20 May, 1753. In "Royal Families, volume 1, Governor Thomas Dudley", p. 230, it shows Sarah Bixby, born 20 May, 1753, daughter of Benjamin Bixby. This is the only evidence I have. If you have collected anything since your original posting of your question, I'd be very interested.

Lilburn Merrill, MD, wrote a book "Winning the Boy" about 1908 which you can read about online, it did rather well. By 1912-19 at least he was in Seattle where he was the Diagnostician for the Seattle Juvenile Court. He wrote about eugenics, including feeblemindedness, as intellectual disability was then called. It is my interest, not genealogical in nature.

Merrills of Wentworth, New Hampshire area; Mary E. Merrill & Fayette Columbia Kezer

I have updated info on my old post but still no answers. This is one of the major brick walls in my research.

Mary E. Merrill supposedly married Fayette Columbia Kezer (Keyser, Keezer) in New Hampshire sometime around or before 1845. She was his first wife, second being Amanda M. Eaton and third being Maria Page. Mary E. Merrill was born abt 1816 in New Hampshire and died 7 May 1852 in Wentworth, New Hampshire. Her husband Fayette was born 29 Aug 1812 in Wentworth, died 21 Sep 1891 in Rochester, Vermont. They are both buried in Village Cemetery in Wentworth.

They had 2 daughters, Abbie (Abigail) Elizabeth (15 Nov 1845-14 Mar 1926)and Hannah (abt 1847-16 Nov 1863). Abbie married Charles Jesse Eastman (10 Sep 1840-31 Aug 1874). Abbie next married Rev. Alvin WIlbur Ford (10 Mar 1835-5 Dec 1915).

Any leads on what Merrill lines were living in the Wentworth, New Hampshire area at the time would be wonderful.
Katie L. Merrill/Piper

Katie L. Merrill was born in Woodstock, New Hampshire some time between 1881 and 1883. Biological parents are unknown but, I'm searching for their names.

According to a book: New Hampshire Name Changes, 1768-1923 written by Richard P. Roberts on page 140

Katie L. Merrill, name changed to Katie L. Piper, in Plymouth, Grafton County, New Hampshire between June 1881-June 1883.

Any further information on the Biological parents would be greatly appreciated. Her adopted parents were: James & Melissa (Sawyer) Piper of Plymouth, New Hampshire. Katie married Howard Langill in Plymouth, NH on 20 May 1901. She left him due to cruelty and moved to Littleton, NH where she divorced him on 31 Jan. 1923. At this point I lost track of her.

In the 1880 US Census Records I found a Louisa Merrill residing in Woodstock, NH that was 33 years of age and could be a possible match to be her mother who gave Katie up for adoption to the Pipers.

Any further information would be greatly appreciated.

Respectfully Yours,
Angie

I have seen a posting by Howard and Jean Merrill online. I want it known that there were at least three Kate Merrill's born in New Hampshire that I can find...about the time my Kate Merrill was born. Yes, I am quite sure my Kate Merrill was born in the Woodstock, New Hampshire area. The one born in Pittsburg is NOT our Kate Merrill as she did not marry Howard Langill...which our Kate Merrill did. Another Kate Merrill was born in Laconia, NH and she is NOT the Kate Merrill I search for as she would be too old to be the correct one.
I would leave this message on Howard and Jean Merrills site but can not find a place to write them. It is my hope that this will come to their attencion and they will correct what they have stated.
Respectfully Yours,
Angie

Look up needed for Merrill in Woodstock, New Hampshire

I am searching for the birth date and parents of Kattie L. Merrill who claims to have been born in Woodstock, Grafton County, New Hampshire. According to the marriage record I found in Plymouth, New Hampshire in 1901, she would have been born about 1882 or 1883 in Woodstock, NH. She claims to have been 19 years old when she married. No parents names are given.

In searching Census Records I found one person that could have been her mother living in Woodstock, NH. One Louise Merrill was 33 years old in 1880. She was living with Morrill Smith age 63 and had three children: Albert Merrill age 13, Lizzie Merrill age 12 and Ninah Merrill age 4.

Any help in finding the biological parents of Kattie L. Merrill would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance.

Respectfully Yours,
Angie

I, too, have been stuck on James Lancaster Merrill as have 2 other people I know. My grandfather was Charles J. Merrill, my great grandfather was Rodney T. Merrill, son of James Lancaster Merrill. I have come across 3 possible birth years (1816, 1825, & 1826) though I'm inclined to believe he was probably born in 1825 even though is gravestone says 1816. Have you made any more progress on James L. Merrill? I'm just basically starting out. What is your line from James L.?
Regards,
Paul Merrill
Hello Darren

Thanks for your message. It was good to hear from you. No I have not found out any more about George but I do have quite an extensive database of his descendents.

Do you have a tree on Ancestry? If so could you please send me an invite - I will of course be happy to give you access to mine if you let me have your email address.

That way we can work exactly how we are related.

I will be looking forward to hearing from you again

Best wishes

Alison Smith nee Milton

miltonalison@aol.com

Hello,

I am also a Merrill descendent from Nathaniel 1601 son Daniel. The information I have as Daniel married Sarah Clough and the only son I have listed is Moses of who I am decended from.

I recently did research for a lady who's Charles Atwood Merrill I found to be related to back to Nathaniel son John. I believe I have Merrill's in Springfield, MA where I am so I have to search for them.

Sandy Merrill Prairie
