The cost is $99.00 plus $5.00 postage. I wouldn't expect your brother to bear this cost, esp if he just lost his job.
He, or another cousin could still take the test and have it billed to a 3rd party such as you.
This is an opportunity to do something for Our Family that will last far beyond a lifetime. It will last forever!

What is the cost to the person having the DNA testing done? I thought those test were expensive?! My maiden name is spelled Mesker. I have one brother. But, I don't know if he would want to be tested. I will ask him. But, I'm pretty sure that if it costs him anything, he will not be able to have it done, because he's recently lost his job and doesn't have any income. Please let me know what you can on this. Maybe I can think of someone else in the family (like a cousin) that would be willing to do the test. I look forward to hearing from you again soon. Joanna

Hello Ann!
I have contacted you before; but, it's been a long time back. I would like any info on any of the Mesker line that you could share with me. I greatly appreciate it!! My grandfather was Noah Mesker. Did you ever hear that any of them were from Eastern Ky.? My oldest sister that passed away last year had it wrote down in a Bible of hers (which I got after she passed away & didn't know the contents, so I didn't get to ask her about it) had it wrote down that Noah was from Hazard, Ky. Are there any pictures that you could share with me? I would greatly appreciate any help that you could give to me. Where do the Mesker's originate from? Where did they come from before Barren Co., Ky.? Thanks for your help!! Have a great weekend!!
Joanna> jowithnature@hotmail.com

Hi Erica. Where are you from? I'm from the Cleveland, Ohio area and have traced my Meskers back to the 1840's here in Cleveland. Some moved to other states, so you never know. Give us a little more info such as your parent's, grandparent's names etc.

I found a Herman Mesker in the 1880 Minnesota Census. You can find it here.

http://www.us-census.org/pub-ftp/mn/sibley/1880/ed105-pg299b...

Also found a Margret Mesker in the same census which you can find here.

http://www.us-census.org/pub-ftp/mn/sibley/1880/ed105-pg308d...

Herman has a daughter, Anna, that was born in Ohio and also Margret (perhaps a daughter of Herman) was born in Ohio. Perhaps there is a link with my Meskers.

Hi Jane,
While looking through some information I had saved some time ago, I ran across this and remembered your inquiry. I don't believe he's connected to my Meskers, although you never know because some of my ancestors were allegedly born in Hanover and settled in Cleveland, Ohio.

FROM:
http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/mn/renville/bios/doctor...

GEORGE H. MESKER, M. D., a resident physician of Olivia, Minnesota, was born in Kelso township, Sibley county, Minnesota, July 10, 1873, son of Herman and Wilhelmina (Buesing) Mesker, natives respectively of Hanover and
Baden, Germany. Herman Mesker was brought to America by his parents as an infant. Wilhelmina Buesing came with her parents at the age of eighteen.
Both families located in Ohio where the young people grew to manhood and womanhood and married. In 1858 they came to Minnesota, driving through Iowa to Sibley county by team and located a piece of wild land where they built a log cabin and lived the rest of their days. Herman Mesker died at the age of seventy-eight and his wife at the age of forty-seven. They had nine children, George H. being the youngest. He attended the district school and the Henderson High school. Then he taught school in his home township a year
In 1896 he graduated from the College of Medicine and Surgery, University of Minnesota. After a year spent as a hospital interne, he came to Oliva in 1897, opened an office, and has since continued in practice.

Dr. Mesker has held office as a council member, is on the school board and is a member of the Olivia Lodge No. 220, A. F. & A. M. He was united in marriage to Ella Dressel, born in St. Paul, daughter of early pioneers of the state who came from Germany. Two children, Douglas and Clifford, have
been born to Dr. and Mrs. Mesker.
I'm searching for the parents of Theodore, Elizabeth, Henry, John Bernard and Mary Mesker. The children were born in Hannover and immigrated to the US in the 1830s. They may have first lived in Ohio. They moved to Evansville, Indiana in the mid to late 1830s. The local cemetery has a Heinrich Mesker buried with the family, but I am unable to make the connection between Heinrich and the children names listed above. I have extensive research on the descendants of Theodore Mesker, his sister Mary and his brother Henry. Please email me at ceherrmann@aol.com if you have more information on the Mesker family. Thanks
