I'm not sure if this is the same family as we spell it mesny. William Mesny originated in the channel islands and went to shanghai. He became a general in the imperial army of china. Check out these two websites http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Mesny and my family website which is done by my dad, note it may be under construction www.ontariopioneers.com

An update to my earlier enquiry in 2002. William Michael Locke Mesney (1832 - 1884) was the husband of Margaret Stephens. Does anyone have any information on him? Thanks.

Anyone know of a Mesney/Stephens marriage perhaps about 1855/1860? The Mesney was said to be a Channel Island sea captain who was killed in an affray in a Chinese harbour. Margaret Stephens died on 2 July 1901 in New York.

Are you still researching your family tree as I realise your message was posted way back in Jan 2003? You and my husband Richard are cousins as your father Claude was brother to Violet May, my husbands Mum. I have been doing a lot of extensive research and have found lots of information on the Mesneys going way back to the end of the 18th century. Fascinating family!!! I saw your messages to and from Marion Walsh who,I know is another cousin, and is(was) daughter of Stella, sister to Violet & Claude.Violet was a good deal older than your Dad as she was born in 1908.Sadly, she died at the young age of 44 in 1953 when my husband was 14 years old.
Would be good to hear from you!

Are you still looking for relatives of William Mesney and Rosa Lily King? I am currently researching the Mesney family tree on behalf of my husband Richard whose mother was Violet May Mesney, born 1908,died in March 1953. She was one of William and Rosa's daughters and so they were my husbands grandparents.
I appreciate that you posted your message a long time ago but we would be really pleased if you wanted to get in touch.
