In 1930, Charles Glantz worked for the Katz Furniture Co. in Bridgeport and lived with Benjamin Messier and family; wife Eva, children Isaac(12) and Stella (10). I wonder if Isaac and Stella are still alive? Charles d. in 1937, while eating breakfast at a dinner. I found an Eva Messier who d. 1995 in Swansea, Bristol, MA. Charles' dad emigrated from Sweden in 1881. I am trying to get a full picture of Charle's life in Bridgeport, after he left Meriden, CT. Thanks....
Deb

Hi Raymond,
I have been in contact with you before as you may recall. I think you tried to attach an email of the Messier tree to me but it wouldn't open up. Hope all has been well with you. One day, I plan to visit Varennes where my Messier lived before migrating to America. I did visit Au Sable Forks in 2001 on one of my trips. For your information, my mother - Lucille Margaret (Messier)Beaudry passed away on 16th March 2009 and I flew over for the funeral. Perhaps one day on one of my trips, I may get over to meet you in person. I visted with Rita Denny in Marquette about 12 years ago but haven't heard from her in quite some time. I believe her husband passed away awhile ago as well.
William

Hi Betty,
Just happened to reread your posting and worried that I never replied and thanked you for providing all the detail for me. You have really done a fabulous research job as all the detail listed under number 2 for Flavie is correct including the misspellings in the census and the death dates in Marquette. I am descended from one of their children and in fact the name Timothy has been handed down through the generations (my grandfather's first name, my middle name and my eldest son's first name).
Thank you again so very much.
William

I have read most of the threads and do not know how I fit into this family, but I am pretty sure I do. My great grandmother was Alice (Messier) Rappaneau. Daughter of Adelard Messier (Born Nov 1969 Canada) and Rosanna Houle. Alice was born in Thompson CT July 7th, 1897. Her sister Rose was also born in Thompson CT. The other 6 syblings were born in MA. Adelard is the son of Nazaire Messier & Adeline Benoit. (I have the marriage record in Canada for Nazaire & Adeline)If anyone can help me fill in the remaining holes, I would appreciate the help.

Looking for Gerard Louis Messier Info

I don't know much about my family tree and would like to know more. My father is Gerard Messier and lives in Texas. I have a sister Sherry Messier and a brother Troy Messier. Also a couple of nieces, Angel Payton Messier and Aspin Messier. All of whom live in Texas as far as I know. I do not know my grandparents or even if they are alive. I believe though that he was on the East coast for a long time and may have originate here (CT, MA area). I lived in CT for a very long time and I read some other posts that had info on Messier's from the Windham County area which is where I'm from. If it helps any, I'm just about to turn 32y; Sherry is 40y; and I think Gerard (a.k.a Jerry) is in his late 60's or early 70's. Last I knew, Gerard lives in Abilene, TX. If you have any information, email me (boom645@comcast.net) and let me know. Or if you can point me in the right direction. Thank you, Brie
My father was Nelson Joseph Machie. Ozelia Mary (Perkins) Machie is my great grandmother. Do you have that connection also? Would love to trade information with you.
Jean-Marie,

I saw your post on rootsweb from 2003 concerning Mitchell Messier. My name is Mark Nunamaker and my line is below:

Mitchell Messier and Flora Longe
Joseph Messier and Elizabeth 'Libbie' Lambert/ Greenwood
Cecelia Messier and Edward Byrd
Nancy Byrd and George Nunamaker
Mark Nunamaker

I have quite a bit of information on Joseph Messier's family I think, though I am always open to new information. I have no information on Flora Longe other than her name, though. I was curious if you may have any or on the Dubois, etc. I am rather new at all of this, but I am meeting new cousins quite often lately. Also, I am curious what your line is. I look forward to your response and thank you for posting so I could find your information.

Mark C. Nunamaker
Mr/Ms Rabideau (I'm guessing),

Thank you very much for this posting. You do have my Flavie correctly placed. Whilst I had her parents as Joseph and M-Louise Longtin Gibeau from other family members, I did not know that she had 10 siblings and likewise I had no exact birth/bapt date. Her grave marker just had 1820 for birth year (which would be incorrect). I do have her parents marriage date, however as 14 Feb 1821 so that must make Flavie the eldest?

It is quite interesting that my gt grandfather John (King) Messier one of Timothy and Flavie's sons married a Bissonette also from St Philippe, Laprairie in 1880.

Thank you again for taking the time to write to me. If you have the time, I would appreciate knowing the siblings for Flavie. I now (since 1981) live in Australia and would really like to visit Laprairie and Varennes just to see the locations where many of my family lived.

By the way, I have wondered since living here if Flavie was related in anyway to the Fr Canadian exiles who were sent to Sydney following 1838 (two or three were Longtin/Longtines). I have read the two journals by two other exiles whilst here (they've been reprinted) and there is now a monument to them all located on the shore of Canada Bay on the Parramatta River.

Sincerely,
Wm Hempel

I am searching for information concerning the parents and family origins of Elodie Messier and Philias Gamache. They were living in Eastman Village, Brome, Quebec, Canada during the 1901 census. Philias Gamache was listed as being born on July 24, 1857. Elodie ( Messier ) Gamache was listed as being born on Dec. 21, 1861. They were in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada to have son, Joseph George Gamache, baptized there on Nov. 7, 1898. Philias Gamache was born July 18, 1857, according to other sources. He died Oct. 13, 1931. He married Elodie Messier in ca. 1885. Philias and Elodie were in Manchester, N.H. by the 1910 census.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Jean Mayo

Hi,
I've been searching the Quebec Records online at Ancestry and have found the birth of Flavie Gibeau.

Marie Flavie Gibeau b & btzd 31 May 1822 St Philippe, Qc Godparents: Charles … and Catherine Longtin (Image 148, Birth Record 99, Year 1822: Quebec Records 1819-1823 St Phillipe, Laprairie, Qc : Ancestry.com)

Marie Flavie Gibeau was the daughter of Joseph Gibeau and Marie Louise Longuetain / Longtin.

I can give you Joseph Gibeau's ancestry back to Gabriel Gibeau in the 1600's. I also have the baptisms of 10 of Flavie's siblings.

Messier in Brunswick, ME

I'd like to make only one connection for now. My ancestor, Jean-Baptists Messier, b. ca. 1813 in Varennes, married Sophie Lamoureau (b. ca. 1820) in Varennes in 1842; came to the U.S. just before turn of 20th C., and had my gr-grandmother, Sophie Messier, among others, b. in Roxton Falls, Que., in 1844. They settled in Brunswick, Maine. I have just about everything except Jean-Baptiste's birth confirmation.

Then, up pops Francois/Francis Xavier Messier, b. ca. 1867 in St. Hyacinthe and married to someone named Arthelia or Etheline (the census takers couldn't figure it out) who was from Roxton Falls, and they had 12 children in Brunswick, Maine. There has to be a connection; brothers or cousins --but I haven't been able to find it yet. Does anyone have these couples in your database?

Re: Messier,Mecier,Mercier from Quebec,Canada

In response to your old query, I don't think I can help you, but I do know that at least 2 Messiers came to Brunswick, Maine in the late 19th century. My maternal gr-grandmother, Sophie Lamoureau, m. Jean-Baptiste Messier (b. 1813) and in looking through Brunswick newspapers I found a Francis Xavier Messier (no wife's name) who had 12 children in Brunswick. The article, about their 50th wedding anniversary in 1949, said he was b. in St. Hyacinth. I'm not sure yet of the connection between F. X. and my gr-grandfather, but they must have been brothers or at least cousins. Both had connections to Roxton Falls, Quebec. Do you have any more information than you had when you wrote your query? I'd love to share.
