My 5th ggrandmother was Polly Metcalf daughter of Rev. Jacob Metcalf and Elizabeth " Betsy " Buckner. I'm trying to make our connection with the Cherokees. I've received Polly's Eastern Cherokee application. She states she has Cherokee through Keziah Vann. She writes Betsy Bunker was Vann or as she spelled it Vain. She also wrote Betsy's parents were Neddy or Veddy Bunker, can't quite make it out, and Lucy Banks of Ransom. Ransom is a township in Columbia County, NC. And Polly was Sam Oxford's daughter. She says Polly Oxford Metcalf was a full blood Cherokee, and that Polly was related to Keziah Vann. Every one seems to have Betsy's parents listed as John Riley BUCKER and Lucretia Tatum. Polly was 73 at the time could she be confused....She also writes OLD JIMMIE Metcalf - James Metcalf lived to be 108 years old. My family line also seems to connect to Chief King Haigler of the Cawtaba Tribe. Is any one as confused as I am ?
