Ok all you Cherokee Metcalfs. It is time to get this info together. We have been working on this way too long.
I am the great great great granddaughter of John Metcalf born in 1820 in NC. He married Mahala Hensley born in TN in 1826. Their children are William, Joseph, James Riley, Alan, Elizabeth, Selina Jane, Sarah, and Amanda. William and James Riley lived in what is now known as Metcalf Bottoms in the Smokey Mountains. Will had a store there. James Riley married Susie Watson. Will married Sarah Jane Ward.
I know that this line ties into a lot of lines. Probably Absolum's line, but not sure. My mother's grandfather always told her his father James Riley was full blood Cherokee. AND boy did her grandfather look Indian, so does she. Have heard stories from other relatives that their is Indian or also known as black dutch, black irish is our history. There has got to be someone out there who can tie this together. I am going to the mountains next weekend to do some research and visit some grave sites at the NC/TN border. If anyone has any suggestions please contact me.
