Peter Metcalfe of Glanford Brigg, Lincoln, England had a son James Metcalf, merchant of Pennsylvania. James died in Barbados, leaving a wife Elizabeth. No children are named in his will. She remarried by 1703 to Jacob Regnier. Jacob Regnier is found in Maryland records with Amos Garrett who is also found with a John Metcalfe. Does anyone know if James Metcalfe and John Metcalfe are related?

Jacob Regnier, son of James (1) was born ca 1672 and died in Maryland in 1714. He was of Lincoln’s Inn, Middlesex, England, when he married Anne Rayley on 18 Dec 1688 in St. James’ Duke Place (IGI). In Oct 1699 he was admitted as an attorney before the Provincial Court. He was in Prince George Co., Maryland by 10 Aug 1702 when Edward and Ann Willett gave him power of attorney. In Aug 1702 he bought land from Edward Willett of PG Co. By April 1703 he m. Elizabeth [probably Jobson], widow of James METCALFE and daughter of Joanna [Jobson] Markham. Eben Jobson; she was living in New York in 1726. William Markham preceded his cousin, the Founder, to Philadelphia, as Deputy Governor of Pennsylvania.

I leave to the Rector and Inhabitants of New York, in communion of the Protestant Church of England as now established by law, all that my one-third of a certain parcel of land in Bushwyck, in Kings County, between the lands of Francis Titus and Jacob Bobine, called by the name of "Coycote Farm," otherwise "Prospect." And all that my one-half of a piece of meadow at Bushwyck containing 10 acres, lying between the lands of Peter Praa and Hannah Talcott. Also all that other piece of land, belonging to me in Bushwyck, bounded east by land of Francis Titus, and west by the farm aforesaid containing 14 acres. In trust that they permit the people of Bushwyck, in connection with said church, to erect on some convenient part of the said Coycote Farm a substantial edifice and structure for a chapel or church and free school.
