My mother's maiden name is Metlock, and I am like you wanting to know the background of the family. My mother altogether has seven brothers and sisters and they were raised in Chicago, Ill. That is as much as I know but definitely want to know more.

This person's name may be a little different that Vanda or Benda. My mother was in the hospital with this little girl when she was small. They were in Louisville Children's hospital & mom said this little girl was in the hospital for have eaten some lye & it had damaged her stomach. MY Grandfathers'mother was Sarah Ann Metlock. she married a Caluette in Arkansas she also married a Holstin and to a William Riley Hutchison whom she divorced. . I have Her dob as May 19, 1870 in AR and dod was Sept 10, 1953 in Mexia, Limestone co, TX
She had Leslie Caluette, Rueben Caluette, Tennessee Caluette, Fannie Holstin, a William Tom Hutchison,and a Jessie columbus Hutcheson. any info on Sarah Ann Metlock would be appreciated.

my great great grandmother was Gooly Denton Metlock from Alabama. She was suposed part Cherokee. There are some Metlocks in the 1800's census in Haywood county , Alabama .

Thanks for replying back so promptly. I have no real facts about where the Metlock family might of originated. I will look at my grandfather's obituary and see if there are any clues there. I have gone into the different phone directories on line such as Yahoo etc, and have found a few Metlocks' one in Cleveland, Ohio, one in Texas, and I can't recall where else. I just need to get up the nerve to try and contact these people. It seems that I vaguely remember my granny talking of some relatives here in Ohio, and when I first moved here to Ohio, I found a Metlock in the phone book and called and a child answered, so I did not wnat to frighten the child by asking any questions. In this day and age children need to be so careful and I can understand that. The next time I thought any more about it, they must have moved or something, because the name was no longer listed. I am so glad that you responded back, and that you were understanding of the fact that I felt it only fair to be open about my race. I did not want to be up front and let you know that so we could go on from there. I am glad to find that you are a "soul sister" (smile) and that will make it more feasible that you will want to pursue the matter.

Please keep in touch with any news that you find out and maybe in the future we can actually meet. I am sure that Metlock is not real common surname and that theree are not many around,and time is of the essence.

My grandfather (Metlock) had a half-brother whom I believe is from Texas, so I am lead to believe that the person in Texas may be some distant relative. Again thanks for replying and we will keep in contact. I know in my heart that God has a plan for me, for all this is just a miracle in that I am finding people who are or might be related.

My Metlocks are also African-American. I only have that one name and location, so who knows where the family started or ended up.

Hello Karen,

I am not sure if my family originated in OK. I need to make you aware that I am of African-American decent. My grandfather, whose name was John Wesley Metlock, died before I got a chance to meet him and my father is also deceased now. I never was told any information about the Metlock Family, so I will be starting from scratch. This name is not a very common one and I have seen it only a few times in phone books.

Please let me know any information that you may find and I will share any that I find.

lost family members. This really works for I just recently was united with family members on my mothe's side that I had no idea existed. They knew of each other, but I had no idea they existed.
