John Metler was born in Painn 1805-1809- Married Mary Ann Slack, sons Henry and Daniel were born in PA. 1834 and 1838.
The family migrated to Marion Co OH before 1843. 3 more sons were born in OH.,Edward in 1843, Isaac in 1844-Abraham in 1845. They moved to Effingham Co about 1859. They were there in the 1860 Census. Abraham and Edward served during the Civil War.John died before the 1870 census.Sometime about 1870 or shortly after they added a "t" to their name as it appeared that way in Henry's marriage to Mary Ann Maycroft in 1872. In all previous records it has had only one "t. The only 2
immigrants I can find with just one "t", are Jacob Metler who
arrived on the ship Mercury in 1735, although some ships list show a Hans Metler(also listed as Hans Muller)there are also 2 other Muller's listed Hendryck and a child Maria. The other one is Nickolas who arrive in Novia Scotia in the early 1700's. from Switzerland as was Jacob. I have found the names Melter, Hetler which might be inaccurate translations.
