John and Emil Meyer lived in Frankenlust around 1900 to 1920. I am interested in the Meyer home that is on the southeast corner of Hotchkiss and Andre Roads east of Euclid. Kramer's meat market is a block west. Which Meyer owned it? John or Emil?

I think they are my great aunt and uncle, he was my grandfather Wilbert J. Meyer's brother he was born and raised in the Augsburg/Shobonier, IL. area. I know he lived in Texas and I am pretty sure his wife's name was Dorothy. I was a young boy the last time I seen Walter but 1997 would be about right for his time of death.

Johann Heinrich Meyer was born in Alsace France around this same time. He was married to Elisabetha Walter. They left from Strausberg, Germany and came to New Orleans, La. They arrived here before 1841 because their children were baptized in the German Luthern Church in New Orleans at this time.

Johan Juergen Meyer died 1845. His son Friedrich Meyer who lived Neetzendorf and Eichdorf as well as Oldendorf while he worked at Roethen as game park warden died either 1860 or 1879. [I forget which at the moment]

That brings up whether he remarried had children prior to his first marriage or had illegitimate children. Nothing has been said about that? His first wife that I am aware of Luhmann died 1856. So any children that I do not know of would have to sneak inbetween some of his childrens gaps or would have to have been between 1851 and 1856.

I have two marriages of a Friedrich Meyer who worked at Rothen??? And one of these might be his remarriage?
So then few sons would have to have been born 1857 - 1869; 1879. He would be a very old man at that age, he was born 1814.

I have nothing on his daughters marriages either. folklore with out documentation says they married.

Eva Catharina's maiden name was Hage. She was the daughter of Jacob Hage, who lived near Brickerville, Elizabeth Twp.

Johannes' Will, was written Oct 20, 1821 and proved Nov 13, 1821, Rapho Township. The Will mentions his wife and eight children. Sons, Henry and George were named executors. I do not have a copy of the Will.

My second great grandfather is George Harlow Meyer (1867-1946) who was born in Sandusky County, Ohio. I recently received some information from my grandmother (newspaper clippings and the like) that says he has the following siblings:

John, living in Woodville, Ohio
Edward, living in Toledo, Ohio
Oscar, living in Cleveland, Ohio
Josephine Goetz, living in Luckey, Ohio

On further research I found a census record for 1880 in Sandusky County, Ohio for a Johann Meyer who is married to Elizabeth and they have Emanuel, Georg, Henry, Johann and Josephina. The same family, again in Sandusky County, in the 1900 census has Henry, John, Josephine, Minnie, Eddie and Oscar. That accounts for all the known siblings with some extras. According to the death certificate of John Simon Meyer [who I believe is the father of Emanuel, George, Henry, John, Josephine, Minnie/Wilhelmina, Edward and Oscar] he was born in Ohio, died in Sandusky County, Ohio and is the son of Herman H. Meyer and Dorothy Thorman. Does anybody have any information regarding this family at all? Thanks!

In family pages you will find my man born 1806 at Neetzenddorf. I found one brother b. 1817, who had married at Uelzen He had two children. His wife was related to Holly Meyer Tree here and at world connect. Also under the name Paul Behmke.

MUSCATINE, Iowa - Mary Jane Meyer, 78, died Friday, June 30, 2006, at Unity Hospital.

At her request, there will be no visitation or services. There will be a memorial gathering of friends and family at a later date, after the remains are returned from the University of Iowa, School of Medicine. Jeffrey S. Nichols Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Meyer was born Nov. 21, 1927, in Columbus Junction, the daughter of Howard E. and Etta Dircks Bell. She married Reginald M. Meyer Jr. on May 20, 1948.

She was proud of her Presbyterian heritage. After graduating from Columbus Junction High School, she attended McKennan Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux Falls, S.D.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was unselfishly considerate in her friendships, steadfastly loyal to her principles and deeply conscientious and sincere. She had the happy faculty of appreciating all that was worthy and loveable in others and was possessed of a nature so full of sunshine that, to her, all of life became beautiful and full of meaning. She will be sorely missed.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years; two daughters, Victoria and Kristine; a son, Reginald III; a son-in-law, Walter Conlon; a daughter-in-law, Ramona Meyer; five grandchildren, Emily Davis and husband Joe, Evan Barrett, John Conlon, Michael Conlon and Regina Arnone and husband Michael; sisters, Betty Boulton and husband Bill, Peggy Kulp, Karyn Hills and husband Bill, Paulette Redlinger and husband John and brothers, Boone Bell and wife Marian, Jerry Bell and wife Roberta, George Bell and wife Rose Ann, all of Columbus Junction and Columbus City; sisters-in-law, Alleyne Begey and husband Jack, Karen Luedtke, Jackie Schroeder and husband Larry, all of Muscatine; and brothers-in-law, Jim Ellis and Albert Meyer and wife Norma, all of Muscatine.

Hi, I also noticed the WWI Draft Reg for Frank. The birth dates are wrong. Rose's Frank was born in CA 3 Dec 1890. Frank J was a cook & may have been in AZ, but can't figure out what's going on. In 1912 Frank was living with his brother, Adolph (who was born in Pullman, Cook Co,)in Los Angeles and both worked as cooks. Bernhard was born in Nakel, Germany (now Naklo-nad-Notecia, Poland. I have info on his children but nothing on his siblings. His 1st child was named Theodore (who died in infancy), 2nd child Adolph, both born Pullman, Cook Co, IL. Bernhard worked for the Pullman company (railroad cars) as a carpenter. In 1883 he was living @ 24 Fleetwood, chicago, IL. I'll try to digest all this info and get back to you.

Bernhard Reseck married Anna Brokop in Chicago in 1882. I have her parents as Herman & Paulina (Wilands) Brokop. I have children: Anna, Bertha & Paulina (Pauline). Frank & Rose were married in 1930, Cook Co, IL. I think he, Frank, was visiting his Grandmother Paulina as he was born, & lived in CA. According to 1900 census, Paulina had13 children, 6 still alive. So there is plenty of room to add more children. Do you have Mary Brokop Gabryzewski's death certificate? It may say who her parents were.

Navy Marks Passing of Rear Admiral Wayne E. Meyer

Retired Navy Rear Adm. Wayne E. Meyer, regarded as the father of the Navy’s AEGIS Weapons System, passed away today.

"I am deeply saddened by a great loss to our Navy family,” said Admiral Gary Roughead, Chief of Naval Operations. “Rear Admiral Meyer’s passion, technical acumen, and warfighting expertise served as the foundation of our Navy combatant fleet today. On behalf of the men and women of the United States Navy, I extend my deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to the Meyer family. He was a close friend and mentor to so many of us. His legacy will remain in the Navy forever."

Meyer was born in Brunswick, Mo., on April 21, 1926. In 1946, he graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He also held an master’s degree in astronautics and aeronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School.

Meyer’s Navy career began in 1943 as an apprentice seaman. In 1946, he was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve and was transferred to regular Navy in 1948. After several years at sea, he returned to school in 1951 and attended the Joint Guided Missile School, Fort Bliss, Texas, and the Naval Line School, Monterey, Calif., and eventually served as an instructor at Special Weapons School, Norfolk, Va.

Meyer returned to sea as executive officer on USS Strickland, followed by service on the commander’s staff, Destroyer Force Atlantic. He was then ordered to USS Galveston.

In 1963, Meyer was chosen to head the TERRIER desk in the Special Navy Task Force for Surface Missile Systems. He turned down a destroyer command to continue his work with missile, radar, and fire control systems, and became the founding Chief Engineer at the Naval Ship Missile System Engineering Station, Port Hueneme, Calif. In 1970, the Navy chose then Capt. Meyer to lead the development of the new AEGIS Weapon System in the Naval Ordnance Systems Command.

In this position, Meyer was promoted to rear admiral in Jan. 1975. In Jan. 1977, he assumed duties as the founding project manager of the AEGIS Shipbuilding Project. This project was ultimately responsible for the construction of all of the Navy’s current cruisers and destroyers – with 89 ships built or in construction, and more in planning. This is one of the longest and largest naval shipbuilding programs in history. He retired from active duty in 1985.

In Nov. 2006, the Secretary of the Navy announced that an Arleigh Burke class destroyer, DDG 108, would be named in honor of Rear Adm. Meyer. Christened on Oct. 18, 2008, the ship utilizes the same combat system that Meyer helped to develop, the Aegis Combat System, including the SPY-lD, multifunction phased array radar. This advanced system makes the AEGIS ship the foundation of the U.S. Navy’s surface combatant fleet. Additionally, when the ship is commissioned in Philadelphia, Pa. on Oct. 10, 2009, it will be manned with a complement of highly trained sailors, providing the Navy with a dynamic multi-mission warship that can operate independently or as part of carrier strike groups, surface action groups, or amphibious ready groups, ensuring USS Wayne E. Meyer will lead the Navy into the future.

Rear Adm. Meyer’s personal decorations and service medals include: Distinguished Service Medal; Legion of Merit; Meritorious Service Medal; Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon with Bronze Star; China Service Medal; American Campaign Medal; World War II Victory Medal; Navy Occupation Service Medal; National Defense Medal with Bronze Star; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation; and Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation.

In 1977, Meyer was designated a Pioneer in the Navy's Acquisition Hall of Fame in the Pentagon. In 2008, he was presented with the sixth annual Ronald W. Reagan Missile Defense Award.
