Kenneth O. Michel, Sr., 83, of Erie, died Monday, February 16, 2009 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 31, 1925, a son of the late Otto and Flora Grams Michel. Kenneth was a graduate of West Tech High School in Cleveland, Ohio and served in the US Army Air Corps as an aviator and navigator during WW II. Following the war, he graduated from Case Tech in 1949 and went on to work as a V.P. of the Management Training Center at both the General Electric Plant in Erie and with GTE in the International Division of the Management Center in Norwalk, Conn. He also owned and operated K.O. Michel Associates for many years, working as a consultant. He was married to the late Esther Kuhl Michel for 56 years and was a long time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Erie. Kenneth was a respected and brilliant business man as well as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend to many. He had a sparkling wit, loved music and enjoyed singing in church choirs wherever he resided. He also loved golf, softball and playing bridge. We will miss him so, but rejoice that he is now safely in the loving arms of our Savior Jesus and back with his beloved wife. His race was run with deftness and love. Kenneth is survived by two sons, Kenneth Michel, Jr. and his wife, Celeste, of Erie, and David Michel and his wife, Pam, of Hemet, Calif. He also leaves three grandsons, Luke, Keith and Jake Michel; two brothers-in-law, Harry Kuhl of Erie, and James Kuhl and his wife, Judy, of San Jose, Calif., as well as a niece and a nephew. Friends may call on Friday from 4 p.m. till 7 p.m. at Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th St. at Powell Ave., and are invited to services there on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Rev. John Erthein officiating. Burial will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3642 W. 26th St., Erie, PA 16506.
