I am very interested in your post. My Grandmother was a Mable Midgley who married into the Smith family, They had my father George, whou was later adopted by his Uncle George (Mable's brother, which gave me back the Midgley name). All of this took place in Jersey City, NJ. I can only guess, but that would make John a possible brother of Mable and George.
