My grandmother's maiden name is Midura, first name Rose (or could have been shorten to Rose from something else). The only thing I know (I'm just starting this side of the family tree) is that she was left behind in Poland while my great-grandmother and great-grandfather left Poland for America.

When Rose Midura was 18 months-2 years old, they went back and got her. My great-grandmother was pregnant at the time with Joseph (or Josef) Midura. Rose was residing with my great-great-grandmother at the time in Poland. I know that my great grandfather's name was Michael (or Mikala) Midura and Caroline (or Karoline) Bozek (or Boczek) Midura.

Rose Midura married Leo LaMunion (my grandfather).

Rose Midura LaMunion has a sister, Wanda Midura Moses, still living in NY.

Any information you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Any information you can give me

Bingo! That's my uncle Gus! He and my dad (Edward) were sons of Josef Midurski (initially Midura) and Katarzyna Futyma. I saw on ellisisland.org that Peter and Zuzanna Futyma, parents of Jan, Katarzyna, Marya and Teofil visited the US at least twice. When Katarzyna came over in the early 1900's, I believe she went to North Grovesvenor Dale, CT which is where her brother Jan lived. What was your grandfather's name (as I guess he's my grandmother's brother)?
Irena

Not sure if there is a connection. It's possible-my grandfather was born around 1879-any idea when Anna Midura was born? There were relatives in Camden, NJ but I'm not sure of they were on my grandfather's side (Midura) or my grandmother's (Futyma). There were also relatives in North Grovesnerdale (not sure of spelling) because my grandfather stayed with those relatives when he come over in the early part of the century.
Let me know if you find any info!

My grandfather was Josef Midura (b. 1879) from Mielec who came to the USA around 1900. He changed the family name to Midurski at some unknown point. He was listed at Ellis Isalnd as "Midura" but his wife, who came over later was listed as "Midurska."
Unfortunately my father passed away over 25 years ago but I remembered him telling me and showing me on a National Geographic map where his father was from.I think some relatives may have been in Camden, NJ but it could have been from my grandmother's (nee Futyma) family.

I've tried doing a geneological search but am limited as I speak/read English only. I can trace back only to my grandparents coming to the US. Who are your relatives? When did they come over?

Irena M. McClain
Barbara,
In reference to your inquiry on Aug. 27, 2003,I contacted my godmother in Utica by the name of Wanda Moses whose mother and father you mentioned did live on Hart St. She is the sister of Gladys (Wadislawa-in Polish) Midura who married Edward Sokolowski in Utica in June 1929. Gladys was born Oct. 7, 1911 and died March 3, 1953. After Edward left, Gladys married Ambrose Virgil (Duke) Tracy (Tracz). My mother may have known your family for she married Martin Midura, the brother of Gladys and Wanda in June of 1928 and it seems that the name Sokolowski sounds familiar to me, most likely my mother talked about them, but I don't remember. Edward and Gladys were most likely married in Holy Trinity Ch. in Utica. Do hope this helps you somewhat-I did send you an e-mail directly but never heard wheather you received it or not. If I can be of any help feel free to contact me at crabbytoo60@hotmail.com

Regards,
Floyd R.
I recently gained some information on my uncle who once lived in Utica. I hope some of you can confirm the info that follows. My Uncle Edward Sokolowski was once married (perhaps only very shortly) to Wladislawa (Wanda?) Midura, whose father was Michael Midura and mother was Caroline Midura. They lived on Hart Street in Utica. And that is just about all the info I have on him, because he left Utica, and the rest of my family never knew his whereabouts. I was born in Utica; my father was Anthony Sokolowski, who was killed in WWII. I would be pleased to correspond with anyone.

Tarnow area surnames Gula/Wrzesien/Stalmach/Swiader/Waz

I am researching the names Gula, Wrzesien, Stalmach, Swiader and Waz, in the vicinity of Tarnow ( call it Malopolskie province ). At the time my ancestors lived there, the area was known as Galicia, and was under Austrian rule.
Some of the towns they lived in are Szczucin, Zgorsko, Jamy Wielki (?), and Malec ( could be Mielec? ). I have some old documents written in Polish which mentions these place names, but I only know where Szczucin and Mielec can be found.
Some of my Gula and Waz ancestors emigrated to the USA in the early 1900's, and settled in Taunton, Massachusetts. Many other family members remained in Poland, and their descendants are still in Poland, but we do not know who they are anymore. The names Wrzesien and Stalmach are from my 3rd and 4th great grandmothers, who married into the Gula family. The Swiaders are my cousins. I believe there are also Widelski cousins, too ( not sure if correct spelling ). I would be pleased to hear from those of you researching these surnames, in and around these towns/province.
Thank you in advance.
Judy M.
