Thank you Jenna, for saying that. My name is Bobbie, I am one of Connie's daughter, her middle child. How dare someone outside the family post this without consent. That wasn't their job to do... Her 6th year anniversary is coming up and it hasn't been easy... I hope one day she can rest peacefully, she comes to me in dreams. She's not at rest. That's very sad and heartbreaking... Again Jenna, my dear cousin, thank you!!!

I have always thought that my family might be related to the Monterry Mier family but have not been able to confirm. My father Salvador Mier was born in Durango; his father Daniel Mier (brother Adolfo) was born in 1865 in Chalchihuites, Zacatecas and his father was Jose Maria Mier, mother was Fortina Roldan. Any chance my Jose Maria is your great grandfather?

Any suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated.

Gracias y saludos! Salvador Mier Jr.

I speculate that my family is also linked to the Mier family from Monterry but have not been able to confirm. My grandfather Daniel Mier(1865) and his brother Adolfo Mier were born in Chalchihuites, Zacatecas---their parents were Jose Maria Mier and Fortina Roldan---I am not sure where they were born. I have not be able to go any further than Jose Maria Mier---any hints/suggestions would be appreciated.

You can probably make an educated guess regarding the potential birth date for your Daniel Mier, based on the age of your father, his father and so on...

That is what I was trying to determine---whether or not your Daniel Mier could have been born abt 1865---if not and we are both way off base then we know that your Daniel and my Daniel and different people. That's all I was trying to convey.

If indeed, they were both born around the same date then we may have something here...??

Thanks y saludos

Wow, that was a hundred years ago. My dad doesn't remember much about his grandmothers side, only that she was married to Daniel Mier. I'm not really familiar with my grandmother she passed from cancer when I was 3 years old. I do have an uncle named Adolfo though. Maybe my grandmother named him after him? Who knows. There must be some kind of relation, though. I mean the last name Mier is not so common and then coming from a town that is only 15min from San Jose Del Alto there must be some kind of relation. If I find anymore information I will let you know.

My grandfather Daniel Mier was born in 1865 in Chalchihuites, Zacatecas and died 1918 in Durango, Dugango. He married my grandmother Maria Enriqueta Acosta in 1908; I know that Daniel had been previously married to an unknown Hernandez and had a daughter Consuelo who lived in Mexico City and has since died.Daniel may have also been married to others---?

I am not familiar with the names Irma, Edmundo or Ernestina Mier but Daniel---if your father still lives ask hm if he knew whether Daniel had a brother named Adolfo; Adolfo married my grandmother's sister Dolores Acosta.

She had one brother and one sister, Edmundo Mier and Ernestina Mier. They're from a small town in Zacatecas. It's called San Jose Del Alto. My dad thinks that his grandfathers name is Daniel Mier. He left my grandma and remarried. We have no idea who he remarried though. Last we heard of him he was in Tijuana. It would be awesome if we're somehow related.

Dear Marie:
I will ask the necessary questions in the family to try to know something more than their grandfather of you, but I should say him in the first place that our family is not only the last name Mier, they are also very important the last names Escandón and Cabrero. Maybe the main source of information on its grandfather in England would have to look for them in Sacred Domingo's Religious Order, to which the Padre Mier (Fray Servando Teresa de Mier) one of the signatories of the Constitution of the Independence of Mexico that had to escape to England before the continuous imprisonments to that fué subjected by his ideas.
It is possible that their grandfather Carlos used the contacts that the family has in you order them nuns to carry out the trip, first to England and later to U.S.A.
Our family has always been very taken root with America, (the hotel Armadores de Santander in Havana, Cuba built it for D. José Cabrero Mier; D. José Escandón is one of the main names of the Mexican history together with the Padre Mier).
Nevertheless I will go him communicating you any information that can obtain of the old men of the family, or of the documents that can be located relative to their grandfather.
Anyway know that you come from a family whose antiquity goes back approximately until the year 970, possessor of holding nobiliary granted for at least 15 different kings, and big men's cradle that they highlighted in the letters, music, politics and military campaigns as much in Spain as in America, for what won't be difficult, as it has never been it, to follow the hint of a Mier. Fortunately we are not too many.
Sincerely:
Juan.
He and my grandmother parted when my dad was 12, and he only saw his father once more, that is the reason why we know so little of Carlos's background. My dad is now 83 and would dearly like to know more about his father.
Good luck,Marie

Hello Marie
My name is Juan Martínez Mier. I am a descendant of the family Mier that we are indeed natives from Santander (now Cantabria), Spain, although also part of our family in its origins settled in Asturias, Spain.
Our family proceeds in its entirety of an area of Cantabria located among the current populations of Torrelavega and Cabezón de la Sal. In the town of Renedo de Piélagos the "Palacio of the Mier" is in whose main door is carved in stone the nobiliary shield of the family with the legend "Ahead those of Mier for more to be worth."
Our last name is not very average and all those that we take it belong to the same family, although there is another branch of the last name that is "de Mier" that comes from an initial division of the first components of our family.
From the beginning she has been a venturesome and traveling family, she has members in Argentina, Mexico, USA, (In NY today my uncle lives Luis Mier).
I will carry out some investigations Carlos Mier and their life previous to their march of Spain, as well as of the life of him and their next relatives in Spain and in other countries in that they can be.
Sincerely.
Juan

I just noticed your posting---I have been researching the Mier family from Zacatecas and Durango Mexico. Most of the Mier family from these 2 Mexican states came to Texas abt 1920 and most of them went to the El Paso, Texas area---my father Salvador Mier Sr went to San Antonio. There is a Carlos Pascual Mier that appears in the 1920 and 1930 El Paso, Texas Census. He also registered for WWI and his birthdate appears as January 31, 1882. I don't know if this is the person you are looking for but thought I would pass this along to you.

Good Luck!

Salvador

Hi, there! My father's name is F. Joseph Mier...his fathers name was Clyde Mier. I remember, growing up, that there were Mier relatives in the upper peninsula of Michigan...I think Skidaway Lake area. You might want to check there. I'm not sure it's the same Mier family you're looking for, but it is possible.

I have Ellis Island records of him travelling to the US in 1912/14 with Mexico City as his place of birth. Marriage records of 1920 in London, put his birth in 1886 and his father as Matias Mier, deceased, horse breeder and that's about it.
Cheers Marie.

Dear Juan,

My great grandfather was Oliverio Martínez Mier, born in Asturias. We are currently researching his predecessors. His profession was notary/attorney and the city of Alcazar de San Juan mentions Oliverio Mier on their website as the founder of the casino, which would later become the town hall. The house Oliverio Martínez Mier lived in, which we believe was constructed by him, is of touristic importance and now houses the School of "Las Relgiosas del Sagrado Corazón" in the city of alcazar de San Juan. The same house is said to have been inhabited by Oliverio Mier the founder of the Casino - we don't know if the town hall displays correct info on their website or if Oliverio Mier and Oliverio Martínez Mier are the same person - but they definitely lived in the same house - so Oliverio Mier could have been his uncle.

http://www.turismocastillalamancha.com/arte-cultura/monument...

Oliverio Martínez Mier, was an important figure and is remembered by the school of las religiosas del sagrado corazón, as well as by tour routes. He received the King Alfonso XIII on his visit to the city. A curious anecdote is that he was the first person to install a bath in his house. He died at age 40 however leaving a large family to care for itself and then the Civil War started in Spain, and thus my family had to readjust to a different reality.
