Sydney Mifflin from England

My GGF William Sydney Mifflin was born in Bristol, England (and emigrated to Australia) and his father's name was Sydney Mifflin according to his marriage certificate. I can't find any record of a Sydney Mifflin in England and wonder if he was a Soloman Mifflin who perhaps changed his name. If anyone has any information regarding this family, I'd love to hear it.

Mifflin-Corbett, Texas to California

Seeking information on Thomas H. Corbett, born Texas abt. 1901 (H could be for Henry, but not sure), who married Tressie/Tressy b. abt. 1907, in Louisiana. They are found in the 1930 census in Los Angeles census, with children, Thomas Jr. b. about 1923 and James H. b. about 1923, both children were born in Louisiana. Found a listing on the California death index for a Thomas Corbett, died 23 Sep 1992in Ventura, CA, and his mother's maiden name was Mifflin. Don't have any more info on the Mifflin family, but hoping someone will recognize some part of this and contact me. Thank you so much for any help you can give me.

Gov Thomas Mifflin, Catherine Livingston, and Susannah Mifflin?

Hello,

I have what one would call an "issue", and I could use some serious help!

I am a descendant of Henry Reighley, son of Matthew Reighley and Susannah Mifflin.

Henry's daughter Jennie (I have also seen her called Jane)Reighley Steen was my ggggrandmother.

I have searched and searched and came up with Thomas Mifflin as Susannah Mifflin's father, and Catherine E Livingston as Susannah's mother.

I know Thomas Mifflin was married to Sarah Morris. It is my understanding that he had at least one(likely more) child out of wedlock. Susannah is supposedly one of them.

However, on some of the family trees I have looked at, Susannah Mifflin's mother is a Mary McLanahan, father still Thomas Mifflin, but possibly another Thomas Mifflin.

I find a Catherine Livingston married to a Peter Close, but no daughter named Susannah mentioned. This raises another question... What was Susannah's legal maiden name? Mifflin? Livingston? Close? I have only ever seen it on other family trees as MIFFLIN.

Everytime I am sure I have the correct Susannah Mifflin, it seems I don't. Everytime it seems I have the correct Catherine Livingston, it then seems I'm wrong.

I wish I knew something I was certain of, but as of now, my genealogy for this branch is all 'soft copy' or 'rough draft'.

So far as I can tell, it does seem like Susannah's name was MIFFLIN and that her parents were Thomas Mifflin and Catherine Livingston. I feel almost certain, ALMOST, that Catherine is the daughter of Henry Livingston and Susannah Storm of NY. Of course I am nearly as unsure of all of this as I am sure of it. I can get little to no actual sources from historical or vital records. Much of what I am basing this off of is various websites of Livingston, Mifflin, Crissman, or Reighley family trees.

Any info would be appreciated. I will gladly share what I have, even my 'rough draft' Reighley/Mifflin/Livingston lineage.

Thanks.
Margie and Harry Mifflin were among the names listed on a signature quilt top that we discovered while cleaning out my grandfather's home in San Angelo, Tom Green County, TX. No one in the family recognizes any of the names, so I am trying to locate someone that it might mean something to. This is a quilt top only and is not quilted. The other names are: The Turners, Anna Colvin, Ben and Nadine, Lois Colvin, Hartmann, Ollie Mae, Betty Warren, Mrs. Otis Brackin, Mr. & Mrs. Victor Bruderer, Alva & Bill Blackerby, Lyn B. Willoughby, The Brays, The SA Blackerbys, Mr. & Mrs. GE Teel, George Phillips/Blanche Phillips, Gilberts, Joe Shaws, Mrs. J.W./Ruth & Jerry McMains, Sue Welch.
Any help finding one of these people or their descendents so I can return this heirloom to its rightful place would be appreciated.
I'm looking for any information on a Charles Mifflin that would have been in the Pensacola area from 1827-1828. I am assuming that he was not from the area, as he is on neither the 1820 Spanish census or the 1830 US census. He helo the position of Escambia County Sheriff for 1827-1828, following the death of the former sheriff to the appointment of a new sheriff. I am looking for BMD records of any kind or any type of lead with his family. This is part of an ongoing research project between the Escambia County Sheriff's Office and the University of West Florida. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

William Mifflin

It appears that my wife, Sharon Kay Brewster, is a direct descendant of William Elizabeth Black Mifflin. We had traced her Mifflin ancestry back to "Jefferson" Mifflin of Jackson Co. Illinois, and his wife, Sarah Jones. It appears that Jefferson is in fact "Thomas Jefferson Mifflin" shown on your listing and married to Sarah Jones in Jackson County, Illinois.

Thomas Jefferson and Sarah Jones Mifflin had a son, George Mifflin, born February 19, 1877 in Jackson County, Illinois. (He died in October 1967 in Mira Loma (Riverside Co.) California. George Mifflin married Daisy Mae Ledbetter (b. 2/19/1880 in Jackson Co. Ill; died 12/29/1915 in Los Angeles, California). I don't know the marriage date. Among their children was Ruth Gertrude Mifflin, born June 28, 1901 in Belleville, Illinois(died October 9, 1978 in Hanford, California). Ruth married Cecil Devour Cooper (b. 6/24/1896 in Alhambra, California; died 11/22/71 in Fresno, California). Cecil and Ruth Mifflin Cooper had two children -- Cecil Devour Cooper, Jr. and Virginia Lois Cooper, my wife's mother, born on October 10, 1922 in Coalinga, California.
Mifflin Family Tree ("helicuss")

Laurenda: As I mentioned to Carla Davis in a reply, my wife is descended from the George Mifflin who is Clarence's brother. George was the son of Thomas Jefferson Mifflin and Sarah Jones, and was born February 19, 1877 in Jackson County, Illinois. Thomas Jefferson Mifflin's ancestors back to William and Elizabeth Black Mifflin are set forth in the Judy Swann Boone message on the Mifflin family board. If you would like any information on George Mifflin's descendants in my wife's branch of the tree, let me know. If you know anything about the Mifflin tree in addition, I'd love to learn it as well. Thanks, Bob Vanderet (Bvanderet@omm.com)

Hi Laurenda,
I'm afraid I can't be of much help to you yet as my Mifflin line starts with Thomas' daughter Emily (1773-1850, bd in Philadelphia, PA) and ironically, she is the only one of his offspring that I have been able to find as yet. Emily m. Congressman Joseph Hopkinson (b. 1770 @ Philadelphia, PA; d. 1842 @ Lancaster, PA), son of Delegate Francis Hopkinson, a signer of the Declaration of Independance. Unfortunately, I don't have any references for any Mifflin ancestors moving to Virginia; they're all from PA and thereabouts.
Do you need information about Thomas' ancestery? If so I can provide you with infomation for about 4 generations behind him. Let me know, I'll be happy to help!
