My paternal grandfather was named Milorad Mihajlovic. In the US, his first name would be Michael. He was born in 1896 and emigrated to the United States in November 1921 with my grandmother, Zorka Culic Mihajlovic. Ellis Island records indicate they lived in Erdut (Croatia?) before arriving in the US. My father was born in Detroit in 1925, but Milorad left the family, or my grandmother divorced him, at that time. My father never met his father, nor could learn anything about him from the Culic family.
My great-grandparents, Stefan and Danica Culic, indicated they were from Stapar. Their oldest son, Rade, arranged the marriage between Milorad Mihajlovic and my "Majka." It is rumored Rade had to "cross a valley" to find Milorad Mihajlovic to marry his sister. So, I am not sure where exactly Milorad might have come from, but it probably was fairly near Stapar.
I have searched the social security death index, so if Milorad stayed in the US, he did not get a social security number under either Milorad or Michael. I wonder if he went to Canada, or returned to the old country. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It could be that we have relatives here or abroad, and it would be nice to build that side of the family tree.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
