Mika's in Chicago

Hi there. We recently started our family tree after a lot of phone calls. My last name in Mika and I grew up in Chicago. As far as we can tell, we have been able to trace 4 generations. First, us, my father Louis Mika, Grand parents Louis S. (siblings John, Thadeus Matthew) and Marie Mika (nee Nawoj), and my Great Grand Parents Paul and Sophie Mika. That's about as far as we got. Any of this sound familiar to anyone? In our family it's kind of tricky becasue my Great Uncle, John Mika ran away from home when he was young, bu twe know he stayed in Chicago, married and has children and grand children. My Dad grew up in the Humboldt Park Area whn it was Mostly Polish and went to St. Sylvester School. My Grandpa Lou unfortunately died in 1955 and never wrote anything down, so now we're stuck.

Mika Surname

I am looking for the family of my grandfather, George Mickey, who's original name was Gyorgy Mika. He arrived in this country (New York)in December of 1903 on board the ship Belgravia. He and several brothers settled in southwestern Pennsylvania. He had 10 children, George, Andy, Mary, Anna, Mike, John, Helen, Sue, Charles, and Margaret, who all used the surname Mickey. I believe his brothers retained the surname Mika. He was born in the village of Parihuzovce in the Snina region of what is now Slovakia.

My great-aunt's name was Bessie (Nohava) Mika. I don't know her husband's name. According to the 1920 census in Chicago, they had four children: James, Libby, Rose, and Elmer.
Response

In the information that I receive from Josephine it appears that Adolf Mika who was born September 1, 1868 was married to Johanna Klecan who was born in 1871 or there about and died on September 6, 1962.

I'm sure that Josephine would be happy to talk or correspond with you about the information that you want. She would probably be willing to send you the information. She is 92 years old, however I talked to her a couple of weeks ago and she seems to be doing fine. However I would suggest that you contact her as soon as possible. If you want you can tell her that I gave you her name and phone number.

I use America Online for my internet provider. What is your email address. Perhaps I could scan the three pages that I got from Josephine and send it to use as an attachment to an email. If you had AOL we could do a buddy chat which would be easier.

Let me know what you would like to do.

Josh,

I believe that Adolph is the son of Wenzl Mika who was born in 1822 in Bohemia. Adolph was born September 1, 1868 in Ft. Madison, Iowa. His son Herbert I believe was born March 21, 1899 in Kansas City, Missouri. I believe Herbert died March 11, 1988. If this is the correct family, let me know, as I have more information and can put you in contact with the family.

Mika name

Although I am not familiar with Frank Mika, my family line on my father's side contain Mika ancestors. Anton Mika came to the US through Galveston, TX with his son, Emil and his daughter, Vincencia Mika. Vincencia Mika had one daughter, Aloisa Mika. Emil married Thereszie Pavlicek. I don't know much about Emil's family, so I don't know what happened to all their children. They lived in the Rowena, TX area. When Anton Mika came to the US, our family suspects that he had a brother, because we have a photograph that shows an unnamed family who looks almost like Anton. We also know there was an Adolf(ph) Mika that was in TX around the same time as Anton. But we have never been able to find them or their families to get any communication started. I have found that Mika is a rare name. I also noticed your posting of the Gasparac name. Kasparec sounds like it. I have Kaspars on my mother's side from East TX. Hope to hear from you. -C.Hubbartt

Thanks for your response. This does sound like the same person.
I have two letters written in the 1920's to my grandmother
Clara Mae McLaughlin that are signed your cousins, Josephine and Catherine
Mika. However my grandmother died in childbirth in 1941 and
my mother was only a small child and does not
remember these "cousins".

My grandmothers parents were Bernard McLaughlin and Clara Klecan.
The Klecans came from Fort Madison, IA at one point.
Do you have any idea how Josephine Mika would have been related to
my grandmother?
Thanks for your help
