Where are the Mikulin's

Wendy  (View posts) Posted: 24 Jul 2000 9:44PM GMT
My great grandmother was a Mikulin. I have just started searching our family tree. I'm not sure if this is the correct spelling of the last name or if it is shortened (have heard rumors of this). My great grandmothers husband's name was Blaz Robich.

Where are the Mikulins

Wendy:

There are several hundred "Mikulin" surnames listed in telephone directories around the United States.

Some of these people have ancestors that came from Moravia (in the Czech Republic), Croatia, and Ukraine. It is possible that many years ago Mikulins from one of these places migrated to the other places and later migrated to the United States.

We have been able to trace our Mikulin ancestors back to about 1780 in the Czech Republic.

My grand father came to this country in about 1891.

Please contact me at RMikulin@AOL.com if you wish.

Could you tell me any more about your gr grandfather Blaz
Robich. Where was he from? I'm researching my grandmothers family. Her name was Zusanna Robich from
Cacov, Nitra Hungary. Later married Pavel Zich from Kunovo, Nitra Hungary. I don't know if there is a connection but I do know that the name Robich is almost impossible to research. This is the first information I've seen regarding it.
I'd appreciate any information you may have and will share what I have with you.

I do believe he came from Hungary. He was married to Barbara Mikulin. They had 5 children. Steve, John, Mary, Elizabeth (Betty), Robert. Betty is the only one still living.

I believe Blaz had a brother Frank. I have a copy of Blaz and Barbara's wedding with a Frank Robich and his wife. It also has someone with the name Jaga (Agnes) Rozich. I don't know who it is.

I had more info but my file was corrupted and I didn't have anything in writing anymore.

I just returned from a Mikulin family reunion and should have the family tree in about a month. Hopefully it will have some info concerning Blaz.

I have not had much luck either.

If I can be of any other help please let me know. I would be happy to see what you have.

Wendy:
Thank you for your reply. This is really getting interesting. I have very limited information on the Robich side of the family.
I do know that my gr grandmother's maiden name was Zusanna Bartun. My gr grandfather's name was Paul Robich.
I don't know how many brothers and sisters he may have had but I do have relatives in Ohio named Robich. There is a John,
Paul, Martin. These are children of Susie Robich I think who
may have been my grandmother's sister. As far as I know they were all born in Cacov, Nitra Hungary and later migrated to the US. The New York area and then they spread out from there. I have never heard the Mikulin name mentioned but you never know, if they did come from this part of Slovakia it's possible. As far as I know my gr grandfather Paul lived all of his life in Cacov. I'm trying to find out about his father and grandfather. I'd be interested in knowing what you have on Blaz. I have been unable to find anything at all about the name Robich. It doesn't seem to be listed anywhere. There are other spellings but my grandmother spelled it Robich so I'm thinking this is correct. The town of Cacov is now in Slovakia and I have looked through the Czech phone directory and found some more Robych's. Spelling is different but they may be related to one of us somehow. I have quite a bit of information on the town itself and if you'd like it let me know and I will forward it to you. I'm interested in knowing more about Blaz so please remember me when you find out.
Hope this info helped,
Diane

Diane,

You emailed me back in July last year regarding the Robich's. I found out that my gr gr grandfather's name was John Robich and his wife's name was Katherine. These were the parents to Blaz Robich.

Hi Wendy--Thanks for answering..Better late than never, I don't get back to these messages boards often either. I would be interested in knowing as much information as you have on Blaz Robich. Do you have dates? My family came from the Zahorie Region. My grandmother Zusanna was born in 1885. Her mothers maiden name was Kicka (spelling is probably off). I have no other information. I wish I knew her husband's name but I don't. Blaz may fit in here somewhere.
There is a story that my grgrandmother Anna died very young probably from pneumonia. She died in Slovakia but I don't have the year. If anything sounds familiar please let me know.
I also have the names of other Robish's from the Slovak white pages which might help if your interested. There are also a large number of Robichs living in Ohio. Let me hear from you again.

Wendy--
The family in Ohio are my cousins . There a lot of Robischs though so maybe we're not talking of the same ones. My family lives in the Canton-Massillon area and also in Lore City.
Are these the same and if so how are you related to them.
Please write back I have a lot of information on them if were talking about the same family.

Diane,

My family relatives difinately spell their name Robich, at least in the states. I have not been able to get much further with the Robich family.

My great aunt Betty (Robich) Kirtos lives in Youngstown. I sent an email to her to see exactly where the other relatives live. The only names I really know about are Darlene, John, and Tony. One of my other great aunts, Anna lives in Florida

Wendy--I'm beginning to think we are not talking of the same Robichs. Like I said my family is from the Canton-Massillon area and Lore City. I don't recall any of the names you mentioned although they all have children and grandchildren so who knows? Susie (Robish) (notice the spelling)
Married John Kress and started the Ohio branch. Their children were Mary, Martin and John I think. Let me know if there is a connection here and if there is I can go into it more with you. I think there may be ,even though very remote, there are too many of them out there not to be connected some way.

Better late than never.
53 MIKULINs came thru Ellis Island. Looking at the first names and location, they seems to point to former country of Yugoslavia. Is your ROBICH an "americanized" version of ROBIC^ ?
www.ellisislandrecords.org
Slovenia's and Croatia's phone site is listing MIKULIN and ROBIC^.

I just found this site and have just recently started checking into my ancestry. My father was Frank Mikulin - who's father was Jacob Mikulin who came to this country in the early 1900's. I found a Jakob Mikulin listed at the Ellis Island site and under his name in the registry is a Robich. There are Robich families here in Pennsylvania but don't think we're related. My grandfather was born in Lazi, Yugoslavia and lived in Mracline. That's information I got from other family members - not verified yet. Do those towns sound familiar to you?

I am not researching these surnames. Please post on all the boards that apply to your surnames. Check out http://genforum.com
You will need to find in which country the village of Lazi is. I am sure you know that the former country of Yugoslavia is now Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Macedonia, etc.
