I have been searching for this milam line also. My Grandmother Olive Lucill Whittington(Casdorph)'s dad was Everett Harrison Casdorph, who was Harry Casdorph's brother. I have been trying for 3 years now to find her grandfather. By the way it is listed in the Casdorph Book by Rayma Casdorph Atkinson as Everett and Harry being taken in by thier Grandparents Caleb Henry Casdorph and Elizabeth Casdorph(Edens) when Everett was 4 and Harry was 2. On Everett's death certificate it list's no father. The Fallowing is how it is in the book :

Surname ------- Given name ------- Birth ------- Death
---------------------------------------------------------
Casdorph --- Elizabeth ----------- 1890 ------- abt. 1894
Casdorph --- Everett Harrison ---- 8/4/1897 --- 7/18/1948
Casdorph --- Harry --------------- 6/4/1899 --- 1969
Casdorph --- Irene --------------- 3/26/1902 -- 7/1/1986
Miller ----- Martha Mattie(twin)-- 8/6/1905 --- 4/9/1993
Miller ----- ?????????(twin)------ 8/6/1905 --- 8/7/1905
Miller ----- Bonnie -------------- 12/12/1906 - 10/24/1991

These are Matilda's known children. I hope that someday i might get a clue as to who my blood line is on the casdorph's side. If anyone gets any info and would like to share it i would appreciate it very much. This is the only line in my family tree of over 500 names that i am stuck on.

Why I've waited this long the tweak the email on the correct spelling of my Grandmother's name, I do not know.

Buried at Oakwood Annex, Austin, Travis County, Texas, she is listed as Vida Alma Puryear. Some of the family remember her as Violet or Viola.

She passed in September 1923. After her divorce (uncontested) from my Grandfather Joseph Louis Joseph, she assumed her maiden name.

Additional inscription 'Meet Me In Heaven'.

I believe I am correct in reporting that J Bryce Milam, Baptist Preacher, is buried at Fitzhugh Cemetery in Hays County. He married his first wife, Rebecca Parham (? sp)in Boone County / Harrison / Arkansas. They had 2 children together. She passed before he moved in a wagon train to Texas with his second wife and their baby in her arms.

I am wondering lately about the connection between JB Milam (Oklahoma / Cherokee Nation / Educator / Missionary Baptist) and OUR BRYCE MILAM.

Re: Oron Calvin Milam, b. ca 1810
Not sure how accurate this information is.

According to census records, the first Milam around Henderson, TN was probably William b. 1794 in Warren, NC, mar. Mary Lowery.

His son( Wiliam's, not Oron's), John Calvin, b.1829 in Henderson, TN mar. Kiziah Bennett abt 1856. Their son, Oron Calvin was born abt 1859, just prior to the war, not afterwards. Oron's dau. Eugena was born abt 1857. By 1860, Kiziah was living with her children and without John. Possibly her husband was away to war. I don't find him on the census ever again.

Another son of William's, Wiliam Henry Milam b. abt 1828, had a son named James Henry Milam, b.1874. Married to Lora Jane Laster in 1899, he was born way too late to have fought in the CW.

James Henry's son Ruel, b. 1905, mar. Mabel Sue Bates, not Bateman.

The story about the pet Yankee (or Reb, depending on the teller)is one that I've read many times. I bet it was a real knee slapper in it's time.

There may have really been an earlier Oron Calvin born abt 1800, but I have been unable to find him. I've heard stories about these 17 brothers before, but have never seen actual documentation for them. From the apparent age of this article, I'm now wondering if it might just be the source of the family rumor. I'd love to know with some degree of certainty as these are my children's direct ancestors.

Does anyone have more information on these folks that they can share?

Thank you for any and all help,
Lyn Dunn Milam

mystjm@gmail.com
This listing appears to be rather old, but my father Donald R. Milam lived a few miles from the cemetary. His father was Ben Milem and his father was George FLOYD. My grandmother Della, uncle Densil and Benjamin are buried there. I believe Floyd is as well. My father says that Floyd lived in a house over the hill from the cemetary. It's been years since I have been there, I would like to take my father to visit in a few weeks. If anyone has any info. on Ben, George Floyd or his father George, I would appreciate it, especially any pictures.

My grandmother was Stella Hackworth Brooks. My g grandmother was Mary Milam. My grandfather was George W Brooks and my father was Eskel Brooks. I have found some information regarding Mary Milam on a 1870 census showing her father as Samuel D age 43 and her mother Anna age 40. Mary J is listed age 14 and there was also listed a Jno age 4. I have also found some census records for 1900 after she was married to Jasper Newton Hackworth. In 1870 she was living in Washington Township, Owen county, Indiana. I have been unable to locate any census for her until I found the census after she was married. If you have any other information or if you would like to see what information I do have, please contact me.

Calaway Jackson Milam - two or three wives?

Calaway Jackson Milam, son of Thomas Ferrell Milam and Margaret Bell, was first married to Nancy Eviline/Evelyn Bryant. After her death he married my great great aunt Elizabeth "Lizzie" Harper (prior marriage surname "Black"). I assumed those were his only marriages. I now see his headstone on findagrave.com http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Mi...; which reads, "C.J. husband of S.L. Milam born April 1, 1838, died Oct 31, 1898. A third wife or I am misreading something. Thank you.

Re: Cornelius Milam

I am the granddaughter of Wiola Milam. I vaguely recall the story of Myrtle. We did not know of her until after Viola had died. Myrtle's daughter contacted us and we met. I have a picture of Cornelius Milam and his family that Myrtle's daughter sent me. I did not know that Myrtle's name was Avery Myrtle. I was trying to find out if Viola was married (on the MIlam website it shows viola married to a Griffin before she married Sidney Moore, my grandfather). I haven't been able to document their marriage either. I have pictures of Myrtle with my mom and her brother when we finally found out about her. I have had contact with her daughters and know that one of them has done some genealogical research. I would like to know the whole story since I have heard only bits and pieces. I, too, am trying to document this link in my history

Linda (Shafer) Watt
