It would be helpful if list members could report when the spellings of the family name was changed. They could be done under separate threads, for example "Schieck to Shenck" or "Schieck to Schiek" and the likes. To do it, we would have to list individuals whom we have documented evidence of a spelling change of their last names. This was common practice when they immigrated or were adopted into a family with a similarly spelled last name. For instance, my great grandmother changed her name from Eleanor Moylan to Helen Milan so my maternal grandfather's name was Robert C. Milan not Moylan and my mother and her six sisters were also all Milan.
