I forgot the information!

JOSEPH MILLBANK

In Joseph Millbank Corona has a man of decided traits of character and one whose personality indicates his Anglo-Saxon origin and ancestry. He was born in England in 1854, son of John and Betsy (Perry) Millbank, the former being born in 1818, but both being now deceased, the mother dying at the age of fifty-eight years. Mr. Millbank was educated in his native land and his first employment was in the dairy business, in which he was engaged for fifteen years. At the age of forty-six years he came to the United States and settled in Colorado, and after remaining there for five

years came to Corona, Cal., in which place he has continued to live as one of the progressive and liberal members of the community.

In April, 1877, Mr. Millbank married Harriet Oliver, a native of Essex county, England, and to this union nine children were born, one of whom died in England. Those living are residents of Corona. Alice, born in England, is the wife of G. Bateman; John, now in Santa Ana, is married and has two children; Emily is the wife of Chester Anson; the others are William, Harriet, James, Frederick and Hilda. The last-mentioned, now attending the grammar school, was three years old when the family came to America. For five years Mr. Millbank has served as janitor of the Lincoln grammar school. Well and favorably known in his vicinity, he is always ready to assist every worthy project.

Hi, just been scrolling through all the Millband messages on here and I think I'm related to them all! My grandfather is Reginald Woodings, his father William H Woodings, his mother Mary Millband, born 1869. She is the daughter of William Millband and Mary Langley. William Millband is the son of John Millband and Alice Ward. John's brother is Thomas Millband, who married Sarah Jane Graves. Is this part of your Millband lot?!
Your photos look fascinating, but I can't work out who is who, could you tell me more about them? I'm registered on Genes Reunited if you are, and could exchange info via our trees on there?

Hi, just joined Ancestry and recently pickep my family history again. I have some Millbands in my tree who seem to come from Sproxton. I have:

My great grandmother Mary Millband 1869-1935, born Derby. Married William Woodings. Mary's parents are:

William Millband b 1843 in Sproxton married Mary, he died 1908.
They had 4 children, my Mary, then William 1881, Albert 1879, and John c 1886.

William Millband's father is John Millband, born c1821 in Edmondthorpe, Leics, died 1899. He married Alice, they lived in Nottingham. As well as William they also had George c 1846, Sarah 1848, Tom 1851, Rachel 1854, Harriet c 1857, Charles 1859, Albert 1862 and Ellen 1865. Also have John Millbands brother as Matthew born 1814.

Do we connect?

Jill Hyde

My mother tells me a tale of Bathsheba, or AKA Betsy Bay. A very straight laced lady she was too by all accounts. My mother met her twice and you stood to attention. If you did not aknowledge her Bathsheba would say: 'Boy!' (or girl depending of course) 'Boy! Haven't you forgotten something?' and you had to apologise very quickly.

It would be great if any of you do have a photograph of Bathsheba.

Out of interest, in Mansfield Woodhouse Cemetery on Leeming Lane, there lies John Green Millband. That is the adopted son of my Great Grandfather Alfred son of his second wife Emma. I will provide a photograph of both headstones and graves shortly for your interest.

Meanwhile feel free to take a look at three more photographs.

Paul.
John Milbank and William Milbank

I am trying to trace my husband's family tree and have ascertained that his grandfather was John William Milbank, born 1910 in Norwich, his father was John William Milbank born 1883 in Norwich, his father was John Milbank, a Farrier with the 5th Royal Irish Lancers, born in Carlow, Ireland in approx. 1840 and his father was John Milbank, a Farrier. There is also rumoured to be a connection to Cork, Ireland, although the family is not said to be of Irish origin? Does this ring any bells with anyone out there? Was there a John Milbank in your ancestry who disappeared at about this time?
Hi Janet,

I too am a Millband as you can see, with an newfound interest in the genealogy of the name, although leads seem few and far between... it is a very rare name! I would be very interested in any info you have. My father is called Ian and he has two brothers, Douglas and Jeffrey (the latter deceased). Their father, was called Kenneth Millband, and he may or may not still be alive as my father has not seen him since early childhood (he left my grandmother Rose to start another family elsewhere! I'm led to believe he had several children to his second wife). I have never met my grandfather.
Our branch of the Millband family is based in Lancashire. I myself live in Preston. My mother Joy has done a little research and tracked the Millband name to the Melton Mowbray area.. beyond that nothing.

hello, john.
maybe there is a connection here. my family is
from west yorkshire (at least for the last three
generations) but one of my aunts used a professional
genealogist some years ago - he traced us to
east yorkshire. give me time to dig out the details.
the basic story line was that back in the 17th century
some young man disgraced the family name and was sent off
to some family estates in ireland. three or four generations
later, one of his descendants emigrated from ireland
to england (during the potato famine in the 1840's).That was my
great grand father. i have no idea how much of this is true.
my e-mail address is: tmillbank@hotmail.com
willget back to you when i have more info.
cheers for now. tony m

TO Bruce: hi. i don't think i'mrelated to you
my family come from yorkshire,england.
if you want to know about the english side
you could try www.sullom.demon.co.uk/essex/m.htm
there is a guy listed who is researching the name millbank
(you may have to pay) Also there is the
Essex Family History Society at
www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/ESS/efhs who may help.

for the american side you could try searching the white pages
ofaol.com , yahoo.com, etc and just e-mail
all the millbanks you find listed and ask if any of your
family details fit in with theirs. A long shot - but my wife
found some very distant relatives of hers like that.
good luck with your search. if you find any millbanks coming from
yorkshire please let me know. bi tony m.
