Hello. I am trying to find documentation of the marriage of Lydia Milligan to Hutchinson (Hutshison) Calvert and the ensuing birth of their daughter Amerene Colbert. Amerene is my great, great grandmother, and Lydia and Hutchinson have been impossible to find! Any direction you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If you're still looking for information on Benjamin and Lydia, I found some on RootsWeb.com. It gives partial birth/death dates and places and shows where they're buried. Here are the addresses:

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

I also added their memorials to findagrave.com - here are those addresses:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=42...

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=42...

From what I have found the Wakely I have was born in 1812 to James William Milligan. Can't find anything about a Wakely being born in 1826. The closest I have found is Wakely's son, Anselm, born in 1836. However James was married to a Nancy Johnston, my Wakely's mother.

My grandfather Luther Milligan died from lung cancer but it was caused from working in the coal mines he had what they called black lung disease. My dads oldest sister Mary Lou Milligan had a tumor on the brain which she had successively removed but it left her completely paralyzed she could only move her eyes she died several yrs ago from a stroke. The tumor was cancerous. One of my cousins on the Milligan side had kidney trouble and had to have surgery but I don't know if it was caused from cancer we really didn't have time to talk during our grandmothers funeral it was to hectic but I believe they found tumors on one of her kidneys from bits and pieces I did hear.My uncles were just recently diagnosed with their cancer. There are 12 siblings 11 are still living so far my dad has only had a stroke nothing else and it was just a miner one.I don't know if anyone else has been diagnosed with any other form of cancer other than those 3 siblings and their father. My cousin I'm unsure of.Also found out that on the Milligan side that there is another hereditary problem and has to do with the heart. When you are born you have a hole in your heart well its suppose to close up after a few days after birth well in our family sometimes it doesn't we've already found 2 and the doctors have told us that in our cases its hereditary I didn't know which side it ran on when they told me when they found it in my daughters heart the flap over the hole was to large so it couldn't seal then I found out a yr later that a 2nd cousin of my mine on the Milligan side had the same problem just the opposite her flap was to small and hers was dangerous hers could cause her to have a heart attack according to her grandmother my dads sister and they had to go in there and fix the problem. There is no telling how many more have died from that condition as well.I know that I have a lot of stomach problems and so does some of my other family but they keep telling me that they can't find anything wrong I end up in the emergency room at least every 3 months because the gas pain is so bad I can't function but yet they say there is nothing wrong with me.I'm scared that its a precursor to cancer but I can't get my regular doctor to run tests because I'm so young I'm just 38yrs old.
Michele

Does your family originate from Ireland, that is as far as I can get back to right now(1872). Irish records are very difficult to trace. They were destroyed in a fire many years ago, or so I have been told. If you live there or have BMD documents, it seems to be almost impossible to look back. You can check my public tree if you like. It is called "Our Milligans" There are some pictures, but not a lot of pics from the past. They all have a distinctive nose, which we call the "Milligan Nose" kind of pointed. And unfortunately there is a high rate of bowel cancer in the family.Take a look and let me know what you think, I live in Ontario, Canada.
Thanks for replying, Shirley

Did your family originate from Ireland? That is where my search ended in 1872. It is very difficult to find records, apparently there was a fire and everything was destroyed. So unless you have some documents it is very hard to trace back. Maybe if you live there you can trace church records. If you havent done so yet, check out my tree. It is called "Our Milligans" it is a public tree. My name is Shirley Milligan, I am from Ontario, Canada
Thanks

I know what you mean about Irish records. It has been a very frustrating search. When I saw your first message, I thought, finally, a Milligan with a connection to Antrim, but I guess you are in the same position as I.
I wish you luck in your search. Hope you have better luck than me!!
I have a William Milligan(dob1872) married a Hannah White(dob1873). They went on to have many children, also a William among others..
I have not been able to find a link to who their parents were, but they were from Antrim, Ireland. I believe in Shankhill. I wonder if there is a connection.
If you find out any more info, please keep in touch. I will do the same.

There would be no connection- my William Milligan was definately born in Northern Ireland around 1831 and by 1850 had immigrated to the U.S.

I am finding William was a very popular name it seems for Irish lads- I am sure you have noticed the same.

I believe he arrived alone in 1847 at age 16. Finding records on the Irish side has been just impossible- I have found nothing on that side of things and it's been very frustrating. I know many records in Ireeland were destroyed in fires and the political and religious strife over the years did not help. Church records I am told are the best bet but I've not found many online.

Which one of George's kids are you the daughter of? I have been doing the Milligan family since 1987. I used to be with Donald W. Milligan. I have not been able to confirm that Levina and George were brother and sister yet. But now I have. Since there is such a gap between 1880-1900 it is hard to find. There are so many different places of birth and dates of birth for Geroge. But on his death certificate it lists his birth as 1873 in Tennessee. There is another family member of Greeley Headrick's first wife Mildred who is trying to find something. I found a family in Hardin Co, Tenn.in 1880 but it doesn't list Levina or George so it may not be the right family. I have not been able to find George or Levina as children on any census. On three different states, it list Geroge born in Kentucky,Tennessee,Texas, and Oklahoma. When he was married to Willie it list them as Mixed Breed cherokee born in Oklahoma.on the 1930 census. And on one record that Randy has Mary Molly Brewer married to John W. Milligan before but I never found that. Mary Molly Brewer married Robert A. Bessent III and then she married James A. Matthews. If you have any other information Please let me know. I might have info for you too. Carol
