I am looking for ANY information that might lead me to Wanda Millsap who was the daughter of Delbert Green Millsap (b.1924-d.1992) and Delbert's wife, Evelyn. Delbert and Evelyn were married from some point in time in the late 30's into the 40s when they divorced and Delbert married Pearl Harper. I do not know Evelyn's maiden name or if Wanda might have changed her name. Wanda should have been born in the 1940's sometime. Also, when she was little she went by "Wanda Jo."

ANY information is welcome!!

My ggrandfather was James Henry Millsap (called the Colonel). He and his wife, Flora Ann Bennett, came to TX from Al. in the late 1800s. I've found some info on him. He had several sibs that I'm just now in contact with one of his brother's ggrandsons. The Colonel ended up in east Tx and his nine daughters were 6 of them there and 3 went to west Tx.

James's mother was Matilda Millsap from KY. Have no clue who his father was or what her maiden name was.

Would love to see if anyone on this board might have some info on Matilda W. Millsap.

Thanks so much,

Rhonda Kelley Seymour
rbkellper@sbcgloball.net

1928 obit for Mrs. Dorthulia Hittson Millsap in Texas

Abilene Reporter News
Abilene, Texas
June 10, 1928
Mrs. DORTHULIA B. MILLSAP
Rotan, June 9: Marking the passing of another of the few remaining early day West Texans, the funeral of Mrs. DORTHULIA B. MILLSAP, 64, here Friday afternoon was held by Rev. I. N. ALVIS, Haskell, one of the first ministers to carry on active church work in this section of the state. Rev. WILL PRIDDY, Abilene, pastor of the Highland Home Baptist Church, of which organization the deceased was a member, assisted in the services which were at Rotan Baptist Church. Interment was in Bellview Cemetery. Mrs. Millsap died Thursday night at the home of her only daughter, Mrs. J. R. GREEN, in this city, after having been in bad health for more than a year.

Mrs. Millsap came to Fisher County in 1882 with her husband, R. W. MILLSAP who died in 1904. They arrived three years before the organization of the county. She lived in the country ever since, having been one of the largest marketers of beef cattle during that time.

She was a member of a pioneer family of ranch people. Her father, JOHN HITTSON, a native of Tennessee, came to Texas and settled in Robertson County in 1854. Shortly afterward he moved west and in 1857 helped organize Palo Pinto County and was first sheriff of the county. The pioneering instinct was strong with Hittson and after serving a term as sheriff, carried on in connection with his ranching interests, he established a ranch on Hubbard Creek at a point between where Albany and Breckenridge are now locate. It was at this far advanced outpost of civilization, the farthest west ranch then being operated in this part of Texas, that Mrs. Millsap was born December 7, 1864. Her father operated in Shackelford, Callahan and Stephens Counties for a number of years and about 1870 moved to Colorado. After his death in that state in 1879, his family returned to the Palo Pinto County home and it was there that Mr. and Mrs. Millsap were married May 15, 1882. Immediately following they moved to Fisher County. Mr. Hittson moved to Colorado because of the threats of Indians, with whom he had frequently fought. They had preyed seriously on his cattle.

The funeral was attended by old-timers from several West Texas counties. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. J. R. GREEN of this city; five grandchildren, Mrs. J. C. WATSON of Abilene, Misses DORTHULIA and FRANCES GREEN and HITTSON and JAMES A. GREEN of Rotan; three great-grandchildren, LENA FRANCES and DOROTHY ANN WATSON of Abilene and JOHN ROSS HALE of Rotan.

In addition, four sisters and two brothers are living. They are: Mrs. MARY F. HAYS of Los Angeles, California, JESSE J. HITTSON of Palo Pinto County, Mrs. MARTHA J. CRANMER of Denver, Colorado, Mrs. SALENA V. MOORE of Fort Worth, W. E. HITTSON of Rotan and Mrs. FRANCES BROWN of Denver, Colorado.

Mrs. Millsap had been a member of the Baptist Church for 40 years and was a member of the Rotan chapter of Eastern Star, which order had charge of the services at the grave.

I am Dwight's sister and I can help with some of this information. Our dad, Ronald Julian Millsap, was born on January 26, 1912, and he joined the Army is Georgia when he was 19. He went to Germany during WWII and met my mom, Christine Witzel, there. They had six children together, Richard, Walter, Carolyn, Dwight, Rosemarie, and Barbara. We have a step-sister named Renate Witzel, whose father's name was Edward Shigarra. He died during WWII, while Renate was an infant. My parents arrived in New York in 1948 and moved all over from there, until we finally settled in Long Beach, California.

All of us are 'Army brats' who were born in different countries and states. Renate and Richard in Germany, Walter in Florida, Carol in Georgia, Dwight in Tennessee, Rosemarie in Colorado, and Barbara in California.

My dad died on April 3, 1984 and my mom is still alive and living in Utah.

I would appreciate any help from anybody that could help me find out more about my family tree. I have only begun and not sure where to go from here.

Thanks to all who respond,

Rosemarie Leonard nee Millsap

RLeonard06@gmail.com

I just started on Ancestry.com, so haven't got any history logged on here yet, but I'm excited to know there are others out there!

Right now, I've got some gaps, but have complete info on down from Joseph Millsaps who went to California in 1849.

I have more info being sent to me and will update further then.

Hi! I've been up against a brick wall on my paternal grandmother for a year. Her name, as I have it, is Bertha Milsap. Some say her middle name was Roxy. I haven't found anything on her, until I discovered an obituary. It does not list her parents, but it lists her surviving siblings. They are Arthur Millsap, Golden Millsap, Tom Millsap, Florence Williams, Mary Millsap, and Nettie Holeman. I am researching the siblings' names, and that's how I came across your posting on Melvin Golden Millsap. Golden is a rare name, Melvin is a family name on my dad's side (Duncan), and Perry is also a family name on my dad's side. I bet we're dealing with the same family here. I'll keep looking, and if you have any other info since your posting, let me know. Could be we are long lost cousins!!! I've already found a cousin on my husband's side, and it is very exciting.

If you send me an email with all of the info you have on your Millsap family, i.e. names, places, birth dates, etc. I will get back to you. I do know that I have an aunt Roxy in the family. Roxy is my paternal grandmother's youngest sister. I think they were originally from around Mt. Vernon, AR and ended up around Truman, AR. It may be a while before I can get back to you on all of this because it seems I have a couple of hundred emails piled up in my inbox, but I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Take care,
Rick

Would still love to hear from any and all Millsap family that may be linked with James Henry Millsap, brother of Amos and William (married to Laura Ann Partin). They came to TX from AL in the late 1800s.

Thanks to all.

I have a new name and email address:

Rhonda Kelley Seymour
rbkellper@sbcglobal.net

Would love to hear from anyone that might know of the Millsap family that came to Texas from Alabama in the late 1800s.

Parents were James Henry (the Colonel) and Flora Ann Bennett Millsap. There were 5 daughters born in Al. then 4 more born in Tx.

The girls names were Margie, Sally, Alice, Billie, Ruby, Roena, Minta, Pearl and Auntie (can't remember her name offhand). Their married names were Shelley, Berry, Smith, Hopkins, Long (then Ward), Roderick, Wishert, James, and Loftin.

The Colonel and Flora Ann were my ggrandparents.

After Flora Ann died, the Colonel married a Miss Jennie Shubert (or Shuberg). They were all from Jackson Co., Al. The Colonel and Flora Ann are buried in a cemetery called Rattan that is located in Delta Co., Tx. (this is in east Tx.) Miss Jennie is buried in Jackson Co., Al.

Thanks so much,

Rhonda Kelley Seymour
rbkellper@sbcglobal.net

Charles Leo Millsap and his parents

My grandfather was Charles Leo Millsap, and his wife was Mary Evelyn McGee... I'm trying to trace his parents, Charles Millsap and Lilliam Williams... I do not know where they are from in the US, as my grandfather died before I was born, my grandmother died about 20 years ago, and I have rare contact with my father.
Thank you
