I am helping an 85 year old Detroit born woman find the family of her mother Pearl Melott or Milot born October 27, 1890 in Detroit Michigan. Pearl was given to the Lezotte family when very young. Both families knew each other and in about 1910 Pearl's biological mother paid a visit to the family. Pearl said her father was from Canada (Point Peelie?)

Can someone tell me if the Milot family surname is the same as the Melott family surname?
