I know I am part of this family

I know I AM part of this family, it just seems that while everyone did their research, I was looking everywhere and not finding this site. My father IS Enlow Milan, jr. (with a nickname, more fitting to his nature of Tomcat. Milum got changed in the 1900's to Milan? Not sure that it went all that far from Milam either, by what I have seen. Anyhow, my father is more or less terminal, and I am DESPARATELY searching for answers for his GRANDDAUGHTER, Nikkole, Who seems just as interested in this as me, as her other great grandmother, now deceased, was a historian, and ALL of their family heritage, right back to covered wagons was documented. Anyhow, I know I am going on about this. I have a couple of questions. First, my father has told me that we have Cherokee blood in us. This makes no difference how much, I would like to know for the sake of my daughter and myself. I have heard those "wild Milan" stories of "who know's what we are, there is probably some african american blood in us too." To which I have to ponder, because my father, being the youngest of 11, most of y'all's parents left home and just he and Doris were there, with Enlow sr, and Grandma Annie Mae. (yes, it does say on Enlow srs, tombstone, Gus Milan (my father said his name was Gustav, then I hear him mentioning it was also Enlow, and that he was supposed to have Enlow jr, on his birth certificate but didn't because Mama, Annie Mae birth her babies at home, with a midwife. I have lots of stories to carry from my father. Unfortunately, all we have in common are the stories. We DO NOT get along like family.
I am going to loose this man one day, you only get really one biological father. And we have never had a relationship. My mother was pregnant by him when she was 15, and they got married when she was 16, to give me a name. My father married again, after the 2 year rocky divorce, and had another daughter, Alicia. Alicia, I am told is not involved with her father's roots, or her southern heritage, as I am. She is more in tune with her mother's Russian heritage.

Now that I have got to talking, I feel sorry I took your time. I just want some one in this family to please reach out to me and let me know what our family was like. To fill in the blanks. I also really want to know who the Canady family is, since it has my grandfather in a sitting for a family type picture. Could these people be Annie Mae's people. I am told her people came out of Texas. Please understand, my mother's family in California is dwindling down. I need to know as much about my father as I do about my mother. All that time my father and I lost, cannot be recovered, and he is not long for this world. And as I said before, we don't speak. Thankfully, he has a granddaughter that maintains a relationship with him.

If we are of indian blood, then I more than anyone are proud to have it. If we don't then I will say that I am proud to have learned and lived with the idea for years, after all, my father did tell me some stories. We are NOT on the Dawes rolls. And from what I can see are farmers/sharecroppers. As my father said, We weren't just poor, we were 'po! So, anyone know who this Canady family is? And please, spare me the Bobby Milan stories of "royal english blood, complete with a family crest", because I know we are not that kind of folks. LOL, anyone that knows the name Milan, automatically thinks I am italian. I could lie and say I am, but I know we are not. ANYONE have any hard copy proof? Also there is supposed to be a book somewhere in print??? About us? I would like to have one. I didn't make it to any of the Missippi family reunions. Thank you.

Gus and Annie Mae Milan had 11 children. My father, Enlow, jr. (aka) Tom was the youngest. These people were my grandparents. If anyone likes, I have the name of all the children these 2 bore. What I want to find out about is further beyond Ophelia and George, and certainly Annie Mae.
Does anyone know Annie Mae's maiden name? It would be a start, and would help so much. Thank you.

Re: Getting Started - Milum

Hi Bill. My name at Birth was Dena Milan. My Grandfather was Enlow Milan. Yep, there was a name change. It went from Milum to Milam, and I even saw a site online somewhere (can't find it now), where it had the actual pictures of the gravesites of Ophelia and, there is a question whether it was George Washington, or just George, But, it says George W. Milam. I also saw a very old tombstone, ancient, that just said Milam (also either a Washington or a George), could not read it. Anyhow, My grandfather Enlow, took his wife, Annie Mae Foster to Mississippi, where they had 11 children. My father is Enlow Milan, jr.
His children were Clara or (MayBelle or Mable), still alive in Mississippi, Roy Allen, Robert, Ludie, Elbert, Delvine, Buddy, Bertha, Vernon, Doris and Enlow, jr. (goes by Tom to friends). Only MayBelle and Doris and Enlow are still living. I have pictures of Ophelia, and alot her children, And the names Cora, Pierce, Cleve and Ada really stood out, because they are named on the copy. Ophelia has been said to be 100% Cherokee. Annie Mae was also Native American. I could not tell you what my Grandfather, Enlow looked like, because I don't have a picture. I have been looking and looking online for something, and I can't believe I found kin. Opelia, and her husband are burried in Milan Cemetary, Hickman County, TN. Most of the Milan decendants from Enlow Sr. moved to Mississippi, some of the older ones moved back to Tn, or to Florida. Anyhow, they are all in the south, and it's quite a large group. Sad to say, I don't really know any of them, as I live in California. I have a sister, Alicia who lives in Washington St. And, needless to say, my father and I do not speak. I hope this helps you in your search. Keep in mind, that people from so far back didn't keep good census records, and my father SWEARS the family name was once Milum. Until his father changed it, when he was grown, and moved away. But, it has also been Milam too.

Hello everyone,
There is a new game in town!: the Milam Family DNA Project which includes surnames Mileham, Mylam, Milum, Millam. If you are like me, you want to answer the age old question of how our ancestries are connected. Undoubtedly, they are.

Think about joining in and having a male family member's DNA tested and then compared to our database of DNA test results. Who knows, you just might find some cousins you didn't know you have.

The group's goal is to advance the knowledge of our history & genealogy through DNA testing and analysis. We aim to breakdown old brick walls and solve old questions & old mysteries in our family genealogy. Y-chromosome DNA testing offers exciting new possibilities. Be part of this new quest!
I am looking for information on the ancestry of Sarah Milum Bunton who was born in 1808. She is listed on the 1850 Wilkes County census. She may have married Wiley Bunton, at least they had children, one of which was my great-grandmother Sarah Ann Bunton Potter. Sarah Milum Bunton died at her daughter, Sarah Ann's home in Carter County, TN about 1890. Also need information on Wiley Bunton.

Griffin
4, July 1897
Marshall Springs, Titus Co Tx

the spelling of Murry changes to Murray

Can anybody tie this Milum to their tree?
I believe Bettie is short for Elizabeth.
Approximately 5 yrs after this marriage Bettie died and J.W. Murry married her sister.
Was the sister still a Milum or had she married before? I've never been able to locate a second marriage. Though Laura said she had a half sister named Mary and many brothers. I think one brother may have been named Charles.
If anyone can add to my info it will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Phyllis

Thomas K Milum---Kentucky 1846-Washington 1932

Buried in a pauoer's grave near that of my greatuncle, is one Thomas K. Milum, b. 6 Jan 1846 in Kentucky, the son of James (Jim) and Fanny Milum, both also born Kentucky. Thomas was a widower, but his wife's name is "unknown". He "worked on woods"; was probably a logger. He died of heart disease in the Spokane County Hospital on 19 Feb 1932 and was buried on the 21st in Marshall Cemetery.

It is my intention to place simple markers on the graves of all of the hardworking men who, like my greatuncle, died poor at the height of the Depression and are buried in this same piece of soil. This is not a plea for any help, I'm just also trying to relink these "lost" men with their families.

If Thomas is part of your family, I would be pleased to hear from you.

Jim Boyce
Geneva, Switzerland

Here is the decendancy:
Washington Milum & Ophelia Register had a son;
Guss Enlow Milum & Annie Mae Foster had a son;
Robert Lee Milan & Vesta Louise Hearld had a daughter;
Clara Ruth Milan& Jimmy Emmett Perry had a daughter;
Jeddie Ruth Perry I got to marry her.
The name spelling was changed somewhere around 1925 I have been told. It has Milan on Guss's grave stone although some old pictures I've found said Milum. Several of Washington's decendants live in the Mississippi Delta area around Cleveland
. Do you know where Washington is buried? Bless you too John

Hello,
I found out this week that my wife is a g-g-granddaughter of Washington Milum. Also I found a picture of Pierce Milum and his wife. They appear to be in their 60's at the time.
John
