Hi Joan,

Jan said to tell you Annies baptism date is 25 February 1866 not 1864 as she had in her email.
We have worked out that you and Jan must be second cousins - is that what you think? She has your annie marrying Wilfred Ernest Halifax - is that right? Her John Atkinson born 1871 married Elizabeth Key and they had Jan's mother, so the child that your Annie and Wilfred had, either mother or father, would have been cousin to Jan's mother, hence you and Jan being second cousins. Does that make sense??

Talk soon
Val

Hi Joan,

Have just received your email, you and Jan are certainly in the same family. I've just phoned her but she is out but when I have sorted out what she has I will get back to you. From what i can remember, your Anne and Jan's John must have been brother and sister,so the connection is quite close.
I wonder why you couldn't get the email to work - did you try clicking on it or bringing up an email and typing it in, rather than copy and paste?

I will type ours again and you have another go - bringing up an email would be easier, try typing the address in.

john-val.read@paradise.net.nz

the little thing between read and paradise is the little thing that is on the no. 2 on the keyboard, beats me why it has turned out all squashed like that.!!!

Interesting you are in Canada, Jan and her husband Richard, and John and I both live in Waikanae NZ, on the west coast of the north island, about an hour from Wellington, the capital city. If all else fails, maybe you and Jan will end up writing snail mail! Even if you can get our address to work, that would be something.

Well I must go and make a start on dinner, we've had a big day outside so it is something easy like a stir fry tonight.

Talk again soon
Val

Hi Val,
Could not get valid email addy
Alas, I have no formal online family tree that can be neatley copied
from. I have ended here with
Annie Atkinson, born 1866, who is my great grandmother.
A PS before the end: there is a lot of religious/legal/court
proceedings, connected to this family,(Atkinson) but not within
the immediate family I am presenting. So much mischief & mayham
that I have not looked in this Atkinson direction for a few years. Not
because it wasn't interesting, but because it was all consuming - really
all consuming - I was trapped!

My Atkinson line -

John Atkinson (unknown birthdate or place) & Mary (unknown all)
have this William & others at Girton
William Atkinson, christened May 30, 1798, at Girton, Nottinghamshire,
died before 1851
he married Oct 14, 1829 in Doddington, Lincolnshire
Susannah Mimmack, christened Feb 19, 1809, Doddington, Lincolnshire
her parents were Barnard Mimmack & Elizabeth Rawood
(Rawood spelling seems questionable, but it's on three different
transcribed documents)
William & Susannah have (& others)
John Atkinson, born about 1836, in Fenton, Kettlethorpe Parish), Lincolnshire
he married (Apr May Jun) 1860, Lincoln (district of Lincoln)
Jane Pearce, born about 1835, Darlton, Nottinghamshire
Jane's parents were Joseph Pearce, born about 1802
Nottinghamshire, & Mary ______,
born about 1806, Nottinghamshire
John & Jane have
Annie Atkinson, born about 1866, Ingleby, Lincolnshire

There is an instance (or two) where the John & Jane Atkinsons gets confusing -
where my John and Jane are living with 'his' Uncle John & Aunty Jane, this elder
John being the brother of William, father of my John, husband of Susannah, nephew
of the infamous Rev. Atkinson...., and on...and on...legal stuff...and on....
That is the easy stuff, you can see here why I needed a rest from this name. I thought
I just wanted names to link up in a neet & tidy little file that said family history DONE!
Thats all I can find! Not so tidy as all that.

I am so interested in seeing where Jan fits in here!
Joan, in Canada

Hi Joan,

I must say I am pleased you saw the message too!! Actually, it isn't for myself I placed the query but for a friend who is related to the Mimmack/Atkinson family, I have just been doing a little "delving" for her. My email address is:

john-val.read@paradise.net.nz

and the friend I am helping is:

richardjan@paradise.net.nz

It is Jan who is related to Susannah Mimmack and William Atkinson and their family. As you see we are both in New Zealand, miles away from Doddington and all the other villages mentioned where these families came from. You can either get back to me on my address or talk directly to Jan.

Thank you for answering, Joan, have a happy new year
Regards
Val

Hi,

After much research and verification from Rosemary Ash, we are pretty confident that you are related to us (Frances and Patty) as second cousins. I received a call from a lady (Realtor) in California who called me to inquire whether I knew you and your brothers. What a small world!

From our understanding, when our father (Lincoln) married our mother, your grandfather Howard (Lincoln's brother) and William (Howard's son, your father) apparently did not agree with the marriage and broke communication ties. How unfortunate! We are hoping that you and your family will keep in contact and maybe someday we can meet. If you would like to see what I look like, check out our website: www.am2pmproperties.com. Hope you are doing well!
This is what I found out so far about my father Lincoln Myron Mimmack's family. Lincoln was born in Schenactady NY, on April 15, 1913. His brothers names were Howard, Franklin and George Henry. Sisters names Estelle and Ruth. His fathers name was George Henry Mimmack ( who apparently was a prison warden at Sing Sing prison in New York.)
George Henry's father's name was George Henry and his mothers name was Alice (not sure of the last name)

Also found out that one of my father Lincoln brother had a son by the name of William.
There's a Gloria that comes into the picture too I think? Not sure if she is Williams daughter or Howards daughter?
I also found out that William Mimmack had 7 children.

It is certainly possible that my father had a brother. I was always told that I had cousins in California, however, my father passed away three days after I was born, so I really don't know much. He was born on 4/15/1913 in Schenectady, N.Y. He was in the military (Marines) for 30 years. He also had a first wife (my mother being his second) named Hazel. They had a daughter named Mary Jo who graduated from highschool in 1966 at Fremont Highschool in California.
His fathers' name was George Mimmack. Grandfather on his fathers' side was George Mimmack and his Grandmother was Marion Anthony. His mothers' name was Cara Mimmack. Grandmother was Nora Walker and Grandfather was Franklin Walker. Great Grandfather was Hiram Walker and Great Grandmother was Raymond Walker. He would have been 92 years old. I hope this helps and maybe we are related!

Hi bobbi,I know its been a few years but maybe we can help each other out with this family thing.Your message seems to show that the different familys lived overlaping lives without knowing about each other .I'm the grandson of howard mimmack of upstate ny.He came down from canada. He lived in ny. but trvaled to southern california. He had 7 children 2 boys 5 girls. Both boys lived in so.cal for a while until my father bill moved his 6 boys to santa clara in no.cal.It apears that these two familys didn't know of each other.I'd like to know if your husband knows anything else about his father and his grandfather as these people might be related to my grandfather and his father.By the way for your childrens information Their ancestors where very adventuous and independant, always looking for a better life for there kids. They should be very proud to carry the mimmack name.

rosemary,I've read your messages on the ancestry of the mimmacks and would like to know more about us.It seems from everything written that some members emigrated from england to canada in the mid-late 1800's.Everything on ancestry.com has this comon theme. It seems that the confution comes from diffrent generations having the same first or middle name.If we could find the family that came over first we could put the northamerican side togther. There are lincons, howards, and I know my grandfather's name was howard mimmack of upstate N.Y.He had a brother named lincon.I was told my grandfather came down to N.Y. from Canada but I'm not sure about lincon please contact me at dpmimmack@sandpoint.net

I know your message is a year old but I just found this site.My family history seems to merge with yours through the canada to u.s. move of the mimmack brothers. My grand father and his brother I believe moved from montreal canada to upstate new york. Their names were lincon and howard mimmack,They must have had a brother named arther who you metioned. If indeed this is the connection I think it is it would be great to get some info on that other side.I have everything from my grandfather on down to my but nothing about lincon or arther.

my name is also dan mimmack.I might be able to help you.First a little about myself.I am the grandson of howard mimmack of boston spa,ny.Your grandfather and my grandfather i'm sure were brothers.I believe these two bothers are the only decendants of the family that came over from england. My grandparents had 7 children,5 girls and two boys .Those 7 kids had 32 grand children. The two boys are gorge mimmack of ontario,ca. and my father billl mimmack {diseased}.My uncle george in ontario has the entire history as far back as the16th or 17th centery.I have always known that my grandfather had a brother named lincon but I know nothing about that side of the family. You are aparently the first contact from the lincon side. My father bill settled in santa clara ca.in the late 50"s and raise 6 sons.If lincon lived in san jose right next door we were not aware. All 6 of us are alive today.Marty the youngest is in atusgadaro ca.mathew of san diago, james of texada is.B.C.canada,myself dan of sandpoint ID.mike of san jose,ca.and gene of santa rosa,ca.I came across your message by googling my own name .You can call me at 208-265-5807. I'd be happy to exchange info. thanks dan

I would be very interested to know if you have any information on/about Lincoln Mimmack. I am his grandson (Daniel Richard Mimmack) and son of Richard Lincoln Mimmack. I have heard stories about our family immigrating from Lincolnshire England - but have no specific information on dates. I know very little about my grandfather. I do know that he was raised in Utica, NY, married Roslie Kivilin (my grand mother) and "disappeard" in the late 1930's. I have also learned (through other (MimMack's) that he spent his senior years in San Jose, CA - where he died in the early 1980's. What he did between 1930 and 1980 is still a mystery to me. Any information that you might have would be much appreciated!

I would be interested to learn if you have any knowledge of Helen. I also have a picture of her with my other members of her family taken around 1930.
