Hello, I'm new to this thread but it gave me an idea to locate persons carrying the surname "Mina" born 1975 to present. My roots are from Pangasinan, Philippines. I might get important clues where my stepbrothers or stepsisters are. This link might help. Coz I want to meet them personally whenever and wherever possible. Kindly email me at haneries@yahoo.com. I would appreciate a lot. For some information, My grandfather's name is Federico Alda Mina, Sr., born in Pangasinan in 1912-1915. Thank you.

Re: Mina Family in the Philippines

Hello all,

I'm the father of Pascale Mina, one of the previous posters. My father, Celestino Mina III, showed me a copy of the geneaolgy book compiled by Wexler Mina. Our side of the family tree traces back to Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, where my grandfather, Nicolas Mina, was born. Nicolas later emigrated to Pangasinan (Asingan, to be exact) where he married into the Ignacio family.

Pangasinan has harbored many of the itinerant Luzon Minas since the clan's mini-diaspora. The non-Luzon, non-Ilocano branch can now be found in Cebu and Mindanao (I forget which province).

Two historical tidbits. One of our ancestors plotted with his confreres the assassination of some Spanish administrators at the close of the Spanish centuries. You can read about it in "Ilocano Responses to American Aggression 1900-1901," a book by the late William Henry Scott (New Day Publishers).

Josephine Bracken's daughter by her second husband (a Chinese Cebuano who adopted the surname "Abad") married a Mina from Sampaloc, Manila. One of the Minas from this branch wrote a slim book on Jose Rizal's alleged recantation of his Masonic heritage. In this book, the author (Salvador "Badong" Mina, my grandfather's second cousin) mentioned the Bracken-Mina connection. Only a few copies were printed, one of which was found quite by accident by my wife in a book sale. Unfortunately, that copy was destroyed by termites. I remember, though, mentioning the book to Wexler Mina when he visited the house.

Trivia. There's a Mina of some international fame, but I don't think she's related, given that "Foch" (if it proves true) is the real name of the Minas. Her name's Denise Mina, a well-known, awarded British author of psychological suspense novels. There's also that famous chef, Michael Mina. But he's not Filipino.

Cheers.

The copy that I have came from the great Mr Wexler & Conrad Mina. They were the ones who started it all.

According to them, Mina came from 2 possible clans, Rosendo & gabriel mina. Rosendo is an ex-priest and possibly the one who has the name of Fr. Foch, and just changed his name to Mina after marrying a Filipina Maria Manlapuz. they are from Tagudin Ilocos Sur. The other is Gabriel Mina.

My father came from Asingan, pangasinan but his father camne from tagudin, Ilocos Sur.

We might have the same copy.

I want to ask if Mina really is our actual surname. My father once mentioned to me that our real surname was "Foch" or "Faulk" or something similar to those, my memory is foggy.

Hello Joseph, how are you? Thanks for sharing your list with another people, that is very kind of you. As far as I can go in my tree I don’t have anybody from Philippines, but there might be a possibility that your tree and mine becomes one somewhere... so here is what I have from my family, and please let me know if you think your tree and mine have things in common. That might happen if your family came from Italy to America.

PASCUAL MINÁ was born in Italy about 1850. He got married (in Italy) with Catalina (I don’t know her surname), she was born about 1850. I don’t know when they came to Argentina, but that might had happen in 1876 or later. My family believes that they were from Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy.

Sons of PACUAL MINÁ and CATALINA are:
-BRUNO MINÁ was born in Italy about 1872.
-ANTONINO MINÁ was born in Italy about 1876.
-they might had have other sons and daughters that I don’t have any records.

ANTONINO MINÁ was born in Italy about 1876, he got married (in Italy or Argentina) with ROSARIO FILARDI who was born about 1878. She was the daughter of PEDRO FILARDI and MARIA (I don’t know her surname). ANTONINO MINÁ was a carpenter.

Sons of ANTONINO MINÁ and ROSARIO FILARDI are:
-PASCUAL MINÁ was born on October 15th 1908 in San Salvador de Jujuy (Argentina). He died on October 10th 1967 in Buenos Aires (Argentina).

Pascual Miná was my grandfather. That is how far away I can go with my family tree. I will appreciate any information you think that might help me in my search for my roots in Italy. Thank you very much, Emilia.

Hi Joseph, I'm glad I came across your email. I might have the same list. My uncle Abraham Mina got a copy from Conrado Mina about 4 yrs ago. But I don't have an updated list. Maybe we can work together. I know that our ancestors came from Spain but not sure how we are related. My understanding is that some of the documents have either been destroyed by fire, floods, and war. I have have been working with Sam Orpilla too, since we are 4th cousins under the Vergara family tree and there are some Mina's relatives there. My great-grandfather is Andres Mina. Send me an email at mxedgerton@aol.com.

Regards,

Marlyna Mina Ayson-Edgerton

Dear Joseph:

Several years ago we attended a reunion of the Mina Family. There was this man who traced most of the Minas in the Philippines and got them together at the QC Eliipitical Circle. My father communicated with him, he looked like he has very strong Spanish blood in him. They arrrived at the conclusion that the Mina family came from this Iberian priest who married a native of Tagudin, Ilocos Sur. My father traced his ancestors and gave him a copy of his ancestral roots. When I go home to the Philippines, I will try and find my father's notes. He died in 2003. It is a good thing I came across this post, I discovered that his name is not on the Social Security list of deaths. Please email me that list, I believe my father's list is incoporated in it. Thanks

It was the late Great Mr. Wexler C. Mina Sr who started it and continued by (I think) his brother Conrad C. Mina, Sr. Yes, you are correct, the reunion was held at Quezon memorial Circle in Quezon City.

The last time I sent email to Mr. Conrad, they were already in Canada. I became interested to email him when my father died and saw the letter from Mr. Wexler. The Mina clan started in tagudin Ilocos Sur by Rosendo mina, an ex-priest, and Maria Manlapuz. they had 2 sons, Valentin and Antonio. they had children also, and emigrated to Villasis, pangasinan, la Union, Abra and the United States. And so on...

He gave me a diskette copy of the Mina Family tree, problem it was corrupted. Sorry for those who requested for a copy, but I am trying to rebuild it with the hard copy he gave me. Please give me your father's name and some family members and I'll check if it's in the hard copy.

regards,

Joseph R. Mina (Asingan, Pangasinan and Pag-asa, Quezon City)

"The only treasure that comes free in the world is our relative. We are lucky to have thousands of them." - Conrado C.
Hi Joseph! I really don't know much about my family tree. I am a Mina and I know as much as we're originally from some Ilocos, Philippines. My dad's family can be found in Baguio City now. His middle name is Bautista. And that's as far as I know.
We have a family reunion coming up this December in Baguio. I'd really like to see what you've got. I'd appreciate anything... maybe someone in my family may know who you have on your tree.
