Maria Minar & Johann Liska

Hi,

My 4x great-grandmother was Maria Minar, who was probably born in the early 1800s. She married Johann Liska. Their son Bartholomaeus Liska was probably born in the 1820s to early 1830s. He married Katharina Blazicek, who was born in 1833. I believe they lived in what is now the modern-day Czech Republic. If anyone has any info. on their ancestors, siblings, descendants, please respond.

Thank you,
Kat
I don't see any connection. Joseph E Minar or Miner was born in 1850. There are different surnames like Murtaugh and Lee involved with the Minar family. Still putting it all together. Glen A. Minar and Guy S. Minor were sons of Joseph E. Minar. Good luck.

Hi Ed! I am also related to Edwin S. Minar through his son Henry. Edwin's father was Jacob Minar from Sharon, Schoharie Co., NY. A very good Minar researcher, Dave W. found the connection by tracing Jacob's probate records. He also found that Jacob Minar's father was Christian Minar (Myndert, Meinert, Meinhart) by examining one of Jacob's brother's probate records. Christian also lived in Schoharie Co., NY and is described as being from Hanover. I don't know how much you have on Edwin, but he was married twice, first to Eunice Neff, and second to Mary McClure. I have a photo of Edwin and one of Mary. Edwin and Eunice had three children that I know of, Joseph, Henry, and an older daughter. I have a copy of Mary McClure Minar's obituray that names her children and step-children. I also have a copy of Guy Minar's obituary (I noticed in one of your message boards that you said you don't have it, it's in the Albert Lee Tribune, Monday, Nov.?, 1955). Edwin was born in NY, lived in Indiana for a short period, Wisconsin for a short period, moved to Minnesota, and then to Iowa. According to Dave W., Edwin and Eunice were married Sept 19, 1847. (Dave, if you ever read this, I'd love to get your source on this!). I haven't been able to find Edwin in the 1850 or 1860 census, (if anyone has, please send me a copy, or at least a page number!), but I have found him in the 1770 and 1780 census. Do you know Joseph's birthday? He was the youngest of Eunice and Edwin's children and there is a chance Eunice died in childbirth, so knowing Joseph's exact birthday may help find Eunice's death record (or not).

Hope this helps, I'd love to compare notes with you!

SK
Thanks Ed. Since 2003, I have had research done in Germany on our Meiners, and have found the descendants in Minnesota. The only one I have not found descendants for is Heinrich Joseph "Joseph" Meiners. He signed the death certif. for his mother in 1923 at Barron County, Wis. and his residence was R.R. , Clayton, Wisconsin. Maybe he never married.

Betty

I have begun a DNA Surname Project for names which might be variants of each other. Part of the purpose is to find out which names are variants and part of the purpose is to discover which lines are related to each other.

This study requires a male donor with an ALL MALE lineage back to the earliest known ancestor.

mtDNA (through the mother's lineage) is welcome, but these investigations need to have specific goals. I will be happy to help anyone design a comparison study for female lineages where it is possible to do so. Donors may be male or female but their lineage BACK must be ALL FEMALE

NO mixed gender lineages can be analyzed with DNA (i.e., you're female, your father was a MINAR)

Interested parties should email me for more information. Thanks and hope to hear from you soon!

William Minar born 8-31 1791 died 11 27 1844 buried in East Cooper Cemetery, Cooper Twp., Kalamazoo, Michigan. His cemetery record indicates that on that same lot is buried "child of Jack". I have good records of William and his descendents but WHO IS JACK? Any help will be appreciated. My borther is named Jack but for what ancestor. The tree goes down from William to Alexander, to Willard, to Alex to Jack. Thanks.

Re: Minar Surname

My maiden name was Minar (I made it my middle name). I am related to a George Minar who was a photographer in New Prague, Minnesota. He was my great uncle. I have a Minar ancestor tree going back to the 1600s. Our family came from Novosedly nad Nezarkou, in southern Bohemia, now the Jihocesko region of Czech Republic. Novosedly is north of Trebon. The surname Minar is a variation of Mlynar, which means miller. There is a diacritical mark (caret) over the "r" giving it a "zh" sound.
