I am looking for any information about Franklin Miner or his family. He was born in "French Canada" in 1817. He married Juliett (native of NY,b.1822) and had 3 children in NY (Franklin, Juliet and Eugene) before moving to California in the Gold Rush and having 3 more children (Mary, Martha and Abraham).
Family oral history is that his name was Minier and he changed it when he came to California. He died in Placer county, CA in 1873, and his widow Juliett died in Browns Valley, CA in 1886.
I can find them in the California census 1860 and later, but cannot seem to find any records in NY or Canada.
Mary

Hello Ken. It's been quite a while since I've been to this site. I had to respond here because I don't have your e-mail address. I believe your right. Herbert and my Grandfather Frank were brothers. Herbert was grown and out of the house when my Grandfather was born or at least quite young, So I guess they never knew each other. There must have been a situation there that I'm not aware of. My Grandfather never talked about his family much. Only on a few occasions. I know his father was a barber in Palo. My Grandfather married my Grandmother(Marietta Higbee) about 1920. They had one son,my father Frank W.(Jim) . He, in turn, married my mother,Leora Weber(of Greenville Mi.). And they had 2 sons. Me and my brother Terry R. who still lives in Ionia and no is/was never a Grand Rapids football coach. If you want to continue on my e-mail is jwminier@chartermi.net.

Hello Lisa:

We are related as distant cousins, I know that Darius did die in Calf. and is buried in Clarsville (Old Morman Tavern) cemetery in el Dorado CA. Elizabeth tried one last time to get a civil war pension in April 14, 1917. I have a date for her death listed as 07 July, 1923 but I can not be positive of that date. I have no information on Elizabeth's parents.

Do you know about Darius's civil war service? I have researched 13 of the Miniers that served, 7 of Darius's brothers served. If you are interested in what he did, let me know your snail mail or e-mail address and I can send you a copy of what I have researched.

Also, you should contact Ronricki Adams as she is working to get a stone for Darius's grave. You two are closely related. ronricki@yahoo.com.

My connection is that my Grandmother was Edith Fancis Minier who's father was Lawrence Minier.

I have located several decendants of the civil war Miniers and if you are interested I'll pass that information along.

Benny Nasser
719-488-3189

Randal,

You're quite welcome. I wish you well in your search. I was at the Family History Center near me today and came up with some birth and death certificates on family members I have been looking for. I went into HeritageQuest.com and searched the US census reports for certain years, then I searched records in Chicago, Illinois Cook County where some of the Miniers lived and came up with 9 I had been looking for. If you do not have a Family History Center near you, you can go to the public library and they'll connect you with HeritageQuest.
Best of luck. Richard

Thanks Bill,
This helps a great deal.. I couldn't find any information on Henry's middle name. I'm glad to know that it is BAIRD. I don't know anything at all about the Miniers.

Just a correction.. I spent a long time on the Ayer and Crumb lines and I can say with certainty that.. Joseph Crumb was Herbert Densmore Crumb's FATHER and Harriet clark was Herbert's mother. Herbert and Mary (Maime) Minier's children were Elizabeth, Harriet, and Edward.

Mary Minier's parents were Henry B. Minier and Julia Ann Ayer. Julia's last name is often reported as Ayre or Ayers, but it is Ayer. Her parents were Mary Dean Titcomb and Elbridge Gerry Ayer. They are of the Ayers of Haverill, MA..
All of the people mentioned here are Burried in Harvard, ILL There is a large Ayer monument there.

Searching for information on Elizabeth Reed born in 21 June, 1844 in Navarre, Stark County, Ohio. She Married my Great Great Grandfather Darius Minier on 22 September, 1864 in Ottawa, Putnam County, Ohio. We know Darius died May 18, 1915. We are just not sure were nor do we know when or where Elizabeth died. We do know that she spent time out in California in the Folsom area, approximate time frame was from 1908 to 1915 at least. Trying to find out if perhaps she was staying with a relative? Brother or Sister? We know her parents were born in Pennsylvannia but do not know there names or the names of her siblings. Any help in finding information would be appreciated. Thanks for any assistance Lisa Andrews
