Unfortunately, my father Ken passed away from lung cancer over 3 1/2 years ago at age 57. I have just been searching online for his name and came accross these postings. I will do my best to get a copy of that photo of Marie-Louise Denomme from my aunt Mary Ellen.

I believe there is more than one John Mino.
The Canadian Census from 1871 shows one of Irish Descent and one of German.

John Kirk Mino was born December 3, 1862 and was my Great Grandfather. He is in the 1871 Ontario Census (age 9) and the 1901 Ontario Census (age 38). His son William John Mino, born 1885, was my grandfather.

My paternal DNA is of Angle-Saxon origin, not Italian.

John Mino came from Italy. I know for a fact he is Italian.
I have photocopies of official records showing country of origin as John Mino entered the USA.

In the Canadian, Ontario Census of 1871, James Mino (60) was living with Maryanne Mino (40) and the head of the household, I believe was Maryanne's mother Margaret Kirk.
The Mino children were: Maryanne (15), Annie (13), Charlott (11), John (9)(my great grandfather), Matilda (7) and Louisa (5).

Does anyone know the country of origin of "Mino"? the census says the were of Irish origins, though they were born in Ontario, Canada. Corruption of Irish Minnough?

I am also interested in this Charlotte Wurtz, and without being aware of your posting created a web page mentioning her, at http://library.uwinnipeg.ca/people/dobson/genealogy/ff/Wurts..., in 2004, which I have just updated to cite the Denison marriage, among other things. I don't know what grounds there may be for calling her Caroline, but I have found 5 contemporary documents calling her Charlotte. In my page, I discuss the circumstantial evidence for the possibility that she was a daughter of Morris Wurts and Phoebe Warner, of Chinguacousy Township, Peel County. The main objection to this hypothesis is that he would have been barely 18 at Charlotte's birth unless her age in census records is exaggerated.

I have read your message to a person looking for Marie Louise Denomme(Mino) and she happens to be my great grandmother. She married John Mino born between 1857-1862 in Piedmont Italy. They lived and raised their children in Holyoke Massachussetts USA. Childrens names were George, Albert, Emile, Ben (Belanie) Ida, Henry and Florence. My grandmother is Ida. The family moved to Cobalt Ontario Canada around 1912. I am very interested in this picture since I do not have any of her. Sorry took so long to answer, but no I don,t think there is. My father John Mino only has 1 brother. Arthur Mino. Originally from Manhattan, New York. Arthur moved to Philly. I've been told our name started out as Minot from France, then immigrated to Italy where the T was dropped. Thanks for responding wish you luck in your search. Haven't had any in mine.Yet.

Also, Leonard MINO and Sarah Gifford's parents were born in New York and New England. Want to find when Leonard and Sarah went to Canada or if it was their parents who moved to Canada? His father was Edward MINO and mother was Sarah SCOTT. Does anyone have connections that suggest relationship to these names. Leonard and Sarah arrived in Illinois, USA about 1861. (SCOTT may not be correct because penmanship is difficult to read.)

Leonard married Sarah Ann Gifford (b. March 18, 1830)(d. April 4, 1883) Sarah is buried at the Lester Township Cemetery near Dunkerton IA.
Leonard and Sarah are the parents of the following children:

Lorinthia Ellen Mino (b. 1862)(d. Feb. 14, 1907 in Waterloo, IA.) Married William Henry Hurd. Buried in the Elmwood Cemetery in Waterloo, IA. Blk E, Lot 98.

Nettie Bell Mino (b.Aug. 26, 1867)(d.Sept. 20, 1869) Buried in the Lester Township Cemetery.

Hiram Mino (Nettie's twin) (b. Aug. 26, 1867)(d. March 1878) Buried in the Lester Township Cemetery.

The headstone is still standing in the Lester township Cemetery. There is no headstone on Lorinthia grave. She is buried next to her husband (William).

Other information: From the book titled" Cemeteries of Blackhawk County 1854-1982" located at the Grout Museum in Waterloo, IA.
Lester township Cemetery:
Lot #82 purchased by L. Mino, farmer in Benning township. He was born in Canada in 1835.

Mino in Piemonte

I am looking for anything on the ancestry of Dominica Mino who married Domenico FONTANA in 1836 in Chiaverano near Ivrea in the Torino district.
Domenica was born 3 April 1819 to Pietro Mino and Maria GASTALDO BRAC; Pietro was the son of Battista Mino and Lucia RAVERA.
Does anyone have any information on these people?

Stan: We have been searching for a number of years to find where my Husband's greatgrandfather came from in Canada. His name is Leonard and he married Sara Gifford in Haldimand County 1853. Oral history says his mother was French-Indian. We cannot read her name. It starts with S. We always heard his father was Edward but later in life he has it on a marriage registry as John. He had a son, William, born in Canada. Do any of these names fit into your family? Never heard of a Mary Catherine before. Catherine

Hi Meredith,
I do not know for sure exactly where the family originated but I do know that they were up in Canada in the late 1800's. I have found many with the name John and George but have not been able to esyablish a direct link as yet. Anything is possible I suppose as I do know that in coming over from Europe alot of them did shorten their names for some reason. I am continueing my research though and will keep everyone updated as to my findings. I notice alot of Mino's on the Social Security listings as well. You may wish to check that out in time.

Hi Jack,
Yes my Father always told me the very same thing, that our name is French Canadian. Pretty funny, all the other times of course it was Italian when it had to be. Any history of your relatives working with their hands such as Shoemakers, Blacksmiths, or Jewellers or the like, just wondering.
My Grandfather George was born in 1890 not sure exactly where. Am checking up on the denomm'e name now I think that may be his mother's maiden name. Thanks for the reply

Was just thinking. Am not quite sure exactly who was the father, I know for sure it was not George, Ben, or Henry. Could have been Albert who may have been the leader of the pack so to speak and the shoemaker, John may have been another brother.

Hello All,
We have a family photo from the early 1900's.
Names on the back are George,Henry,Ben,Marie Louise"denomm'e",albert,John,Ida,Flourence. George is my Grandfather. Henry, Ben, Albert,are brothers Father is John. I think the Mother is Flourence and sisters are Ida and Marie Louise, but am not sure. My Father Lucien was born in 1919 in Cobalt Ontario. Am pretty sure Ben ended up in Florida and ran a fishing- touring boat. Great Grandfather,John, was a Shoemaker in Ontario to the best of my knowledge. Grandfather George was born in 1890, not sure where, probably in Canada as well. Father Lucien and his Father George moved to Michigan in the late 20,s -early 30's.
Anyone recognize any of these names, let me know.

came to ecuador from colombia, one of them stayed in otavalo, the other went to quito and the last one to ambato, the name of the one in otavalo was abelardo, that will be about 1890.

I have a picture which was taken in the early 1900's. The names on the back of this picture are
George,Henry,Ben,Marie Louise"denomm'e",albert,John,Ida,Flourence
I only know of my Grandfather George who migrated to Michigan in the 1920's, and of Ben who moved to Florida. I have not had any luck pursueing the others. Albert may even be the name of my Greatgrandfather as his name appears next to Marie which I beleive is the mother. Kinda difficult trying to figure out just who is who. Was you mother's maiden name Mino? Where was she born and raised? My relatives came from Ontario. Dad was born in Cobalt in 1919.

Thanks for responding, John. I'm not very optimistic of a connection with us. Is it possibe your great-grandfather John William (b 1862) was a brother to our Mary Catherine (b 1855)? The fact that Mary Catherine's father was a John (b 1812 m 1840 d 1887) suggests a remote possibility. I wish we knew of some locations of the events we are aware of.

I am the grand-daughter of Marie-Louise Dénommé. Ken Mino wrote that a Marie-Louise Dénommé was in one of his family picture. It could be her and her name on the back of his family picture. She was born on Dec. 11, 1902 in the province of Quebec. She married Patrick Laporte in 1919 in Quebec and left him in 1941 and never returned. It is believed that she went to Ontario, does anyone in the Mino Family know anything about her. I wrote to Ken but did not yet receive an answer. I am looking for the place and date of her death. My Grandfather John Mino was born in Norval, Ontario near Toronto, Canada. He was born in 1886. He had a brother Thomas. In Canadian Census for Ontario, there are a number of Mino's with Irish and German back ground. THe Irish could be Norman Irish, when the Norman's invaded England in 1066, many Normans went opver to Ireland and were readily accepted because of the comon religion of Roman Catholicism.

My Grandfather, William John Mino was born in Guelph,(near Toronto), Ontario around 1887 and died in 1934. We don't know much about him since he died when my father John William was 15. His father was John William Mino and came from Chinguacousy Ontario and was born around 1862. My grandfather had a brother Thomas who, as of 1934 was in London, Ontario. Check out the 1871 Ontario Census I saw a George who was 16 in 1871 living in Esquesing.
What I have fount interesting about our last name is that growing up I was always told it was Frence Canadian. It seems that Ontario is an "English" teritory and not many French. THe 1871 Ontario census lists origins as: Irish (Could be Norman Irish), German and English. Let me know what else you may find

My grandfather was a printer. As I said I didn't find any Italian Mino in the Ontario census. My mother was Irish so they use to say the real name was Minough but it was changed at the immigration desk.

My Grandfather was William John Mino born in the last 1880's -1890s in Norval. His father was John William Mino born 1862 who was married to Adeline Anderson. They are both burried in Guelph. My grandfather had a brother Thomas and two sisters. I only know the married names of the sisters, Mrs. Pembelton and Mrs. Greenfield. Who were both alive and living in London Ontario, when my grandfather died in 1934. Relation?
