I am seeking information on Chana Fields Minor, my gggrandmother, who married Alfred Minor, son of Zachariah Minor, sometime between 1847 and 1867. Alfred and Chana had at least 8 children: Freeland, Mary, John, Evan, Noah, Lona, Baxter, and Gilford, all from Hancock County, TN. Chana was born in Dec 1834 and died in 1905? I do know that Alfred's brother, John, married Arminta Goins.

I recently obtained an 1812 bible with family records, mostly deaths, by one Garry Minor. Some basic research shows that a marriage between a MinOR and a MinER occurred in this family.
Surnames listed are Allen, Atwater, Carrington, Hollister, Judson, Miner, Minor, Mitchel, Nichols, Root.
Most of the individuals were born in Woodbury, CT, but there are deaths recorded in San Francisco, CA and Waterbury CT.
Anyone interested in further details on this bible, please feel free to contact me by e-mail.
Minor Family (Richmond Co, VA to Baltimore, MD)

I am searching for descendents of the Reuben and Melissa Minor family. In 1880, Melissa was living in Richmond Co, VA with her family (Reuben was deceased). She moved to Baltimore around 1882 to live closer to her sister, Nancy. Her teenage and most of her adult children also relocated. Their names were Charles H. Minor, Benjamin William Minor, Edward Minor, Ella Jane Minor, Philip Henry Minor, and Robert Minor. Charles was already married at the time of the move, but most of the others married in Baltimore. If any of these names seems familiar, please respond. I am interested in sharing information. Thank you.

I am searching for information regarding my grandfather's parents. My grandfather was Manley Braker Minor, born 1878, parents Lewis (T.?) Minor and Barbara Sophia Epperly Minor. He was the sixth of 11 or 12 children. Some names of siblings are Joshua T., Wio, Bunker, Stella, Alice, Josephine. I have an obit of Lewis but it is sketchy and I haven't been able to find a death cert in Kansas, although he is supposed to have died in Topeka in the summer of 1911. He was buried in Huntsville MO., as was his wife, who died in 1923. Any help sincerely appreciated.

Elizabeth White Carter Minor obituary

Elizabeth White Minor [TMSI #10868]
Newspaper unknown (From Aunt Lou’s scrapbook)
Date unknown (died March 16, 1906)

Died at the home of her niece, Mrs. Edna M. Carter, in Prairieville, Pike county, Mo., on the morning of Friday, March 16, 1906, Mrs. Elizabeth White Minor, relict of Samuel Overton Minor, aged 82 years and 20 days.

She had suffered for several months with heart trouble, which caused her to have miserable nights, as she could only sit in a chair and sleep, but in the daytime she was comfortable and very cheerful – a real sunbeam in the home.

On Thursday night her suffering was intense, the physician relieved her some and at three o’clock a.m., she felt better and lay back on her pillow, we hoped to rest, and oh! what a blessed rest it was, for she closed her eyes in sleep and awoke in Paradise. Loving hearts and hands spared no trouble in caring for and attending to her during her sickness.

In her long life many trials and hardships had been her portion, but she bore her cross so meekly and was so cheerful and full of hope that she was a comfort and help to all those who came in contact with her. Her sojourn in Prairieville of less than two years had made her a host of friends and they proved it by their attention and loving kindness to her in the sickness – so many would come in to see her and would say “Aunt Lizzie’s happy and cheerful days make me feel better and more contented with my lot.” As a Christian, her lamp was kept trimmed and burned brightly and it may be said of her “Well done, good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”

She was born in Clarksville, Mo., in 1824, and was the daughter of Mr. John R. Carter, one of the first merchants of that town, and Miss Ann Jeans. Her early life was spent in Clarksville and there she married S. O. Minor in 1841. After living awhile in Prairieville, they moved to Louisiana, Mo., where they lived until a few years after her husband’s death in 1880, when she followed her children to Nebraska. Louisiana was again her home with her son, P.C. Minor, and her daughter, Mrs. D. A. Ball, for a few years. For the last eighteen months, she has been with Mrs. Carter in Prairieville and at that place she passed away and entered into the rest prepared for God’s people.

Eight children were born to them – three of whom have gone hence, and were waiting and watching for her on that shining shore. Of those living are Mrs. A. M. Weir of Springfield, Ill., Mrs. C. M. Fry of Canada, Mrs. D. A. Ball of Louisiana, Mo., John L. Minor of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. L. A. Dorrington of Manila, Philippine Islands. There are fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She also had living one sister, Mrs. John Heizer of Mexico, Mo., and one half-sister, Mrs. Cordella Rubey of Clinton, Mo.

I haven’t the pen of a “ready writer” when I try to recount all the beautiful traits of this dear Christian woman’s character. Like Nathaniel of old, there was no guile in her nature. Loving and kind to all and a helping hand held out to those in trouble, always bright and never murmuring even when suffering, but she knew in whom she believed and her faith and trust in Him were perfected by her sufferings. Prayer was her daily solaces in which she carried her cares and sorrows to Him who knows our needs.

When quite young she and her husband united with the Methodist Episcopal church, south, and from that time until her death, her piety was marked. She loved her church and her great pleasure was to attend its services.

Saturday, March 17, her remains were taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. A. Ball, in Louisiana, and on Sunday to the Centenary church where a beautiful service and an appropriate sermon by the pastor, Rev. E.D. Watson, was preached. Then the many relatives and friends followed the remains to the Louisiana cemetery. There we left her in that earthly bed – sleeping the sleep that knows no waking on earth but with a sure hope in hearts that “some day” we will meet her in a “better land.”

To the children and friends goes out the sympathy of our sorrowing heart who had loved her long and may the Dear Master give us grace and strength to follow on and join her in the world above.

L. H. A. M.
Ada Marshall Minor Minor obituary

Ada Marshall Minor Minor
Newspaper unknown (From Aunt Lou’s scrapbook)
Date unknown (died September 10, 1906)

At her home in Pike county, Mo., on the 10th of September, 1906, at four o’clock a.m., Mrs. Ada M. Minor, wife of S. O. Minor, “passed away” to her Heavenly home in the 59th year of her age.

She was the daughter of Garrett Minor and Henrietta McClannahan and was born in Prairieville, Pike county, June 18, 1849. Married to Samuel O. Minor, Feb. 10, 1869. Thirteen children were born to them. Two little infants and a daughter, Edna Overton, in her young girlhood, preceded her to the grave and were waiting to welcome the mother at the portals of “Jerusalem The Golden.”

Of the ten children who survive her, three are married and have homes of their own, Mrs. Will Reid, Claude O., and Mrs. Harry Lewis. Etta, Sam O. Jr., and Walton are away at work, while Ida, Sue P., Carter and Marshall are at the old home with the dear old father, who is sore stricken by this heavy loss. They were a devoted couple.

Ada Minor was a true, noble woman. Principle was her guiding star and she never swerved from what she thought right. Her home was her “kingdom” and there she reigned with love and justice which showed the strength of her character. A devoted wife, mother and friend and as a neighbor she had the love and confidence of all around, for in sickness and sorrow, her hand and heart was with them.

Her sickness which extended over five months (heart trouble and other complications) caused much suffering which she bore with patience and fortitude and her resignation and calmness, when she knew her end was near, was beautiful and refreshing to witness. Her greatest regret in dying was leaving her “baby boy,” who is sore afflicted, and to whom she had ministered so untiringly through his fifteen years.

She was laid to rest in St. John’s church yard on Monday afternoon Rev. Wm. A. Bibb and Rev. J. K. Brennan officiating. Many friends were present to pay their last tribute of love and respect. Mrs. Lewis Minor from Hannibal and Mrs. Ruth Stark of Frankford were down for the occasion.

Her body rests beside her daughters and grandchild, but the spirit has returned to the God who gave it.

Oh, may her pure good life and example be ever before the eyes of her husband, children and friends and that they may live that when The Master calls they may meet her in that
“Sweet and blessed country
The home of God’s elect.”

“The graves grow thicker and life’s ways
more bare, as years go by;
Nay, thou hast more green gardens in thy
care and more stars in the sky.”

Her loving aunt,
L. H. A. Minor
Prairieville, Mo., Sept. 12, 1906
Searching for parents of James M. Minor. Any information on this line would be most appreciated

I am a descendant of Lula Minor, daughter of James M. Minor and Frances Ida (Johnson) Minor. The family resided in Plum Branch and Bordeaux. Other children of James and Frances were: William Rufus, Henry C., Maud Vernon, and Eva H. I suspect that James may have been a son of William and Eliza Minor (and William may have remarried a Sarah between 1860 and 1870)
I just uncovered a pair of 18th century silhouettes of a husband and wife. The back of the woman's silhouette is inscribed: "Ann Minor (or Minot?) of Boston married Nathaniel Grant." The back of the man's silhouette is inscribed: "Nathaniel Grant who married Ann Minor in Jamaica W.I. father of Nath. Fitch Grant and Mary Fitch Grant." Does anyone have genealogy relating to these silhouettes?

POW/MIA Korean War, MINOR

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Rapides Parish, Louisiana as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier:JOHN N MINOR
Born: Jan 28, 1932, Black
Date of loss: Feb. 1, 1950, MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Minor family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Alice Minor Thornton Brown DOB 1882. DOD estimated during years 1921-1930.

Seeking information on Alice Brown, DOB 1882 probably in Fayette County, TX.
She was my grandmother’s older half-sister.
Name is given on the 1920 Federal census as Alice, but my aunts insist it was not that, and in fact on the census record itself it looks like something else (although it begins with an "A" and was transcribed as Alice).

The 1920 census lists her as Alice Thornton, widowed, living in Davilla, Milam county.
Children Era, Louis, Vittoria, Charlie, and Lucy.
We do not know her husband’s first name.

We believe her last child was Charles Alfred Brown, born in Burleson County on 11/18/1921.
Again, we do not know her husband’s first name or where she was buried.

We think she died between 1921 and 1930.
In 1930 her son was listed as living with his grandmother, Hattie Johnson, on the Milam census.
The Thornton girls lived with my grandmother, Ella Minor Hughes, and her family in Milam County.

I did find an Alice Brown listed in the Burleson county probate records between 1911 and 1922, but do not know if that is the same person.

Any help would be appreciated.

James Miner/Minor - Ontario

Hi there:

I am having quite bit of difficulty finding the ancestors of my gg grandfather JAMES MINOR born 1837. He seems to have drifted into the Township of Canborough (Haldimand County), Ontario prior to 1871, married Sarah Swick, had seven children, and then disappeared by 1881. Census searches show no ancestors for James in the whole county. If someone knows where this guy is coming form, I would be eternally indebted to know it :-) He is enumerated under the spelling "Minor" but his son James Allen has taken the spelling "Miner" and it has stuck with his descendants ever after that. Here are his stats:

James Minor, b. abt. 1837 (origin unknown), d. (date unknown), m (date unknown) to:

Sarah Swick, b. abt. 1838 Canborough (Haldimand County), Ontario to parents Joseph and Mary Swick.

1871 and 1881 Census of Ontario puts them in Canborough (Haldimand County), Ontario however by 1881 James Miner is missing as the "head of the household" and his 21 year old son Asa (Acy) is listed in this role in his stead.

Their children:

1.) Malissa Miner/Minor, b. 1859
2.) Acy Miner/Minor, b. 1861
3.) James Allen Miner/Minor, b. 9 November 1857 (could be later)
4.) Emma Jane Miner/Minor, b. 1864, m Cicero Rozell
5.) Henry Miner/Minor, b. 1866
6.) Penelope Miner/Minor, b. 1868
7.) John Wesley Miner/Minor, b. August 1870, d. abt. 1872

#3.) James Allen Miner, b. 9 November 1857, d. 7 October 1934.

Married Lizzie May Walters, b. Marysville, Yuba County, California on 27 March 1861, d. Victoria, British Columbia on 18 May 1954.

Their eight children almost all born in North Dakota:

1.) Adda Eileen Miner, b. 1888
2.) Walter Miner, b. 1890
3.) Nora May Miner, b. 1892
4.) Mary Gertrude Miner, b. 1894
5.) Francis Elizabeth Miner, b. 1897
6.) Harry Thomas Miner, b. 1900
7.) Edna Florence Miner, b. 1901
8.) William James Miner, b. 1904 in Stoughton, Saskatchewan

Thank you,
Rick Miner
Located in Vancouver

DATA: Minor, R. listed in 1929 Richmond, VA yearbook

DATA Message RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA).

This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes). It includes the following name(s):

Minor, R.

There's over 1,900 records, so I've only listed the name(s), as it appears in the yearbook in this message.

If you would like to view all of the information that I extracted from the yearbook, I have uploaded it to my freepages genealogy web site. The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...

Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Please note that my site contains free genealogy related data & IS NOT a "commercial" or "advertising" site. Until I can get back out & do research on my own families, my hobby is posting free genealogy related data online that may help other reseachers. I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site (including information others send to me to share on the site), not just data about the families I am researching (therefore I can't answer questions about everyone I have listed on the site). I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .

Susan :)
Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...
