Emily Minshull - Over, Cheshire

Emily Minshull married my great-grandfather, William Thomas Hodgkinson in 1885. She was born illegitimate (no father on birth or marriage certificates) to a Sarah Minshull in Over in January 1864. I cannot find any trace of either Sarah or Emily on the 1871 census or 1881 census. Would be grateful for any assistance or any ideas to point me in the right direction!

My great grandfather was a Minshull. Its not really an uncommon name, there are still a few living Minshull's in Bolton, Lancashire.

I am researching the family of Elizabeth Minshull born 1638 at Wisaston and married John Milton the poet as his third wife. Her father was Randle Munshull. Could this be the same Minshull family?

I realised my response was limited.

I am researching my childrens paternal tree.

I have a Mary Minshull marrying a Dominick Mazzinghi in New York.. Their daughter went to England to live, one of her sons went to Australia... this is the line I am researching.

Mary had a sister Ann who married a Lynde Walter. Second marriage. Boston.

Their parents were John Minshull and Mary Stauton or Stanton... of New York when Ann married in 1798.

and I think I've just found the marriage of John and Mary in NY in 1772.

Is anyone else having a problem connecting the Minshull's to their family tree? This has been very difficult to connect with the families of Minshull's in England. My great grandfather came to Canada before moving to the US. His name was John Minshull married to Margaret Telford. I believe that his father's name was also John married to Elizabeth Carter.

I am looking for info on John Minshull who married Margaret Telford. He was born in England June 16, 1872. I believe that his father's name was also John married to an Elizabeth Carter. I am stuck at this point. He was my great grandfather and died in Vermont.

hi my maiden name was Minshull as well but it is quite a common name in England and there are places with the name Minshull in them as well In cheshire there is Church Minshull and Minshull Vernon hope this helps you in searching your family tree .

My apologies for not responding sooner. For some reason, I don't seem to get emails automatically from this system so I didn't realize you had responded until I tripped across this accidentally.
I don't know if they changed the name of if the census taker just wrote down what was heard. Hard to say.
Also, I don't have more information but they must have married in Quebec. If you join a QU list, someone can probably look up their marriage and that will hopefully give you his parents.

Yes, I believe that this is the one. Those were the older children and Margaret Minshull was my grandmother. Do you have any other info. Thank you for this. I have tried to find this information for 3 years and this is the connection that I needed.

I can't believe that you are related to John Hitchens. He lived with my Aunt Laura for many years. Laura was my grandmother, Margaret's sister. Am trying to find out about the Minshull side in England. This is getting interesting. Been looking for some time. Know that John had family in England.

My gggrandfather was John Minshull who married margaret telford. Am trying to find out who his parents were. They are buried in Newbury, Vt. I know he came from Liverpool England and Margaret came from Scotland but that is about all I know. Am trying to find his parents name and would appreciate any help.

Frank Minshull had a brother George Minshull and also lived in Toronto, Ontario, and was there in the 1920's and 30's. George taught my mother in law how to drive.

Hi Minshull ,
I am a Mincy , by which has a relatively long ancestry of minshews , minceys , which date all the way back from Richard Minshew in 1650 here in the United States .The Farthest back i have found is that our great forefather was John Minshull Of Cheshire England ( 1638 ). Though the name Minshull is prevelant in England ..the online ifo is sparce and will probably be more evedient through the cheshire archive if contacted .

I have a little more info regarding the John Minshull family that I am looking for. I believe John's father's name was George and his mother was Elizabeth. They lived somewhere around Hadley (?) Ontario when he was a small child

I've got Edward in Ontario b. 1875 and George b. 1842 in England (married Elizabeth) and then Edward b. 1790 in England? Anybody know anything more?

There was a George Minshull who was a cousin to my mother in law. He taught her to drive, in the 1940's.

i believe i am a descendant of george and elizabeth minshull. their son charles was my grandfather's grandfather!

i have yet to find out if charles minshull 1838 is the only one born that year. they were from salford... but george was born in nantwich in 1816.

so it gets more exciting now as nantwich is near church minshull... where all the noble minshulls came from :)

other minshull history: john milton the famous poet was married to a minshull. also, a minshull was the grandmother x21 generations to princes william and harry.
