Re: Mis family from Cieplice, near Sieniawa and Lezajsk in Southeastern Poland

We have a great grandfather who migrated in 1909, last name Leszak (may be Americanized name) from Cieplice in Southeast Poland very near present day Ukraine border. Sounds like the same Cieplice you are looking at. Interestingly, we used to live in Hatfield, Mass and now wish I had access to many of my old Polish speaking friends from that area. This language is difficult. Ken Smith

Mis family from Cieplice, near Sieniawa and Lezajsk in Southeastern Poland

My great grandfather, Jan Mis (John Mish), immigrated to the United States in 1911 and resided in Hadley, Massachusetts, where he was married to Katarzyna Dubiel of Baranowka, near Lezajsk in Southeastern Poland today; formerly within the Galicia region of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He was the son of Antoni Mis and Jadwiga or Antonina Krol from the village of Cieplice near Sieniawa and Lezajsk in Southeastern Poland, about 30 miles from Ukraine; formerly within the Galicia region of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Jan had at least 4 siblings: Katarzyna Mis, who married Lucjan or Ludwik Kowalski and resided in Hadley, Massachusetts; Anna Mis, who married Vincent Wiesztort and resided in the Florence section of Northampton, Massachusetts; Mary Mis, who married Michael Sarzynski and resided in Hadley, Massachusetts, later marrying someone with the surname Dutko or Dudko and possibly moving to Hartford, Connecticut; and Wojciech Mis who came to Hadley for a short time and may have even been in Canada. Does any of this information seem familiar to anyone? More extensive data can be found on Ancestry World Tree.

Re: MIS, Agnes

Hi: My grandmother Victoria Flak was br 1891 and lived in Wielopole Moszczynskie Poland it is north of Zabno.

Her mother was Mary Mis br. around 1865. Mary never came to the Utd States, but her husband Stanilaus Flak did and then return to Poland when she got sick and died and I think it was around 1911.

My grandmother went with her father back to poland when Mary Mis got sick and she returned June 17 1913 and when she returned she also returned with a Viktorya Mis and a Maria Satko who went to live with her brother and he was a Mis so maria must have had been married and her husband died. And then there was also a Stefania Siakalo also from the same village of Wiclopole and also a Stefania Fido this village of Wiclopole is very small I was there last October.

Also I have found a Agata Mis that arrived in the USA on Jan 16, 1913 and she also was from the same village.

Like I said I was in Poland last October and I am returning again next October. But in the village of Zalipe there are some Mis still living there. I am going to be in that area next year and I plan on doing much more reseach on the Mis family. And my other names that I am looking for. Flak, Owca, Wierciak, Noga, Boryczka, and I am looking for the surname of Kobos, or Korus. email me rmccann44@aol.com
