About 10 years ago I was corresponding with a Sam Miskelly in Newtownbreda Belfast Northern Ireland--he sent pictures of the family there and even sent my new born son an outfit of clannish plaid. Which I still have. I would love to know if he is still around...
Anyway--try looking up international directories for phone numbers (I have long since lost it) He had a lot of information on the Miskelly's in Ireland-- and has visited some of us here in the states.
I have just started researching the Misskelly family for a friend at church. It is just a hobby for me. The ones I am looking for are Jacob Misskelly born about 1817 and who married Abigail ? born 1822. I think these are the parents of Rebecca Misskelly born 1859 and married Jacob Jones. I have found most of their descendants in Camden, NJ. Any help is greatly appreciated. hazelb67@yahoo.com

Lott Stevens and Anna Rebecca Stevens (MISKELLEY) are my Great Great Grandparents. You will find their names on the opposite side of Samuel and Ruth Miskelly's stone. May I ask what research you are doing? Currently, I have been doing research on my family and was visiting the Miskelley / Stevens resting place today. This is my connection: Lott Stevens - Anna Rebecca Stevens gave birth to Ruth M Stevens, which married Paul Garfield Ross. They gave birth to my grandmomther Ruth Ross and she married Robert John McGowan. They gave birth to Robert Francis McGowan which married my mother Lisa E. Wood. My name is Brian Keith McGowan.

Hello! I have a little info on what I think may be your line. I have a Clarence, son of Robert and Mary Miskelly of Clayton NJ. Clarence was born 6-1-1869. He had a brother Robert b. 8-1871; and a sister Sarah b. 1-10-1865.
I probably got this from census records. I made a list of all the Miskelly/Misskellys I could find in NJ and tried to tie them to my family. No such luck. Perhaps you have something to make the connection. I'd be happy to share data. You can email me direct at tohara1482@earthlink.net

Hello Sylvia,
I had an email from Ancestory telling me that I had a reply to my previous posting with regard to John Miskelly and Mary McAlpin- however the link I was given wouldn't open .The gist of my posting was to let you know that John and Mary were my 3X Gt.Grandparents.
My line of descent is through James Montgomery Miskelly one of John and Mary's sons.I researched this Miskelly line at least 25 years ago and was happy to pass the information on to who ever wanted it,but it seems that no-one has been able to get passed Mary and John.It is an assumption that they were married in Newtown Ards because it appears that at least one of their children were born there. Hope to hear from you soon.

Audrey Montgomery nee Miskelly
email audreymont1@aol.com

Hi Jim,
I enjoyed reading your info on Newtonard. I have a Sam Miskelly in Newtownbreda that I have been in contact with for a few years. Very interesting fellow! It is also interesting that you are now living only a few hours from me. I reside in Greenville NC. I am 38, married to a McCartee (Cartee) we believe his family came from Cork County Ireland...anyway...I have an unusual question for you. Have you read anything about Miskelly ancestors who may have been involved with Wicca or witchcraft? I saw a doccumentary on PBS once that talked about the Salem Witch Trials and a town was shown from modern times. In this town, they passed by a house with a sign that read " ? Miskelly--spiritualist, tarot readings,etc...I wondered if you had ever heard of a part of the family involved with that kind of thing inthe uk or usa. Just curious. Also I would love to trade info on my miskelley's...from Alabama... Take care. Please email me directly, as I don't get to this site near enough
Thanks
Angie Miskelley Cartee

My father was Fred Miskelly born in New Zealand in 1910. His sister married Bob Rankin and lived at Ballyblack (near Newtownards) for many years. Their son John, my cousin, still farms there.

My grandfather was William Miskelly who farmed in both Northern Ireland and New Zealand, was born in Northern Ireland in 1876. His father was Henry Miskelly born about 1839 and going back yet another generation to William Miskelly born about 1794.

My son, Colin, has done quite a bit of work on our family tree but is always looking for more links.

Concerning your not knowing the names of your paternal grandparents :

Their names would occur on the full copy version of your father's birth certificate. Apply to the New York State Dept. of Health in Albany. They have a web site :

http://www.health.state.ny.state

Their names would appear on his marriage certificate and death certificare. Apply to the same place.

If he was living with his parents in New York State in 1915, their names would appear with his on the New York State Census of 1915, available at the various county clerks, at the New York State Library in Albany, and probably at some other libraries. The last state census was in 1925. These are not indexed, but sometimes a city directory can be used as a search aid.

Finally, there might be a baptism record. It would be unlikely that you could find a hospital record. These would normally contain the names of the person's parents.

[Mr.] Reg Niles.
RegNMINiles@cs.com

In 1861 Joseph Miskelly/Misskelly purchased a home in Millville from Daniel and Sarah Hunter. Joseph Miskelly and/or Robert Miskelly were listed as heirs of one or two Hunter brothers in a land transfer record for Hunters Mill in Weymouth (now Estell Manor). There were many Hunters in the Millville City area during this same time period that are linked to this family. Many are buried in the Mount Pleasant cemetery near the Misskelly tomb.

If you come across any Hunter/Misskelly/Miskelly connections, please let me know.

Ann Miskelly

Ann Miskelly sailed to Van Diemens land aboard the ship Boedicia in 1835. She was 28 years old, a farm servant.
She married John Smoothy on the 25th April 1836 in Hobart. John was a convict who was given a free pardon.
Have just discovered that Ann remarried a George Haycock in 1858 in Victoria. The marriage cert. tells me that Ann's parents were Edward Miskelly and Maria Britin/Briton or could be Bristow. It also says that Ann was born in Wexford in Ireland. Her father was a farmer.
Would be grateful if anyone has any information regarding this family.
P.S. On one or two documents Ann's name was also spelt as Miskillion. Her first name has also appeared as Harriet however after recieving the marriage certificate I am fairly sure that Ann Miskelly is the correct spelling.

I have had very little success in starting my "Miskelly tree" and have very little info from which to start. We have a Patrick Miskelly bn 1928 in Ballygowan, Nr Newtonards,(oldest of 4 children, the others were girls)to a Patrick Miskelly bn abt 1895 and his wife Gertrude N P Miskelly. In about 1930 the family went to America (New York) but returned a few years later. Patrick Snr may have a middle name of Kieran and was in insurance and also an opera singer with the d'Oly Carte.

Does any of this sound familiar or can anyone offer lines of research. I do not live in the British Isles which complicates searches somewhat.

Regards

Jo

Hi Dan,
I am doing some research on the Miskelly's for my friend and your cousin Patricia Miskelly Porter. So far I have found where your grandmother, Mollie(MaryJane) came to the US in 1913 with your Uncle James when he was three years old. They joined your Uncle who must have come sometime between 1910 and 1913. At that time they lived at 531 Lydell Street in Syr. In the 1920 census, it listed her as a widow and your father as ten years old.
Please give me your e-mail address as I will notify you when I find more info.

Thanks,
Susan
