Hi cousin.

Luther Mitchell is a younger brother to my ancestor, William Thomas Mitchell.

Our Mitchells have been in Maryland since the 1700s. I was told by my grandmother that they were Welsh and English and the early first names that I have seen bear this out.

Thomas Mitchell - b. ca 1763 d. 1793-1800 Anne Arundel Co, MD m. ca 1786 {unknown}

children:

1. {female} b. ca 1787 Anne Arundel Co, MD
2. James Mitchell b. ca 1789 Anne Arundel Co, MD
3. Nicholas Mitchell b. ca 1791 Anne Arundel Co, MD
4. {female} b. ca 1793 Anne Arundel Co, MD

3. Nicholas Mitchell d. aft 1840 m. Sarah Bell 1 Oct 1811 Baltimore Co, MD. Sarah b. 1791-1794 MD d. 1831-1833 Anne Arundel Co, MD.

children:
i. Emeline Mitchell b. ca 1812 Anne Arundel Co, MD. m. William Carroll 8 Aug 1839.
ii. Mary Ann Mitchell b. ca. 1814 Anne Arundel Co, MD. m. Joshua Stark 10 Sep 1843.
iii. William Thomas Mitchell b. 1818 Anne Arundel Co, MD. m. Sarah Ann Tilghman 20 Nov 1839.
iv. Luther Mitchell b. 1826 Anne Arundel Co, MD. m. Elizabeth Hadden 11 Mar 1849 by Rev. Wm. Fort.
v. {male} b. ca 1828 Anne Arundel Co, MD

Nicholas m. 2nd - Sarah Ann Jackson 6 Oct 1833 Baltimore Co, MD. Sarah b. 1801-1810.

children:

vi. Isabel Mitchell b. 1836 Anne Arundel Co, MD
vii. {male} b. 1838 Anne Arundel Co, MD
viii. Amanda Mitchell b. 1840-1841 Anne Arundel Co, MD

Note: They lived in the 4th district of Anne Arundel County on the Patapsco River. That area became Howard County in 1851. By 1850, Nicholas's children had moved across the river to the 1st district of Baltimore County (now 13th district). It was easier back then to go across the river and get a marriage license in Baltimore County than to get one in Anne Arundel County. The Mitchells lived in St. Denis, Baltimore County and worked at the Avalon Iron Works on the Patapsco.

I am in the middle of several things right now, but I will send you more information when I get a chance.

George Clark
Hello,

I'm looking for information on my grandparents James Luther Williams and Doris Mitchell of TN. Both James and Doris are deceased. They passed in the early 1990's and had the following children, William Waymon, Frances (deceased), Peggy (deceased), Deborah, Jaime, and Edward Wayne "Bubba". It is possible that Doris is of either black irish of black dutch descent because of possible Cherokee ancestry. She divorced my grandfather and was remarried to a man by the name of Chester Temple. Any and all information will be most appreciated. Please reply here or e-mail me at jdurham23@comcast.net

Thank you,

Jason

Marriage to a Mitchell

Taking quite a long shot here, but running out of options!!
My cousin EMMA REOLA married a Mitchell sometime around 1947 in Missouri, we believe. Her name at that time was STANLEY. She was living in Kansas City then, but I can't locate a marriage record for her and a Mitchell ..the only reason I know she was married to a Mitchell is because she signed her daughter's death certificate as Mrs. Reola Mitchell ... so I'm hoping that someone in the Mitchell family recognizes her name, REOLA isn't and wasn't that common a name, and can provide some information as to who the Mitchell she married was.
Thanks so much for any and all help.

my great grandfather was William Jackson mitchell and my grandmother is still living and her name is Hazel irene mitchell and she is 99 years old. Her father was William. His brothers names were Sam and Bedford. She would love to find information about her family and living relatives. She thinks her father was born in 1866 and died around 1939 but that is just a guess. She was raised in Texas where her father was a farmer for many years. Does this sound familiar at all?

Thanks Jeannie - I did eventually find the answer through distant cousins I met through the Simcoe County Genealogical Society.

Robert Mitchell was born in Ireland (we think maybe Tyrone) died, leaving children and widow; they were settlers in Adjala, Twp., Simcoe County, Ontario. His widow Margaret (we think nee Wilson) died 15 june 1845 and is buried at Barrie Union Cemetery. Mary Ann, their daughter, raised her younger siblings, Eliza, Alexander and Sarah Jane before she ultimately married Alexander Graham.

I tried looking at Mary Ann (Mitchell) Graham's death registration to see if that had any information of assistance to you. It, unfortunately, does not list her parents' names...it only indicates that her father was born in Scotland.

Sorry...

Sincerely,
Jeannie Graham

Would you happen to have any info on Willie Carter Mitchell b. October 11, 1917 in Hawkins Co., TN? His fathers name was William Mitchell. This was according to his death Certificate. Willie died July 8, 1998 in Morristown,TN. There was no mother listed on his death certificate. As of right now, this is all the info that I have. Willie was my husband's grandfather.

Mary Egan Loveridge was my dad's aunt; she died about 18/19yrs ago, and uncle stan died probably about 10yrs ago. they lived in carlisle, and we visited and stayed with them a few times.my grandad (Mick) settled in st helens, but i never met any other male egan's...i gather Pat was a bit "itinerant" and would drop in unannounced for a few days on Mick and Mary, then be on his way again, but they never seemed to know where he was. we went over to the house in Knockauns once - about 30yrs ago, When Autie Mary & Unlce Stan were there for the summer (they were always there for every summer; Mary used to hate it, Uncle Stan loved it). we stayed at the pub in Glenamaddy - which was owned by a cousin on my Uncle Mike's wife(Babs). my dad Tom Egan died 23yrs ago, and uncle Mike died about 4 and a half years ago. my aunties Mary (Maureen) and Winnie are still alive

Mitchell Family

Looking for info on William Mitchell (originally from Hull) and his family. I guess he was born between 1810 and 1818. He was a ship owner. He married the widow of a Mr. McFarland (who died in 1831), about 1839. Her maiden name might have been Irvine. They resided on Rossville street, Derry after they married. New Brunswick Canada seems to be part of his story. He had two sons, William Mitchell and Daniel Irvine Mitchell. William (Jr.) married Mary McVicker in 1871 and they had a daughter Margaret Irvine Mitchel, who married William O'Doherty, an Irish Member of Parliment.

Hello my name is Jim Mitchell and i am researching Mitchells in North Carolina. I found where Nazareth Mitchell was drafted in Franklin Co. NC. My family was in Franlklin Co. at this time. I am dec. from a William Mitchell and I find him in Franklin Co on the 1790 and 1800 census. William moved to Wilson Co. Tennessee by 1805 where I find him on the tax rolls there, I have his will being probated in 1817. I would love to hear from you, I think we may have a connection. Thank you.

Jim Mitchell
