PRINCETON — Clinton Eugene Mitchem, 79, of 512 Woodland Lane, Princeton, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 7, 2008, at his residence. He died from a long illness of cancer, fought a good battle, but is now with his Lord and Savior.
Born May 1, 1928, in Sagamore, he was a son of the late William “Bill” Mitchem and Flossie Miller Mitchem.
He had been a resident of Princeton for 46 years and was a member of New Salem Methodist Church. He worked in sales for PP&G for 33 years and was a member of the Elks. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Junior, Jimmy and Johnny; and a sister, Juanita.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Louise Lynch Mitchem; two sons, Larry Mitchem and wife, Brenda, of Bluefield and Clifford Mitchem and wife, Sarena, of Princeton; a daughter, Mary Marshall and husband, Donald, of Gap Mills; 10 granchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Mitchem of Newark, Del., and Milton “Buddy” Mithcem of Coronna, Mich.; and four sisters, Jean Gaither of Bluefield, Jacqueline Williamson of Bluefield, Barbara “Sissy” Francis of Bluefield and Betty Lou Russsell of Richmond, Va..
At the request of Mr. Mitchem, graveside service will be noon Friday, April 11, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton, with the Rev. Michelle Messer officiating.
Burial will follow with Chris Mitchem, John Marshall, Shawn Stone, Eric Dixon, Daniel Brown and Chris Belcher serving as pallbearers. Adam Marshall will serve as an honorary pallbearer. Military honors will be performed by the West Virginia Honor Guard.
Friends may call 10 to 11:30 a.m. today at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, Bluewell.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clinton Mitchem Memorial Fund, c/o New Salem Methodist Church, 8582 New Hope Road, Bluefield, WV 24701.
Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, Bluewell, is serving the Mitchem family.
