Hi,
I was going thru some of our farm property deeds and thought some of you might be interested in these. From the State of MI to Daniel Mixter of the Co. of Lapeer, MI (Liber 73 Page 74 of Deeds, dated Mar. 16, 1863 and recorded June 8, 1934) and then from Daniel Mixter and Catharine, his wife, of Lapeer Co., MI to Solomon Mixter of the same place (Liber 48, Page 56 of Deeds, dated Feb. 4, 1874, recorded Feb. 21, 1874) Solomon's wife is mentioned as Rosa A. and also as Rose A. on the same sheet of paper. In a mortgage (No. 39, Liber 27, Page 165 of Mortgages, Dated Feb. 23, 1874 and recorded Feb. 28, 1874, a Charles Mixter is also added with Daniel, Cathern (sic), Charles, Solomon and Rosa A.
Mixer and Mixter are one.

According to the librarian at the Watertown, Mass. library, there seems to be no doubt the Mixter and Mixer surnames are the same. Depending on the clerk, the Old English 't' was at times omitted. It is my opinion that the names should even be pronounced the same. The 't' should be silent. How else could the clerks make such a mistake. However, this is just a conversation point now (especially if someone calls my Mixture!).

The most activity now is in the cousin Mixer surname board.
I vote to use it exclusively. See you on the Mixer side.
