I'm looking for information on Edna Deardorf Mock. Edna married John Earnest Mock in Geneseo, Kansas in 1920. John passed away in Boulder, Colorado in 1981. Only information I have about Edna is that she was born in Kansas about 1897. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for answering my message. My connection is with JA Mock's daughter Margaret May. She married Samuel Weldon Brown. I'm trying to find out info on the Brown family and Sarah Picketts family. If you have any info on the Picketts I would be grateful. This has been a tough family to track. I don't even know where they are from. Same goes for the Brown family. I would like to know of Margaret May's siblings as well as Adam and Sarahs children. Are there many Mock decendants from John Anderson's line still around?
Thanks for all of your help!!! Feel free to answer by my email address if you'd like: bethndave@atlanticbb.net
Beth Jones
Stevensville, MD

I have recently begun research on the Mock family. John Anderson Mock was my great grandfather, Carrie Cornelia my grandmother and Elizabeth Underwood my mother. I live in Davidson County, NC where JA Mock and his parents and siblings lived and have information I would be happy to share with you.
You inquired about Sarah Pickett. She was Adam's first wife, born 27 Dec 1800 and died 30 Nov 1834. She is buried in Midway UMC cemetery in Davidson Co. along with Adam and several other family members.
I have some information on Adam and Sarah's children as well as Adam and 2nd wife Nancy Ripple and children.

Thank you,
Becky Bumgarner
Clemmons, NC

Dear Susan,

I have a 3greatgrandfather, John C MOCK (1830-1902) who was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania but lived most of his life in Paint Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania and Cambria County, Pennsylvania and died in Scalp Level and is buried at the Paint Lutheran Cemetery.

I'm aware of the John in Bloomfield Township, Bedford County and if this is in fact your 3greatgrandfather, he is certainly a different person than mine, but as I've never seen a photo of my 3greatgrandfather, I thought I'd respond in case we are in fact both talking about the same person?(wishful thinking I imagine) Which child of John C is your ancestor?

Best wishes,
Karen

Your William H MOCK was discussed in several posts to the MOCK-GEN list earlier this year. These messages are archived but you may have to be a member of the list to look at these archives. If you go to http://mock.rootsweb.com you can probably join the list and get access to the archives or you could first see if you can search the archives without being a list member. A search for Bellingham will give you some of these posts.

Your family also is included in one of Barbara's online working charts, chart number 3. This is also accessible from the mainpage and click on working charts, then chart number 3.

This chart gives William H MOCK's birthdate as March 13, 1848 and the place as Columbus, Ohio. Lots of other information there which should be of interest to you.

Enjoy,
Karen

Hi Mike,

That was a quick response.

Is there any written confirmation that Margaret's maiden name was MOCK to support the family tale?

With Margaret's birth in the early 1800's, she is of the same generation as my John B MOCK born circa 1799 whose parents I haven't been able to definitively find despite many years trying.

I was able to find your RIFFLEs and LOWs, the latter indexed as LORD, at Heritage Quest Online, living in Juniata Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania in the 1860 and 1870 censuses.

My MOCKs lived in Richland Township, Cambria County in 1850 and later in adjacent Paint Township, Somerset County and then Scalp Level, Cambria County so in the general Johnstown vicinity after starting in St Clair and later Union Townships in Bedford County, Pennsylvania.

My MOCK line is:

John B MOCK born circa 1799-1881 m. Catherine CRIST
John C MOCK 1830-1902 m Lydia MURPHY
Lydia E MOCK 1860-1935 m Simon HUTZEL-moved to South Fork, Cambria County, Pennsylvania

Your Margaret is an interesting lead for me. Perhaps we can find an obituary or death notice that will prove useful. I have had no luck finding one for my John B who died in the 1880's despite having an exact date in my papers.

LOW isn't a name that I remember seeing but now I know to pay attention to it! Have you seen your RIFFLEs as RIPPLE as there were RIPPLEs in Paint Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania?

Thanks,
Karen

My GUESS was that this John MOCK living in Bedford Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania in 1840 was individual 1.5 on Barbara Dittig's Working Chart #7 accessible at http://mock.rootsweb.ancestry.com/Chart07.htm

He died in 1844 and his wife was Ann Maria and I have seen her listed as Mary. So I think the old gentleman refers to the head of the household although the 80-90 years is slightly older than what this John MOCK is thought to be. This John MOCK had a will in which Bedford Township is mentioned.

I do not know who else would be in his household and I haven't looked at tax lists for Bedford Township.

I have two John MOCK ancestors from nearby St. Clair Township, Bedford County so have spent alot of time over the years trying to sort out John MOCKs in the county but it has been very difficult as it's a very common name in this region.

I was interested that you note that Samuel LOW was married to Margaret MOCK. This isn't a family I'm familiar with. How did you discover that?

This John and Ann Maria/Mary MOCK I'm referring to is thought to not have children or at least they weren't included in his will!

I'm very interested in learning more about your interest in the MOCK family in Bedford County. Are you subscribed to the MOCK-GEN-L list?

Best wishes,
Karen

I, so far, have not been able to find out where he was born. I know that he was in Bellingham WA in 1901 and I know that Harry was born in Anthony KS. I also know that W.H. was an undertaker at one time, Knows as a Rev. and was "department commander of the Washington and Alaska division of G.A.R." The newspaper article I located said he was 64 when he died and this was from the Bellingham Herald in 1913. So the dates do not appear to match.

Hello,
I have this Drucilla (Yilla) A MOORE that was born on Feb 23, 1840 in Butler County, Ohio, died on Apr 03, 1897 in Toulon, Stark County, Illinois at age 57, and was buried in Toulon Cemetery, Toulon, Stark County, Illinois. Drucilla married William Ashbury MOCK(b. Sep 27, 1837, d. Apr 15,1906) on Jun 11, 1861 in Coles Co, IL.

I have her father as Levi Moore born on Sep 19, 1807 in Butler County, Ohio, died on Sep 18, 1859 in Butler County, Ohio at age 51, mother Abigail FLENNER, daughter of Daniel B. FLENNER and Hannah E. ANDREW, on Dec 25, 1834 in Butler County, Ohio. Abigail was born on Jan 18, 1813 in Butler County, Ohio, died on Feb 10, 1868 in Coles, Illinois at age 55 remarried after death of Levi.
Note: ".....Levi and Abigail (Flenner) Moore, both natives of Ohio, was engaged in farming until his death, which occurred in 1859 at the age of forty-one. His wife survived the death of her husband several years. They were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The following is the record of their children: Ursula, the wife of J. B. Flenner; Isaac N., Hannah, the wife of George W. Dutro; Drusilla, the wife of William Mock; Daniel F. married Miss Emily Wright; his wife died and he afterward married Emily Hill. Harriet, the wife of John Willhoit; Solomon, who died at nine, and Levi at the age of six years." See sources.
Marriage 1 Abigail FLENNER
Children
Daniel F. MOORE
Harriet MOORE
Levi MOORE
Solomon MOORE
Ursula MOORE
Isaac N. MOORE b: 24 AUG 1836 in Butler County, OH
Hannah MOORE b: 10 APR 1838
Drucilla MOORE b: ABT 1839 in Ohio
Sources: Title: Portrait & Biographical Album of Coles County, Illinois 1887

I am not sure if this is all of their children but there is always a chance he is a son of a brother to Levi as I have nothing on his line back. My Drucilla was 41 in the 1880 census and your John was 50 would have been in same generation. I have a little bit more info on her siblings if you would like to share. I would like to compare notes with anyone that has this family related to William A Mock and his Moore connection.
Debbie dbpc5153@ligtel.com
I found a newspaper photo recently of a John C. Mock, captioned "Aged Pioneer Dies." It looks like it should have had an obituary attached, but didn't. He most likely is my ggg-grandfather and probably lived in Bloomfield Township, Bedford County, PA. There's no way of telling the age of the clipping, but I'm guessing 1920s-1930s. Does anyone out there know anything about this man or maybe have the obituary?
Thanks.
Sue

Mock and Rittsteiger families from Germany

I am searching for ancestors, descendants and other relatives of Adam Mock and his wife Barbara Rittsteiger. They were from Eicheldorf, Hofheim, Oberbayern, Bayern, Germany. They had two children John George and John. John George was the oldest. John was born on November 24, 1858 in Eicheldorf. He died on June 13, 1918 in Timber Lake, Dewey, South Dakota. He married Helena Dorothea Volkenant on April 10, 1872 in Waconia, Carver, Minnesota. Helena was born on January 17, 1853 in Siebleben, Gotha, Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha, Thuringen to Friedrich Wilhelm Volkenant and Catharina Maria Ernestine Hasenstein. She died on December 08, 1942 in Seattle, Washington. She came to America in the ship Stedinger from Bremen and arrived in New York on May 8, 1855 with her parents, some siblings and her grandfather, Georg Ludwig Hasenstein. Her siblings were Hugo, Jacob F, Emilie, Anna, Theresia, and Wilhlemina. When her father died in the Civil War her mother married John's older brother John George and they had one daughter named Mary. John and Helena had 12 children, 6 boys and 6 girls. They were William George, Joseph, John, Otto Hubert, Kate, Anna Helena, Emilie Mary, George Fredrich, Maria Theresa, Rose Louise and one whose name is not known. William George Mock was born on April 18, 1883 in Wilmont Twp, Nobles, Minnesota. He died on 06 Oct 1952 in North Bend, Washington. He married Mary Delphine Shannon on July 15, 1905 in Ramona, Lake, South Dakota. They had 5 children 4 boys and one girl. Mary was born on September 27, 1886 or 1887 in Wessington Springs, Jerauld, South Dakota to John Mock and Mary Delphine Collier. Her siblings were Eliza, John, Joseph, and Vera. Mary died on March 13, 1916 in Saint Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota from giving birth to her son.

The Mock's in my family were actually in Louisiana. My grandmother was Ida Louise [Penton] Mock. Mock was her married name. My grandfather, her husband, was Orrison Sigsby Mock. By the time she came to Virginia, she was widowed and remarried. So this probably does not help you.

Regards, Melissa

Unfortunately I only have a reference from a distant family member who is no longer living, that Margret was a Mock. The lack of many Lows in the Bedford area and such a coincidental find as the 1850 census info is all I have at the moment. I have a JPG of the 1850 and the 1840 census pages for Barnabas R ,Samuel L, John M and Mary M

From the record it seems that a younger generation is also present and producing a family.

Not sure if the John of record is the older or younger generation.

Suspect based on 1850 census record that the Mary Mock aged 76 in 1850 and living in Bedford twp with daughter Margaret Mock-Low and son in law, Samuel Low, is the female in the 1840 record for John Mock Bedford Twp then aged 60-70.

Looking for anyone with info on this family.
Large Mock group of families in Bedford during these 2 census 1840-50, have info I compiled from census to share

Thanks for the reply karen
I am decended through a Riffle line.

Barnabas Riffle had a farm in Napier Twp Bedford county.
His son Peter my great great grandfather married Cristine Anna Low in 1855. She was the daughter of Samuel Low and Margaret Mock per family info.

There are detailed Bedford county Census records on the Web and in 1850 a Samuel, Margaret, Christina, and her sister Lucy (all the right names and ages) are listed in Bedford Twp with Mary Mock age 76. She is listed, as what seems, as head of household, since she is listed first and the property value is accorded to her.

In the 1840 census where there are only tic marks for household members by age group and sex, John Mock appears as a owner of a farm in Bedford Twp. I am assuming that this is the same household and it fits with John dying in 1844 leaving Mary a widow in 1850 census.
However there is in the 1840 listing a extended household. Not just John and Mary.

Right now I am assuming that by age groupings and sex, Samuel may have been there and that might account for the larger group of dependents including young children and for John leaving all to his wife alone.

It would seem Mary still owned the farm and Samuel and family worked it in 1850

unfortunately I haven't found any 1860 references yet.
Christina married Peter Riffle in 1855 and Peter and that branch moved to Johnstown.

So I am probably at a wall unless someone out there has more detail about John Mock in 1840 Bedford Twp, Bedford county Pa.

thanks
Mike

Hi,

I don't recognize any of those names. Nor do I think that any of my Mocks were ever in Virginia, but thanks for your response.

Appreciatively,
Joany

We could very well be talking about the same Mock family. My Mock's were also in Anthony, Kansas at that time. My WH Mock had a son named Henry Poindexter Mock who was a minister. I know that WH's wife died in Anthony, but I never found out where or when WH died. Please contact me at bck1234@mac.com so we can compare other information.

Thank you,
Carol

I do not know of a William H. Mock with a son named Harrison.
My William Henry Mock was born 1816 in Randolph Co, NC. This Mock family moved from North Carolina to Tennessee to Kansas.
If any of your Mock family lived in these areas, please let me know.
Thank you

Thank you for writing. I'm afraid I know very little about the Mock family; it took me a long time to discover the little I do know. I would love any info you wish to share; maybe something in your files will "ring a bell".

Alice Mock White was my husband's maternal grandmother and he never even heard her name until I told him. Strange, huh?

Thank you again.

Wanda

Only what I have posted. I've actually learned more about her sister, Margaret Emma who married Levi Airington. The Caddo you mentioned....is that in Oklahoma? My husband's family often mentioned a Caddo (I believe it was near where they lived in Johnston Co., OK).

I would appreciate any help you might give me.

Wanda
