Wife of Truman Modglin was Mary Ann (Anaper) Burns daughter of John & Mary Burns of Chatham Co., NC. This is proven by John Burns will dated March 22, 1811 in Chatham County.
My G.G. Grandmother was Mary Ann Lackey & I have seen her named listed as Mary Anaper/Anapler Lackey. Mary Ann Lackey's parents were George W. & Elizabeth Modglin Lackey. I believe that Elizabeth Modglin b. abt. 1782 in North Carolina was a daughter of Truman & Mary Ann Burns Modglin.
Elizabeth Modglin was 1st married to Thomas Rose. He died about 1814 in Gallatin County, Illinois. Strangeman Modglin a brother to Truman and Elbert Rose applied for letters of administration on estate of Thomas Rose desceased. In 1820 Pope Co., Illinois Strange Modglin lived near George W. & Elizabeth Lackey. Strange Modglin must have been very fond of Elizabeth Modglin Rose Lackey as he & his wife followed George W. & Elizabeth Lackey to the Washington/Benton Co., Ark. area in the 1830's.

I saw a 30 Mar 2004 post regarding Modglin's. My ancestor, James Modglin, was married to Nancy Jane Hall Stilley after the death of his first wife, Anna Taylor (my line) and he and Nancy had several children. I also am interested in pursuing the line of James and Nancy Modglin--as well as other Modglin's.

Nell was my great aunt, her correct first name was Nellie Louise although she went by Nell or when she wrote she sometimes went by Nel Modglin.

Nell Modglin Maynard was married to S.Y. Maynard, the S stood for Sheridan and the Y was for Yates.

I would love to correspond with you I have more info on both, as well as other Modglin information. Hope to hear from you again

I have been tracing my female line back as far as I can. I have come to my g-g-g-g-g-grandmother Mary Elizabeth Modglin (born 1774 NC) daughter of Strangeman Modglin and Chloe Patterson (born 1752 NC). I am stuck in finding the mother of Chloe Patterson - Mary Elizabeth Modglin's maternal grandmother. Anyone have any information on her?
I'd appreciate any info and would be glad to share any info I have as to her descendants.

Today, I did a search of the Wilson County, TN microfilmed land deed index, wills and inventories, and county court files. These searches were limited to the period prior to 1830. I am interested primarily in the Holloman family, secondarily with the Joiners and Modglins. For various reasons, I believe that my Holloman family (William and wife) were in Wilson prior to coming to Pope. I also suspect that the Joiners and Modglins came from Wilson to Pope County, IL.

The will inventory was in poor condition. As best I could tell, it included no mention of Hollomans, Joiners, or Modglins.

I would be happy to correspond with anyone researching the Holloman family. My 4th gr grandfather, William Holloman/Halleman, might have married a Joiner. He also named a son Hickman. This might indicate a relation to the Hickman family that lived in Wilson.

This is James son of Truman and he married Lucinda Kennedy Feb 4,, 1819 in Wilson Co., He died in Pope, Co.1849.i have all 7 children and there spouses if you are still interested.I can give you the imformation Lucinda was born in Martin Co.N.C. in 1794

My great-great-great-granddad was named J.M. Shirks who married Docia Evans both were born in Tennessee and died in Alabama. They lived in Illions and had a lot of children. Whats so special abotu them is that they were full-blooded Native American and i cannot find anything about that. I am going to Tennessee in two weeks to research at the Libarary to see what i can find.

names were Jeanne Modglin who died of food poison-
ing at 6 years old. Faye who married with 4 or 5 child-
ren before she died of cancer. James Ray Modglin who
served in the Navy. Vera Modglin. Dale Wayne Modglin
nicknamed Pete. Opal left and went to California when
Pete was 18 months Opals parents raised Vera & Faye
Robert & Betty raised James & Pete.
I know that James had a brother named Alvin Modglin
who was nicknamed Doc. Possibly a brother named

I have Abstracts of Military Pension Files. Francis Marion Modglin is on them.If you need any imformation.He was taken prisoner three times. The last was Andersonville whats so great he lived through it.I have been there it ishard to imagine so many soldiers in such a small area.I had a realtive to die there. Betty

I got the book and it didn't really give the imformation most of us are seeking. It listed Modglins in a phone book directory and the ages some Modglins died.Even had a page of jokes. It might be of use to some, but to me it was useless.It has Modglin on the front of the book.Which wasn't bad for your coffee table.It was written by a Modglin.I would like to add something else.I saw a book in the Genealogy department at John Logan College in Carterville, Il.It was listing families of Massac and Pope Counties Il. It hasBenton Born in Wilson, Co. Tn. I have he was b. in Chatham, Co. N.C. in 1790. Mary Ann said they moved to Wilson, Co.Tn. in the latter part of the year 1805. So it couldn't be right, but i have seen it on line.and it should be changed, for our new Modglin researchers. Thanks, Betty

Eliza Ann Modglin

Eliza Ann Modglin married Augustus Hamilton Clanahan September 19, 1849 in Pope Co. IL. I have found that she was born December 23, 1830 and died February 9, 1904. I have not been able to connect her with any of the Modglin's in Southern Illinois.

My guess is that she is the daughter of James Modglin and Lucinda Kennedy. James is the son of Truman Modglin and Mary Ann "Anaper" Burns.

Any help would be appreciated.

My Grandmother was Lillie Mc Fadden. My Father is David Larry Modglin.
I am not sure if Grandma Lillie was his first wife. His next wife was named Elsie.
I hope this may help.
My impression is there are more Modglins then I ever imagined.

Found Modglin Carvings

Hello everyone.

I was hiking this weekend at Giant City State Park near Makanda, IL. While walking through the "city" portion there were hundred's of names carved into the stone. By chance we found three (3) Modglin names that I can't exactly place and I am hoping that someone can help me figure out who they might have been.
There was one with a date under it by itself
D. Modglin 20 Sept 1900. This one could have been A. Modglin. Unfortunately I didn't take the camera with me because I had not intended on doing this hike.

The other two were B. Modglin and A. Modglin but there were no dates near them. They were carved one under the other on a wall across from the D. Modglin

The only A. Modglin I have in my list is Albert M. Modglin (1868-1935). I don't seem to have any D or B Modglin's in my names (at least not males) from around that time frame but I also don't know when the other two were added.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm doing my family tree and there seems to be a few sets of Modglins down in So. IL, which side are you from. I've got some of the names for my side but haven't had any luck finding anyone else from it yet. If you have any info I'd be grateful if we could share each side of the Modglin family or if we're on the same side then lets compare notes. If you have the ones I'm thinking at then is Sidney's parents Glenn and Verba (?), if so I've got more info and if not then lets compare family trees.

My husband is a grandson of Elzie & Lizzie Needham, son of Earl D. Needham. We don't have much information on Elzie or his brothers and sisters. Dale's sister lives in Ark. and we are planning a trip in two weeks, hope to find out more and will let you know.

I found out that Elzia and Elizabeth are buried at Worthen Cemetery outside Murphysboro Illinois. I have a picture of the head stone if you would like me to send it to you.

I looked at the Il. Marriage Index for Jackson, Co. Il.I found Elza Needham married Lizzie Modglin 01/01/1899.I knew Henry Needham married Addie Modglin.I haven't done any research on any other Needham. My husband's aunt Stella Modglin married George Needham.Since you have his first name i feel you won't have any trouble finding imformation.I will pass on what i find. Betty

Hi! I'm hunting information regarding an Elizabeth Modglin who is listed in the IL censuses of 1850 and 1870 as being born in 1795ish in South Carolina. She was in St Clair IL by 1819 where she married my 3rd great grandfather, Jesse Miller. She and Jesse lived the remainder of their lives as neighbors of the southern IL Modglins in St Clair, Monroe and Jackson counties.
