LAURITZ & EMMA (THOMPSON) MOE -bio
Lauritz MOE, was born June 13, 1867 in Solar, Norway. His wife, Emma THOMPSON, was born April 4, 1872 in Norwegian Grove, Minnesota. They came fra the Enderlin area in the spring of 1900 and homesteaded in the North East quarter of Section 12 in 1904. In 1907, the family moved from their homestead to Ruso. Lauritz died December 3, 1924 and Emma died February 4, 1966.

When the township was organized Mr Moe chose McKinley for the township name, but it was rejected and Bjornson was chosen instead.

Their children were:
Cora Moe: born Jan 6, 1899, Norwegian Grove, MN. She married Alton L. Jacobson. She died December 13, 1976.

Thelma Moe: born Feb 12, 1904 at the homestead. She married Leevis H. Lombard and he died Jan 7, 1940. She married a second time to J. Gilbert Weaver of Decatur, Illinois and they lived there.

Edgar Moe: born April 13, 1902 at the homestead. He married Vida D. Mae Algren. He died June 18, 1983.

My gg grandfather was Anders Johanneson Moe who was born in Laerdal, Sogn, Norway in 1831. He came to the US sometime in the 1850's. He is the first one in my family where the Moe name appears.

My grandparents were Otto & Emma Moe. My mother (Elizabeth Moe) was born in Tioga, North Dakota. Sha had a cousin (I can't remember his name) that lived in Calgary, Alberta.

Do you know when Anna Moe came to the U.S? Also, did she come with a brother (Ole) and another sister?
We are trying to trace as much information as possible about Ole Moe once he came to the United States. We know he came over with two sisters. Their mother had died and their father married again. Ole mentioned that the stepmother was very mean and I do belive they also came to the United States. Our information is very spotty as you can tell.

Hi,

Yes this is the same Charles Now Moe. He did marry Eliza and Ellen. They lived in Oregon for awhile and had a family. I have heard that he died and is buried in Janesville California but so far have no confirmation of this. His children married and lived in Oregon and California.

I have found that his name was Nun/Narn Moe. In the Rev War records at the Nat'l Archives it is Nun. he may have dropped the Peter, but I have not found that. Can you tell where you found him as Peter Nun? Sorry I will be off for a while, I am packing the computer to move today. I'll get back up and running as soon as possible.

Peder was born , baMay 2, baptised June1 1856 in Nykirken, Bergen, Norway.
Johannes also had the name Matthaeus. His date of birth
was March 2, bapt. June 3 1860, Domkirken, Bergen, Norway.
Their father was Peder Moe and their mother Rachel Oline,
maiden name was Sunde. The last name Johannesen was
probably a too long shot ;-), they might have used a patronym
after their father, if so, then Pedersen. In Norway I only have seen them registered as Moe, though.

I hope somebody can be of help!!

Hello Rachel,
I dont' know if we are the right family. But my mother's father was Ole Moe and his father's name was Nels (either Nelson or Moe) He came to the US later than my grandfather and I don't know his wife's name since this was his second wife. Ole Moe worked for the railroad and had jobs with the railroad so they traveled alot, but I think he may have had contact with his father (Nils, Nels???) when he and his wife came over. Do you know the names of any of his children? I know that these families lived primarily in Minnesota and Iowa.
I think Ole came over with two of his sisters who would have been from Nels(Nils?) first wife.

His wife, Sophia Anderson, was born in Sweden, in 1859; came to America with her parents; married, in 1879; they have two children - Julia, born Oct. 21, 1879; infant, April 30, 1880. His father and mother came to America, 1850. They have a family of seven children. The old people live on the place with Andrew. His father is 60 years of age, and mother now 57 years of age.

I did this research several years ago but think the Abraham Moe you are looking for was born about 1793 in New York and married Lorinda Dunforth, born about 1795 in New York. He died before 1860, probably in Ohio and she died after 1870 in Ashtabula, Ohio.

Thank You for reply. I do have that CN is Charles Now Moe...he died in California in 1880..and he and Mary Jane Suttonhad one daughter before she died..Eliza Jane. Does this fit with your family information? I also have he married Eliza Whipple and Ellen Hart. Mary Jane Sutton died shortly after giving birth to Eliza. She was my Great grandfather's sister.

I have a postcard written to my grandmother Emma Nidy (maiden name Moe) from Emma Moe Mathewson living in Nebraska. She mentioned her brother Vernon. I know her Father was Charles and I am trying to connect this line because I remember my grandmother saying she was a cousin. The postcard also has a picture of Emma Moe on it. I am trying to connect Abraham Moe to my line however I have 3 abraham's so need to get back another generation. Any ideas?

Albert is from Norway & Christena is from Denmark. They had a daughter named Mabel Mildred MOE married to Frank Brownie (aka Spyro Kavadias - from Greece) in 1924 and had one son, Robert George Kavadias BROWNIE (my Dad). I believe Mabel was born in California in 1907.

Chris Moe

Chris Moe, 79, whose hobby of intricate wood carving and woodworking was known to many Portlanders, died Wednesday in his sleep at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Buckner, 10029 N.E. Liberty street, friends with whom he was living.

Mr. Moe, who had lived in Portland since 1921, was born in Norway, coming to the United States 51 years ago and settling in Sioux City, Ia.

His business was contracting and building, but it was through his hobby of wood carving that he became best known. There are no surviving relatives.

Hope he has relatives out there.

Dorothy, adopted daughter to Alfred Moe & Orilla Conners

Alfred Moe (b. 1896) married Orilla Conners sometimes betweek 1910 and 1920, and they lived in Seattle. They had a son (Frank Lester Moe, born 1919). They also adopted Orilla's sister's child, who was living with them in 1930.

Dorothy Conners/Moe (known by both at varying times) was born to Olive Beatrice Conners Legg and Ben Legg in July 1914. The Legg family is from Issaquah; we have quite a bit of research information on them and I am interested to find out what happened to Dorothy after 1930, and if any of her descendents would like family tree information from that side.
