Hello

Has anyone come across an Emil Moll, born c1892 in Germany, a hotel waiter in Westminster, London, on the 1911 census. His father was August, a restaurant proprietor. Emil married my grandmother, Elizabeth Purvis, at St Pancras register office, London, on 6th August 1914. My mother was born soon after and her birth certificate gives her fathers name as Charles Emil Moll.
It is thought that Emil was taken to a POW camp on the Isle of Man during WW1, and on release, did not return to England.

If anyone can help, please get in touch.

I have been working on my wife's MOLL family tree in England for several years.
I have Abraham Moll (b.abt. 1798)a carpenter coming from Hockwold cum Wilton Norfolk around 1821 and on through his descendants in the Dover,Kent area.
Many other families are included on the way, some reaching much further back, almost all of it has been researched online (with quite a lot of head scratching at times!!)
The tree has not been 'published' in Ancestry at this time.
I believe he was the a brother to Julia Habel Moll and son to Justina Ely Habel (Wagner). John Sr. was my wife's grandfather. Do you have anything about Justina and before? Thanks in advance for any help.

Mike, this isn't rocket science -- it's just one researcher sharing with others when a great source is discovered. Here's the info:

source:

Western Historical Manuscript Collection
23 Ellis Library, U. of Mo.
Columbia, Missouri 65201-5149
voice 573-882-6028 | fax 573-884-0345 | WHMC@umsystem.edu

Acc. 4803; Moll, J.R.; Box 1 of 4

The U. of Missouri has campuses in 4 cities: Columbia, Kansas City, Rolla & St. Louis. The manuscript collection may be viewed at any one of them, but it takes a couple of days for boxes to be retrieved from storage caves, so one must call ahead to request this. The WHMC has a web site at http://whmc.umsystem.edu/

That's the good news; the bad news is that there isn't really any more on your family other than the charts that I have summarized. But they are something to behold, as they fold out and are quite large.

As to your other question, the numbers are generational numbers. My genealogy software generates descendant reports that neatly nest all the descendants of a patriarch in such a way that one can readily see relationships, but that visual doesn't transfer here. So I'm using this number system to substitute for the indentations that one would normally see. If, for instance, a "3" follows a "2," then "3" is the child of "2." But if "2" follows "3" on the next line, then a branch has been exhausted and the chart is moving on to a sibling's branch. So, yes, you have it correct that these are both sons of Michael.

Hi Gordon

Thank you immensely for your posting. There are several Molls on this list that were my ancesters and are known to me! But also so, so much more info you provide which I have hoped to find for many years. Where did you get this info?!
You are a genius!

Jacob Moll of Breslau for example married 2 Kohn sisters, Louise and later Henriette. Jacob and his 2nd wife died in the Viennese Ring theatre fire of 1881. They are buried in the central Vienna cemetary along with Max aged 28 and Hedwig aged 25 who all perished together in that tragic furnace. Jacob's daughter Elise Moll whose photo hangs in my dining room married Jacques Rose- with a French acute accent on the final e though he was born in Beuthen -and they were the parents of my maternal grandfather who I loved with all my heart - he lived in Vienna but came to England in the Hitler years after his release from Dachau. I still have Jacob Moll's will. I am grateful for the names of his ancesters but do not know quite understand the numbers on your list. This system is new to me you see. Do I take it for example that Michael was the father of Jacob b. 1840 and is Arthur b. 1842 the brother of Jacob?
Shalom, Mike.

Jewish MOLLs in Germany (now Poland) pt. 2 of 2

This is everything else I have been able to find from the Collection I have used. There does not appear to be a match with your men.

These MOLLs are principally from Lissa, Posen, Germany (now Leszno, Poland); Breslau, Silesia, Germany (now Wroclaw, Poland); and later Berlin. The information is taken from a chart in the Justus Moll papers of the Western Historical Manuscripts Collection of the University of Missouri (4 campuses, each with an archives office serving the WHMC). My notes are as true to the chart as possible, and therefore preserve the original German. The line headings in English were generated by my software. I have had to number the generations, rather than using the indentations the software employs.

1. Israel MOLL
& Henriette DRESDENER
2. Abraham MOLL
2. Michael J. MOLL (b. 1819; d. 3 Feb 1882, Lissa)
occ. Rauschwarenhandlung in Lissa
& Marianne GOLDSCHMIDT
3.
I'm looking to obtain pictures of the headstones of Julius Moll, Daniel and Barbara Frasch. And any other son/daughter of Daniel and Barbara Frasch. They are buried in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Fairfax, SD. I have Dorothea Frasch Molls headstone picture as she is interred at the Dow City Cemetery in Iowa near her daughter Edith Moll Kolln. Since I am in North Carolina I have no way of getting to South Dakota. Any help woul be appreciated. Also do you have any idea where I can get a copy of the book "Saga of the Missouri River Reveille" by Adeline Gnirk? Thank you, Linda Stone_Kollm

Their daughter Elaine, was in my class all through the school years. I would be glad to share information if you want to contact me by e-mail. I have several files on the Frasch family as the result of other queries.

I currently live in Arkansas but plan a trip to Fairfax this summer and if you haven't gained your photo's by that time, I would be happy to do so.

Gordon/ Mike and all

I have found out more on the Internet about my Prussian ancestors than my father probably ever knew, even though he lived in Emden as a boy, but snippets of family legend enabled me to connect with a namesake cousin in Nairobi. With the help of his sister in England, we have got back to the birth and baptism of Friedrik Heinrich Ludwig Raphael Moll in February 1846 in Breslau (a Jewish connection can't be ruled out) and the marriage of his parents, Heinrich August E.A. Moll and Maria Elisabeth Wiesner in Berlin in October 1848, coupled with a baby sister's baptism and followed by a host of other siblings being born.
Most of the brothers migrated to England to join the cable telegraph industry - the IT revolution of its day - and I still have some resources on them to research, but we have so far hit a brick wall regarding birth dates for Heinrich August and Maria (both from Breslau?), even though the Kenyan Peter's sister has some talent for dealing with German/ Polish bureaucracy and reading the old script.
My parents had some Prussian family portaits of what they said were judges, but these were destroyed in England by vandals who broke into the shed where they were stored
Best wishes

Peter Moll
Tortola, BVI

I have been aware of a namesake in South Africa for many years, but only recently asked him if he might be related to my cousin in Nairobi (also Peter Moll) and me, descended from migrants to England from Berlin and Breslau in the mid 1800s. From his reply it seemed more likely that his family roots were Dutch, but I shall draw his attention to this thread, with the possibility that they go back to Germany in the early 1700s

Peter Moll
Tortola, BVI

Your Edward Moll is my great-great grandfather. (I knew that my great-grandfather's name was James Moll, but didn't know who his father was.) James Moll was my father's grandfather - we have a picture of him and Sabina Snyder Moll in our living room. I know of at least 2 of their children - 1) James Moll, whose wife died in the great influenza epidemic after which his mother (Sabina) moved in to take care of him and his only daughter Mildred and 2)Harvey Moll (my grandfather)who married Mamie Wescoe Jacoby. They had 7 children, one of who was my father Phillip Moll.

In your search in Unterheimbach, Wuerttemberg did you discover a Henry Moll? I know this is a common name. The only information I have on him is that he was born in Wuerttemburg, Germany and immigrated to America, first settling in Wisconsin in 1847 and late in Minnesota in 1865. He married Caroline Essig in 1866. THey had 14 children.

Re: MOLLs in Germany, and German research generally…

Yes, I have a MOLL connection but it is originally from Mecklenburg, in the city of Neustrelitz. From it I have developed an interest in the surname generally. I have often posted to both Rootsweb and to the Genforum message boards where I believe I have something of interest for others --especially in regard to the manuscript collection I have described. Many of my posts were done in earlier years under similar, but different, email addresses, and thus do not show up under a search of my posting history with my @mac.com email address.

Recently I submitted a 34-page monograph on my MOLL ancestry to several libraries and to the Genealogy Soc. of Utah (LDS) -- which will both film and digitize it. In a few months it should be possible to go to familysearch.org and reference it on-line. It reports on my MOLL maternal grandmother's parents (MOLL being her paternal side) and also her immigrant aunts and uncles on both sides (to the extent that I know of them). As to my grandmother's MOLL grandfather I have not only discovered that his was an illegitimate birth, but I have also documented his presence in six different cities, four in Germany and two in the U.S.

I have learned that German research is not easy, but that it is very rewarding. Thus it has become my genealogical specialty. And I have found that it pays to persevere in the search. Recently, on my paternal (SEYFFERT) side, I made contact with a U.S. distant cousin through an allied WAGNER line who has a book of family records begun by an ancestor of ours in 1640. I have to go back 200 years to make the connection, but then his records and the church records take me back yet another 200 years. Incredible!

1. Ruben MOLL (d. 1780), occ. Rabinatsassessor zu Lissa.
2.

I've pretty much reached a dead end here. I know my great-great grandfather, Henry Moll arrived here from Germany with two sons, Henry F and John. I have not been able to determine when they arrrived except it was possibly around 1865 or so. I haven't been able to determine their port of entry or a spouse for my great-great grandfather. I am decended from Henry F. I'm finding a little bit of information on the two sons showing their residences in Baltimore but nothing on their father. He is a true inigma. I'm suspecting he arrived here through New York City and may have settled in Pennsylvania and then the two sons migrated to Baltimore. No evidence of that, though.

Diana,

This is Chris Moll (our ancestry.com subscription is under my wife, Jacquelyn's name, thus the change of user name). I was able to visit Urloffen with my father in the Spring of 2001; it is not very far from Strasbourg, France and we hired a taxi driver to take us to Urloffen for the day. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet up with Karl Heinz as he was out of town when we visited. We e-mailed back forth for a while, but have lost touch since then. We plan to make another trip hopefully in 2009 to do some more research.

We visited the Courthouse with the Urloffen Coat of Arms (which is a castle) and St. Martin's Church. There's a memorial to the men from Urloffen who perished in World War I and World War II and there is at least one Moll on there from WWI. I have a few pictures that I took when we visited.

My line is from Egidius Moll -> Franz Josef (or Joseph Francis) Moll -> Louis Moll -> Fred Moll -> Leo Moll who was my grandfather. The majority of them resided at one point or another in Perry County, MO and Eudora/Olathe, KS. Doing research, it looks like there were several reunions for our line of Moll's in the 1930's in Kansas. I have never met any of our KS/MO relatives as my grandfather Leo moved his family to Texas.

Regards,

Chris Moll

George,

We might be talking about different Egidius' but from the same line; I think there were several. The one I mentioned in my line above was my great-great-great-great grandfather (I think he also had a son and possibly a grandson named Egidius too, whom you might be referring to) and he emigrated from Germany in 1831 and fought against Napoleon as a professional soldier before that.

Chris Moll

Hi Bernie: I only have the MOLLs in Maryland via the STIEFEL family and the book, "Family Diversity" by Nancy Lee Waters. I visited Unterheimbach a couple years ago and have church records from my MOLL family back to the mid-1700s. Other than my immediate family (to the US in 1860s) I have not been able to find any other MOLLs who are in the states. I know there are at least a few who settled in the Cincinnati area, but have not been able to make contact with any of their offspring. Is this a relation to you as well? Keep me posted!

Hi SDWalker: I have five Heinrich/Henry MOLLs in my tree, however, based on church records I believe all died in Germany. Sorry I can't be more help. BTW, I did look at all variations (i.e., Christian Heinrich, Friedrich Heinrich, etc.). Also, I don't have an ESSIG in my tree. Bev Colgin
