Monat family in Germany

I am looking for info on the Monat family from Germany. My great-great grandmother was Catharine Monat(born 1877). She married Gerhard Leuckenotte. Her father's name was Peter Monat Sr.(born 1852 in Germany) My Monat family originally comes from France but went to Germany, possibly due to persecution.

Hello, it has been a while since your post. I am looking for Monats as well. My family legend says that we were French Hugenots and possibly forced out of France when the Edict of Nantes was revoked in 1685. I have found my Monats in Germany (Pirmasens to be precise) in 1760. This is as far back as I have gone however, Pirmasens is right on the French Border so if they were pushed out of France this make sense. Hugenots fled from France into Germany, England, Ireland and America. They basically went anywhere that was safe at the time. Also, see below. Good luck with your research. Please feel free to email me: anna_clarkson@hotmail.com

monat
1. French: unexplained. Perhaps a respelling of Monatte, a habitational name from either of two localities named La Monatte: in Craponne-sur-Arzon in Haute-Loire, or Saint-Bonnet-le Coureau in Loire.
2. Jewish (Ashkenazic): ornamental name from German Monat ‘month’.

I am 16 years old and I am living in Massachusetts. I was wondering where Monats are and what their connections are to Europe. I've been searching, and so far I have found threads to Ireland, Scotland, Poland, Canada, France and Germany. True?
