I am looking for my husbands grandfathers family. They are from Gracefield,Quebec. My husbands grandfather is Alfred Edward Monette, born in 1901 in Gracefield, Quebec and died in July 1992in Spokane, Washington, USA son of John Monette and Martha Petrin. Alfred and John "Jack" came to the United State in the 1920. Jack and Alfred lived and worked in Spokane, Wa. John Monette was the son of Zepherin and Dinahano. Martha Petrin it the daughter of Pascil Petrin.

I AM LOOKING FOR INFO ON ELIE MONETTE. IN THE 1881 CADADIAN CENSUS IT STATES THAT HE WAS MARRIED TO GUELEMMIE AND HAD A SON ALBERT. CENSUS PLACE WAS OTTAWA WARD, OTTAWA, CARLETON, ONTARIO. I ALSO HAVE RECORD THAT HE MARRIED ELIZABETH HANNAH LACOUNT ON MARCH 12, 1926. ELIZABETH WAS BORN JANUARY 20,1896 IN THAMESVILLE, KENT, ONTARIO, CANADA.

Does anyone have a copy of "The History of the Miss. Valley" by Dr. John Wesley MONNETTE or "The HULL Family in Amer" by Col. C.H. WEYGANT, pub 1913? A quote from these books reads; "He found Mrs. HULL at her Sandusky Street home in Findlay (Hancock Co.) and told her of an old German Bible which contains many records of the BRAUCHER Family". I am a BRAUCHER and would like to know more about this Bible. I have tried to track down these two books through the public library system but have been informed that the copies that exist in the public system are considered reference materials and cannot be borrowed. I live in California and can't get back to Ohio to read a copy for myself.

I was just now reading in Wikipedia about Louisiana and its history and its people, when I actually saw my mother's family name, "Monette" printed as one of the old family surnames of the area. You can find it under "Cane River Creoles." So then, out of curiosity, I decided to Google the name, and when I tried Googling "Monettes of Louisiana" I found your post. When I read it, I couldn't believe my eyes. I re-read it several times.

I was not looking for family, just surfing the net when I saw your post, but when I remembered what day it was: 10/18/08, I knew I had to write to you. You see, today was my mother's birthday. My mother was also a Monette. She was born in New Orleans in 1917, and her mother was an Alexis, born in New Orleans around 1889. Also, there was an Uncle Ernest in the family. I'm in shock! I would love to hear from you.

John Monette would be my great grandfathers brother - I have from the 1920 census that he was married to Nellie and they have children Stella, Sarah, Delia, Helena, Verie, Floyd, Walter and Viola. His brothers are William (my great grandfather), Thomas, Joseph, Frank, and Fred. Sounds like we're related also.

My great grandparents are William & Edith. My grandfather is Delphus who would be Alberts cousin)...My father is Delphus Jr...and you and he would be 2nd cousins...so that would make me a 3rd cousin to you or something like that. Let me know. William had a brother Samuel whose wife is Edith and they have children Dora, Bessie, Bertha, Norman and Albert. At least thats all I had at the census I found this in. Thomas married Madeline and they had 9 children. John married Nellie4 and they had 8 children. Joseph married Jenny and they had 5 children . William married Edith and they had 10 children. Frank married Anna and they had 5 children.
These were from the 1920 census...I haven't done anything in a long while. I need to get back to it. I would love to see what you have also.

Hi Shelley, you stated you have traced the Monette to the first generation. I am missing a Louise Monette dit Boismenu that married a Joseph Gareau. Would you by any chance have come across this couple ? I have been unable to find a marriage for them, but the time period would be about 1845-46 as the first child I have for them was baptized in Curran Ontario in Feb 1846. The record states from the "lawful marriage", but I don't know where, or when ??
My Louise and her husband settled in Ogdensburg, St Lawrence Co. not too far from yours. Her parents were Jean Baptiste and Marguerite Lauzon born in St Benoit Deux Montagnes.
I have been searching for this marriage for almost 9 years, and I have 7 children for them, and where they spend their final years, but have not found the most important part.

My name is Sherry Monette, My father is Richard Sylvenus Monette, son of Sylvenus Monette. Sylvenus lived most of his life in Belmont. I think Sylvenus had a wife named Ann. My father had a brother name Bobbie who died at a yound age from an accident.

I have info on J.B. Monette & Luce Maisonneuve who settled in Angers around 1850 they where from Ste-Scholastique, county of Deux-Montagnes.

Are you looking for a Jesse(?)(went by Patricia) Feasey who married an Emile Monette? I believe this is the same WWII fighter pilot; the 1st Canadian airman wounded in WWII. He is my grandfather on my dad's side, and my namesake.

I'm looking for any information on Moses and Ellen Monette from Mooers, NY; they were born in the 1860's in Champlain. They were my great-grandparents on my mother's side. Their daughter Eva, my grandmother, moved to MA around 1920, and I believe Ellen passed away around this time. At some point Moses remarried a woman named Eliza. Some of my grandmother's siblings were Sadie, Ida, Carrie, Harry and Elmer. I know that there were others.
I would very much like to know when Moses and Ellen died, and where they are buried.

Born abt. 1828 in Alabama.
He had a son named after himself, born 1865 in Selma, AL.
This second A.J. had a son named Melvin Sadler Monette, born 1900 in TN.

The 1828 A.J. is my GG-GF, but I lose his family line with him.

My mother is also a Monette, her father is george Monette,born sometime in 1885. He was born in new orleans and I believe his father's name was joseph,i know he had a brother named ernest and we have relatives in the garanje family and dunn,the alexis,lacour, i believe the pichon,married into these families and many others,not unusual to marry into other creole families. I feel it is so important to find one another since hurricane Katrina, a lot of families have moved to nearby texas,atlana, could this same thing have separated families before. My relatives include,valteau,wiltz,rouzan,ashton,stewart,junes,franklins,But the monette family was where it all started for all of us. A large family of monette brothers and sisters.

look at jelly roll morton , google him and you will find his mother was a monette in new orleans and there are a lot of them. My mother is a monette also and i am trying to trace our roots as well. Her father was george monette, whose father was ernest monette.

I have a whole line of Monettes on my mother's father's side of the family and have seen the name didt Boismenu in the line. Go to OneWorldTree and you'll find a lot of them. My family is from Quebec, Canada and there are still some in New York. We could be the same line but it will take some work to determine if we are. Have you entered your line on Ancestry.com and are you on OneWorldTree?

Paul, thanks for your followup to an old post. Just getting back into the sleuthing after a computer crash and new baby girl. Yes, I am interested in exchanging information. Luce Maissoneuve and JB Monette are direct ancestors of mine, and am eager to trace them back further than Angers, and their ancestors. I have a fair amount on their descendents but not much on their ancestors (in fact I have no ancestors for JB). I can share GEDCOM files if you can tell me what you'd like me to share. Anything you can share would be appreciated.

Yes...this is the area of northern ny and just above the canadian border where I have found my line of Monette's. I even found a street named Monette right off the route 15 that goes into Montreal.

I have figured out pretty much the line down to my father, starting with the Monette's who first came to Canada.

I have them in my tree here at Ancestry. It's open to the public... let me know if it's the same family line. I will take a look at one world tree also....I have marriage announcements of the dit Boismenu family. Let me know if you would like a copy of that. ....take care
