Do you know his parents names? I know his father was born in France. His father's mother was French & his father was Scottish and from Scottland. But as far as the pictures I had them posted on-line and for some reason the the account at family.com was closed and the hard copies I had got lost in a move I made some years ago. I'm sorry but if you cotact Jack he has the same pictures. Jack's another family member. Jack's mother or G. mother was Mary Frances and he has a beauiful family site. I hope that helps in your search but if you have or come across his (Chris's) parents names can you please let me know. Thank you, Carole

Thanks for your reply to my posting.

I have very little information about Robert. What I do I have was gleaned from public records:

ROBERT S. MONROE was born about 1833. He was discharged at Chattanogga, Tennessee, at the expiration of his term of service. He might have applied for pension on November 4, 1872 (unreadable). The pension application also records that Robert served in the 147th Regiment, PVI, but that is not corroborated by Bates. Robert was living at 1228 North 27th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1890.

Monroe, Robert S.: Date of Muster - July 6, 1861; Discharged July 20, 1864

Hi.

I'm not sure if your connections is the same to the Munro connection into my Halley line, but here's the information I have so far for my line:

Catherine Munro (b. 1885 in Glasgow) married James Murray Halley (b. 1898 in Edinburgh) and immigrated over to Canada and then down to Boston after 1920.

Catherine's parents were Emily Ray Humphrey (b. PA moved to Glasgow) and Duncan Munro (b. Kelinsford, Ayrshire) and her siblings were Minnie, Violet, Louise, Ida, Willy, Alexander, and Duncan.

James' parents were Alexander Halley (b. Isle of Man) and Anna Baines (b. Edinburgh) and his siblings were Alexander, William, Edward, Robert, Jeanette, and Kitty.

There were and awful lot of Monroes also in SC who had their roots in NC and Va--tracking back from there can be fruitful sometimes. However, in my case I have not been able to get any further back with my Monroe ancestor, Henry Munroe who was born in SC, migrated to Haywood county, NC in the very early 1800's (unusual backward migration). He then disappears after 1830 but his sons were still there as late as 1840. Munroe and Monroe were very common interchanges in spelling. Anyone ever come across this Henry Munroe or his known sons, Daniel P. and Samuel Monroe?

My name is Amanda and I am from Louisville, Ky. I have been searching for photos of my grand father. My grand mother passed away a few years ago and her husband took everything. All of our family photos were lost. I can not explain to you what that did to my family. My real grand father was her 3rd husband. He was a wonderful man and very handsom. His army photos and other photos of him were lost forever when she died. I joined this site and found very little so I cancled my membership. At work today I asked my boss if the army kept those photos on file. We googled my grand fathers name like I have done many times before and your post popped up. That man in that photo with your grand father is my grand father. I cried! I can not begin to tell you what that photo means to me and my family. Please if you could mail me a copy I will pay for the copy and postage. You can contact me at 931-249-4818. God bless you and your family. Thank you, Amanda Lamotte

I don't have any Elisha Monroe in any of the names, but the name Martha comes up quite a bit in different generations all the way through to my Great Grandmother. I do have William Monroe and Hannah Edwards had a daughter Martha E. Monroe born 1838. I only have James & Malinda (married 1792)having as of right now 5 children and they are William (my 3rd gr grandfather)b.1793-1877-whom married Hannah Edwards, Robert b. 1796-1882, John, Elizabeth & Alexander I do not have birth dates. Thats not to say there couldn't have been a child from first marriage or a child not listed/that has not been found yet. His first wife was Sally Willis; but I assumed the name Martha came from Hannah Edwards mother Martha Kesner. But who knows. At this time I don't have any information on Elisha Monroe, not to say he wasn't one. I find information all the time he very well could be one of there children.

I am a descendant of William Monroe & Rachel Piper; they had a son Alexander b.1710 d 1786 Carters Run Valley, Fauquier Co., VA; married Margaret"Peggy" Lang. There son James Monroe 1st wife was Sally Willis/no children known; 2nd wife my descendant Malinda Hunton (1st marr name was Settle); they had son William Monroe b. 1793 VA d. 1876 married Hannah Edwards; they had a son Robert Monroe b 1821 d.1897 Wirt Co., WV; he married Drusilla McBride; my great grandmother Martha Frances Monroe b. 16 Mar 1858 d.28 Oct 1937 she married George McDonald Jones; whom then was my grandmother Estella Cleveland Jones; whom married William Marshall Jones; my father Cleo S. Jones- then me. I will be glad to answer some other dates I have; a lot of information is gotten from there death certificates that I have found; family history that had been wrote down through the years. Older family members knew story and kept track. I will be glad to work with anyone that contacts me and share what I have. I still have some questions in the 1600's is where I get messed up or confused; some say Alexander was born in Scotland; that info came from History of Preston Co., WV with William/Rachel- Alexander & Peggy- the minister she came over from Scotland to marry Alexander because she could not in Scotland. If you make contact with me I will be glad to work with you.

Hello, I am a Monroe relation and believe that your James and Nancy are also my ancestors. I grew up where they lived and have a friend (cousin) who is definitely in their direct line. We have about 5 families of Monroes who lived, & worked together within miles, bought and sold land from each other, but we have not yet found any record definitely connecting the families - would love to talk with you to find out if you might have a kernal of info that we lack. AND, we definitely have Curtis connections. Your post is old, but I'm hoping you'll see this (or did I do this post years ago?
