Speaking to an Author/Expert on Hispanic Genealogy the Spanish origin of the name MONTE hails from Northern Spain where there are about 8 villages with the name MONTE. He was sure my family line would be from one of the eight...only way to be sure or to discover, is to go to them and speak with the villagers.
My Great Grandfather was Felice MONTE who married Sebastiana Marrero (half Mexican, half Native American Indian); at the time of their marriage, they lived in Mayaquez,Puerto Rico. They had 3 Sons: Juan Eraquio MONTE (my Grandfather, Pedro MONTE and Dionisio MONTE.
My Grandfather John Eraquio MONTE departed Mayaguez in 1900 and went to the Hawaiian Islands - he was a 'Luna' at the Makiki Agricultural Experiment Station. In 1914 - he opened The MONTE Dairy, in Makiki area. He married Annie Mo'ohihio Lahaina, from Moalua, Kau District, Big Island, Hawaii. They had 3 Sons - John Jr. (my Father), Peter MONTE and Henry Dionisio MONTE.
