Margaret,

Could we have a link here. My g.grandfather George Monument was born in Cleadon, Durham around 1877. He married a Clara Gibbin and (amongst others) had a son James Henry.

All I know above George, is his father was Henry Monument, born 1836ish in Kings Lynn. He married an Eliza from Leamington. As well as George, there were brothers called Henry, Frederick, Charles, Arthur and Herbert

Do we have a link or an unfortunate coincidence?

Linda,
You have just hit paydirt! I have just found your rootsweb
message board re subj ancestry. I am descended from
Thomas(1830), whose daughter Mary Ann came to the states in 1888 and married, here, Robert Pilch of N.Elmham.
Thomas, as you say, is the son of John(1795) and Mary Purdy; John is the son of William(1747) and Sarah (Hutchen);
Wm is the son of John and Ann (Topclife); John is the son
of Edmund (1688/9) and Amy (reeve); Edmund is the son of Edmund and Elizabeth (Andrews?). If you can provide me with your snailmail address, I will forward additional info.

I am also reseaching Monuments. Have recently discovered via the 1881 census that my Monuments were living in Durham, but the place of birth is Heacham, Norfolk.
My g,g,grandfather was Robert Monument born about 1818.
Maybe we have some connection. I will let you know when I get more info.

I am looking for info on my Monument ancestors. William Monument narried Sarah & they had a son John born1795 in Elmham, Norfolk. He married Mary and they had three children that I know of; Thomas (1830), John (1836) and Sarah Ann (1838) all born in Guist, Norfolk. Sarah Ann married John Buck on 26 Jul 1863 in Guist and they had a daughter also called Sarah Ann on 4 Nov 1863 in Stibbard.
