Hello,
I am part of large extended Moody family group of 5th-8th degree cousins interested in Moody genealogy. We all descend from Clement Moody a number of whose grandsons and descendants settled in various parts of ME including Bingham, Industry, Solon, as well as Gardiner and Pittston, Shapleigh and Alfred and so many other towns. There is going to be a reunion in September to be held one day in Monmouth and the second day at the Stratton Manor, originally the home of Clement Moody descendant, Leonard Moody of Pittston, ME.(and NYC). That will be a good place to send out feelers for recognition of the name Sylvain or any of his children. Some cousins dont have email.

It does appear that Sylvain Brown Moody's mother,Mercy E., married Samuel Lake first, then had a probably short marriage to a Moody before marrying Otis Hobart. Because of the census we can't tell Mr. Moody's given name, but Maine was pretty good at keeping marriage records, so a search of either Somerset Co.or Gardiner (Kennebec Co.) could turn something up.

I would venture a guess that your Sylvain could well be a Clement Moody descendant. If you are interested in our group, please email me.

Below, is what I found on Sylvain, some or all of which you may also already have:
