I just found your message of March 2008 on the Moor page.
I am also researching Israel Moor and specifically his daughter Agnes who, as you noted, married a Beard. Beard is my line. Your research is excellent and more complete than mine to this point. Thank you for posting it.
I have here Janie Revill's Compilation of Protestant Immigrants to South Carolina, which it appears you studied also.
From that I have a big question concerning Agnes Moor(e) / Beard. I also would love to find out where in Ireland Izrael Moor had come from. Have you had any luck with that since you posted?
Please contact me via this Board and I will send you my direct email. Thank you so much!
Nancy Wilson

Marshall and Moor

In 1767, William Marshall and wife Elizabeth with children Robert, Jannet, Mary, and Jane arrive in Charleston on the ship Earl of Donegal. They were Protestants from Ireland taking advantage of the SC Act of 1761. In 1768, Izrael Moor(e) and wife Nancy with children William, Izrael, Richard, John, Elizabeth, Jane, Christian, Ann, and Elnor arrive also in Charleston on the Brigatine Chichester. They were also protestants from Ireland coming under the same Act of 1761. These 2 families go from Charleston to the Camden District. They possibly new each other in Ireland, but after arriving Robert Marshal and Christian Moore marry ca 1774. Robert has a plat of land (100) acres located in Camden District on Singletons creek in 1788 and is on the 1790 Camden district census. Izrael Moore dies ca 1782 leaving a will in Camden district, also on Singletons creek in which he names Israel Moor, Samuel Moor, Elizabeth Kimbal, Jane M. McCullough, Christian Marshall, Agnes Beard, Elinor Moor, James Bredin and Mary Bredin. I know that Robert Marshall and wife Christian(na) move some time after 1790 to Sumner County, TN where he dies and leaves a will. This will is signed in 1803, a codicil is added and dated January 1804 and the estate is inventoried in June 1804. Mentioned in the will is his land on Singletons Creek in SC. Two of his witnesses are Isral Moore and William Moore- presumed to be brothers-in-law. The widow and some of her children then leave TN for Christian County, KY. I am looking for other serious researchers also working these or connected lines. I would like to know more of their time in SC, what were their activities during the revolutionary war, and I would also like to pursue this family back to Ireland. Thanks for any help. Will work with and share further information.

Hi Ray,

Here are my Moor's/Moore's
The earliest ones mentioned where the Aunt and Niece that married Wilkinson Brothers in County Antrim, Ireland. There decendents came to America about 1712-1725. Three brothers Joseph, Samuel and Thomas Wilkinson, three sisters, one married to a Moor, one married to a Graham, and one married to a Taylor along with a cousin Francis Wilkinson came together. All are said to be decendent of the *Irish Champion Big Billy Moor* I have yet to find out who he is.

The next Moore's listed are: (I do not know who Moses' parents are and it the are connected to the group that came in the 1700's
Moses Moore married Jane Unknown. They had three children:
John Moore who married Rebecca Ware daughter of Robert and Rebecca Wear
Nancy Moore who married John Ware abt 1781 John is the son of Robert and Rebecca Wear. Nancy died in 1800 in Cape Girardeau, Spanish Territory of Malaria or Ague and is buried there.
Moses Moore who married Jane Unknown.

The Elder Moses served as an officer in the Rev War. The few records that have been found refer to him as "Capt Moses Moore"

There are references to Capt. Moses Moore having taken a Company of 67 men to Georgia in 1779 and to his having been engaged in the Battle of King's Mountain.

Said to be related to the Irish Champain "Big Billy Moor"

Hope this helps
Sheila
I tried to get them but they were "inadvertently" lost.
I also have Charlotte married to a Long.
Thanks,
Dianne

Even though as of yet, nobody has replied to my query, I didn't want to just let it stay a query. I want to let it be known that after 3 years of searching we finally found the long lost family graveyard.

We found 4 stone, 2 of which were unreadable but Rosanna Moore's, although fallen down, we could make out her name and the other stone, we were only able to make out _____inson Moore.

There may have been more stones but the area was covered with undergrowth, trees, bushes, and the like. We were disappointed to have found no Fincher's, but we hope to go back in a month or so, when leaves are down and snakes are gone, to search the area more thoroughly and take pictures of the stones.

Warm Regards,
Joy Fincher Atkinson

The birth order of these children is: son, son, daughter. The girl is about 4 years old in the photo. Unfortunately I have no other info. The name of the studio cannot be read. The corner was torn off and tape back together (fortunately it was taped back) prior to my owning the photo. Surely someone knowledgeable of Cheboygan studios could identify the studio name. The last few letters are somewhat visible. With the studio name, the photo could be dated. I can be reached at aholmes@remax.net.

Looking for the family of Charlotte Woodruff Moor/Moore born Salisbury Vermont 3/24/1822. DAR Linage chart shows Moor for maiden name. Woodruff could be mothers maiden name. Trying to link her to Loyal Madison Moore born AB 1808 Vermont, county and city/village unknown. Charlotte married Andrew Jackson Damp in Albany NY. DAR Linage says edest child born 1852-3. According to the 1870 census the oldest child (Georgianna) was 23, so they were married at least in 1847. Linage shows that records are from 1st Lutheran Church Albany, NY. According to DAR Linage Charlotte died in Dayton, Oregon 6/2/1897. Couldn't find in cemetery info in Yamhill County where Dayton is located.

C. B. Compton
