Hello, I have not heard of Flossie...but my grandpa, Ernest Oscar Moose, lived in Stony Point, NC as a young man. He was the son of James Peter Moose and Mary "Molly" Benfield Moose. They had: Ernest Oscar, James Daily, Jettie Sue, Carrie Edna, and Carl. I have "heard" that Molly died in childbirth delivering Carl....or shortly thereafter. After that happened, the kids were dispersed and the two daughters are listed as "SERVANTS" in several census listings. Can you imagine...7 yrs. old and a SERVANT?? mercy. I guess those were hard times. Anyway, the words Stoney Point caught my eye, and I wanted to reply. Who knows, we may be distant cousins. Am unsure about the names of James Peter Mooses parents. Thanks, Lucinda

Who is John M. Moose's father? He is on the 1880 census in Montague County (TX) with his wife and children. He is buried in Montague County Cemetary. He died of an accident 1898. I have some of his civil war service information.

I am looking for more information on this entire family especially his parents and wife's (sally)parents. This is my husband's great grandfather. We are excited to finally find someone with some information. Thanks!

We also have Moose family from nearby areas (Conemaugh, South Fork, and also Richland township). We go back on the Moose side as far as one Henry Moose born about 1830 and married to a (Susanna)Anna Elizabeth Ford. He is buried near Johnstown. We have everyone of his descendants well-documented.
Do you know if James had any brothers? Seems that going that far back, there could not have been that many Moose family members without them being at least cousins.

Hello, cousin! My father is Wayne Nelson Moose, son of Harvey Willis Moose, brother to Sandy Moose. Frank Moose is my great-grandfather. I have a typed history of the Moose family that my dad's cousin had made, and it includes James and Elias and quite a few others. It has a nice bit of info in it, the marriages, births, deaths. I have it packed away but will get it out and send you any info you may not have. If I'm not mistaken, this branch of the Moose family originated in Holland, then moved to Germany in the 1700s. I believe the name then was Musbarger. My dad still visits the Brush Valley gang (as I call them) on occasion, and has written a story detailing a lot of their youthful exploits. I think the museum there has copies of it. At any rate, I'll look for the genealogy I have and get back with you. If you wish to contact me personally, my email address is vbrown1072@aol.com

Hi - My father was Harvey Glenn Moose from Indiana Pa. His father, Sandy Ambrose Moose had a brother Harvey and they lived in the Brush Valley area of Indiana County. Wondering if he was your grandfather or somehow related? Sandy's Father was Frank Moose (1862-1928). His father was James Moose (1836-1901). His father was Elias Moose (born 1800). Here my trail ends and I am looking for more information on Elias and his roots.

The Moose brothers landed in NC in 1836 and spread out over the East coast. 3 of them made it to Texas, a little town called Kerrville (where my family all resides now). John was my Great Great Great (?) Grandfather's brother. I can see what other information I can get from my PawPaw and let you know.

My family of Moose's descends from Milo Moose. He and his father George Moose and a few brothers moved into the Mercer and Lawrence County area of Western PA around the beginning of the 20th century according to what I've seen on here. According to trees published on here he was descended from the John J Mussgnug line, but I have no way of verifying this.

I've heard stories that a lot of his relatives were Mennonites, and some are buried in Mennonite graveyards around New Wilmington PA. Milo was not Amish however (my understanding is that when the Mennonites transitioned into Amish they left the Church?), he died Presbyterian, and most of the Mooses in the Mercer County area are Presbyterian. There are a lot of them in that county by the way.

The Samuel Moose family lived in Powhattan, Brown Co., Kans. in 1885 (per state census). My great-grandparents, James W. and Anna O'Brien later lived in Horton, Brown Co., Kans.(moved there from Wichita ca. 1894). In 1931, their son Earl, my grandfather, moved his family to Kit Carson County, Colo., near Burlington, and they lived with Frank Moose (1882-1963) and his sister, Ida Storey (sp?) in a sod house. After several months they moved to the home of a Creekpaum family, which seems to have been connected to Frank's sister Della. Have you come across any O'Brien connections in your Moose research? I'm trying to find out why the O'Briens would have moved to another state to live with this family, when it appears they must have only known each other from the time the Mooses lived in Brown Co., Kans. According to the Illinois marriage index, Samuel O. Moose married Nancy A. Birdsell in Sangamon Co., Illinois, 15 Sep 1864.

Yes we are talking about the same Daniel Webster Moose. He was born 13 Jan 1875 Cabarrus, and died 20 Aug 1931 in Iredell. He was the son of Christopher Columbus Moose, and his 2nd wife Catherine _____ Honeycutt. I am trying to find Catherine's maiden name. The marriage license says "daughter of John and Rachel Penner" but there were no Penners in the counties, and I couldn't find a Catherine Penner who married a Honeycutt(her 1st husband). I did, however, find a Catherine Peninger who married Jacob Levi Honeycut. He died in the fall of 1862 of disease in the war. I found Christopher and Joicy (I do not know if her maiden name is Sides - that's what people say, but I have no proof of that) in 1860 Cabarrus, living with a Mathew Honeycut family. Mathew is listed as executor of Jacob Levi's estate in 1863. I think it is possible that Mathew is Jacob Levi's dad, and that ties Christopher to Catherine Peninger Honeycut (since he was living with Catherine's inlaws in 1860). In the 1870 census I was unable to find Catherine Honeycut, but I did find a C. Honeycut living next door to Christopher and Joicy Moose. Christopher and Catherine Honeycut were married in 1871. I did not find a cemetery record for Joicy in the Cabarrus Cemetery book, so I don't know when she died (although I guess they could have been divorced, but all the children went with Christopher since in 1880 census they are listed with him and Catherine - incorrectly indexed Moore).
Anyway, that's what I'm working on. I also found John Peninger who married Rachel Groner in 1827 in Cabarrus. I suppose they could have been Catherine's parents. In 1850 Catherine - 16- was living in Rowan with a Shank family. (next door to Nelson Sides, Christopher's uncle) This same Shank family moved to Cabarrus by 1870, and were living one house from c. Honeycut and 2 houses from Christopher Moose. I am wondering if Catherine Peninger's parents died or moved away, since I also found 2 other Peninger children living with other families in the 1850 census: John - 13(living with Joseph Misenheimer, and Christina - 18 (living with Joshua Phillips)

Daniel Webster married Dora Bailey and they had 6 children, and raised a neice - Ona- as their own, making 7 children. I see you are working on Moose and Sides lines. I would like to know how you tie into them. My husband is Christopher and Catherine's (through their son George) GG grandson.
Chris
Yes we due, I have found many mistakes and then 6 months
to a year later that same tree has been corrected when more
info surfaces. Their were so many marriages back in those
days and children with the same names its very hard to verify unless you have Church records or a family bible.
It took me 8 years to locate one of my Mom's sisters and
I found her by accident going thru off shoots and finally
found my way to her grandaughter. Then we both started searching and by sending off for soc sec appl thats how
we found her parents. I cannot get a birth certificate
for my Grandmother on my Mom's side because Okla did not
by law have to keep records until mid 1920 and if they
were not notified of a birth they have no record. On the
Tiner/Tyner side I ran into a lady online who was a DAR
Regent and she was able to give me lots of help. If you
google you might get lucky, their is a gentlemen who has
alot of info on the Troutman side of the family all the
way from Germany to the ship they arrived on to the town
of Phila and from their these families headed (most of them) to North Carolina.
Betty

My Husband is the Harkey and I'am doing his family tree.
What brought me to the Moose family is that my husbands
ancestor Pearlie G Harkey married John Noah Moose 24 Dec 1902 Cabarrus NC. Pearlie G was the daughter of John A Harkey and Martha ALice Dry, John A Harkey was the son of
David Monroe Harkey & Margaret Smith, David Monroe was
the son of David Harkey & Catherine Eudy, David Harkey was
the son of Martin Harkey & Catherine Barriner.
John Noah Moose was the son of Albert H Moose and Julia Corl. Albert H Moose was the son of Levi LawsonMoose &
Lovina Troutman. Levi Lawson was the son of Jacob Moose Jr
and Barbara Barnhart. You will find that the Mooses,Harkeys
Earnhardt,Barringers,Troutman's are all intertwined together. They all came out of Pa together.
Sides: I have Sides that are tied into my Mother's side of
the family (Tiner/Tyner) in Ms who married into the Mooney
family from North Carolina & Ms.

We only got to see her during the summers-we live in southern Indiana. But I wrote her weekly until she passed away in Dec 1980. My first child was born in Aug1980-but she didn't get to hold him but she saw photos.
Since grandma "allie linnie/Omma/Ona was listed as Daniel W Moose and Dora Bailey's niece, WHO WERE HER PARENTS?
These two books have helped alot(I even got our genealogy library-Willard Library, Evansville, IN to order them:
1. Heritage of Iredell County, NC. 1980 Buster Coite Moose(Onas brother).Family#436pp.414-416 I can send you copies of those 3 pages if you would like.
2.
My interest in genealogy began when I was about ten years old. I'm much older than that now. I don't know if your Moose family is connected with mine but I have information dating back to 1836 on my husband's family. They came from Belgium and went to Galveston, Texas. They were also in Illinois. Their name was originally Mous. There was Nicholas, born in Heinstert, Germany. He was the father of my husband's father. Nicholas' parents were John Michael Mous and Margaretha Krantz. Nicholas' wife was Catherine Shay (Irish). Nicholas and Catherine had my husband's father,Norman. Norman married Mildred Blauvelt and had my husband. He married once before me and had a daughter. Then he married me and had two sons. None of my husband's children had children. The story goes that my husband's father was tired of being called Moose so someone told him to add a de in front of it. So he did and now it's deMoose. If he could have seen the future he would have known that his grandsons were called Moose anyway. But they liked it. Especially after my older boy saw an actual moose. He was very impressed. However, if you have no connection to Galveston, none of this means anything to you anyway. Please let me know if anything fits in. My husband died a few years ago but he would now be 81 years old.

I am not sure if this is the same person that I have been researching but the spelling is close. Please e-mail me at smmoose20@yahoo.com . The person I am talking about is spelled Gall David Mussgenug but he married Barbara and then had Johann Nicolaus Mussgenug.

Bernice Durham Bowers - Winnie G. Moose - Phipps Foster Durham

I am trying to find information on Winnie Bernice (sp?) Durham b abt. 1920 probably Kerrville, Kerr Co., TX - married T.J. Bowers of Junction, TX. Her father was Phipps Foster Durham (my paternal great-uncle) and Winnie G. Moose. Her father, mother, and husband are buried in family plot in Kerrville, but there is no record for her. I would appreciate knowing where and when she died and where she is buried in order to complete family records. Thanks - Catherine
